Agree. I would say listen to Pizza Deliverance, Southern Rock Opera, Belssing and A Curse and then Dirty South in that order. Dirty South will leave you appreciating Jason Isbell and wanting more of him, imv. I still think there best work is with him. I don't mind Shonna leaving, there were one or two songs that I appreciated that she was vocals on, but meh on the rest. Pugatory Line and Where's Eddie were two that I can think of off the top of my head. Love Where's Eddie. Eddie Hinton was badass. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, FUCK!!!!! I have Xmas with my parents that night and I had planned the whole weekend around that show. When did they move it?
I have gotten to the point where I can appreciate Isbell's stuff and DBT's stuff as separate entities. Dirty South, Decoration Day and Blessing and a Curse were all great, and def some of my favorite albums but Isbell continues to play his DBT material, so it's not like they will never be heard live again. DBT and Isbell are going in separate directions, I feel Isbell gravitating more towards the indie-rock genre especially since he helped Middle Brother with their album in Nashville last year. He will always keep his roots, but his playing style is getting a lot more diverse than anything he could've gotten away with when he was in DBT. JMO. You need to get Xmas over with early on the 23rd Section8, show doesn't start til 10. Now here is that Middle Brother I was talking about. Super group featuring members of Deer Tick, Delta Spirit and Dawes. All of which are some great bands on their own, and also worth a listen if you've never heard of them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8zmPRN26Yc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4gVaiDQ8f4 this one is also on Dawes' newest record http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Lu7Mhff2wo
Some good videos from this weekend are starting to show up on youtube, all the cameras in the air were pissing me off at the time but I'm glad they were there now. It was one of the better shows that I've ever seen.
Both DBT and Isbell in American Songwriter's Top 10 Songs of the Year http://www.americansongwriter.com/2011/12/american-songwriters-top-50-songs-of-2011/5/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvJ-lWOZMYg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUedNbfQFSs
Another great song from their B-sides album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wNe7nwvU0A Solid Patterson Hood song from his solo album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGVv2a6XeGA
Was just listening to this when I saw I'd been quoted itt. Pretty cool. And I fully agree that Righteous Path is the best song on the album but I think it's tied with Ghost to Most
I love P Hood's solo stuff, but nothing will ever top Assassin IMO. Couldn't find him playing it but did find Isbell covering, which he does quite often: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nc3Bze9Tg4
So many good songs from that album; Cooley really shines, and I'm surprised he hasn't done his own album yet. DBT's albums are the only ones I still buy anymore, as it's just worth it for the art and the liner notes. Although this album was mostly garbage, this song definitely sets you right after a shit day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E69aS-zxXLA I didn't realize Clown Baby was so cool, but I do now.
Why thank you. Love aforementioned song but my favorite is Birthday Boy and Im also a big fan of Santa Fe
Agreed. Big fan of Santa Fe. Fourth Night of my Drinking is solid as well, definitely on their weaker records overall though
Oh without a doubt. I like it better than Go Go Boots though. Bright Than was the last album with a real Truckers feel throughout imo
Their more recent albums I was very upset with when they came out, but the more I listen to them the more I enjoy them. 4th night of my drinking just passed Sante Fe as my favorite song on that album
like Used to be a Cop, Pulaski, Assholes and I Do Believe off Go-Go Boots but it is the weakest effort to date
They should have taken the filler out of the last two albums, and just made one album instead. After Brighter than Creations Dark, those two albums were a huge letdown.
Completely agree with bill. They recorded them both at the same time too which is what's so puzzling. They could have easily made one very good album. And woodrow, Used to be a Cop is badass
agree, an album with a listing like this would've been much better, never really thought of that before 1. Fourth Night of My Drinking 2. Birthday Boy 3. This Fucking Job 4. After the Scene Dies 5. Santa Fe 6. Daddy Learned to Fly 7. I Do Believe 8. Everybody Needs Love 9. Assholes 10. Used to be a Cop 11. Pulaski 12. Where's Eddie thinking that since Shonna is gone and there is a break coming they will come back with a badass album full of Patterson and Cooley
actually meant to include it, my b. and fwiw you are the only truckers fan I know to describe Go-Go Boots as "awesome"
remember, I was a bit late to the party. y'all taught me everything I know about DBT with my country/red dirt background, Go Go Boots is awesome to me. I've had this album in my car since it came out
After the scene reminded me a lot of this track which I'm obsessed with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFmKf9j50Yw
If ya'll will indulge me a bit, I'd reccomend a couple of these bands for the DBT fan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMcD54kRD4g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDoNTq9CYsQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fM0lxFqQl3s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCmZErK2lC0
duvalbill I liked all of those, you know where I can dl any of this stuff? I searched all 4 bands and couldn't find much of anything
that is fucking great. was at that show at the EARL back in April, Isbell gave a shout out to DOB before he played "Decoration Day" Loved this, " I’m writing a lot these days, so I imagine another record isn’t too far off." Also psyched to hear he played on Todd Snider's new album, and that he is dating Amanda Shires. Fucking love Amanda Shires: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybBK0N0mCl4
Gonna try. It's going to be hard to pull off. Mom and Dad are pretty excited about seeing the grandson for a few hours. If they didn't live in Scottsboro and us live in Athens this would be easy to pull off.
DOB (the Braves writer for AJC) is a HUGE dbt fan. Big music fan in general, he talks about DBT, isbell, earle, tom waits, etc. on twitter all the time. and duvalbill throw some more recs in here please, you always got the good shit
you know where to download that other stuff you already posted? can't find it on demonoid or isohunt or anything
I looked around, and sorry to say I didn't find anything. sometimes mediafire has some albums uploaded too, but I didn't look there. I'm guessing you're not on what or waffles, right?
These guys are on tour with DBT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPrza6iiCWU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwF4lwP7__s&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvRW8APIsaQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGB0LvlJ0kc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wa7S8WT18k4&feature=related Hopefully, most everyone here has heard of these guys http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TALGmlQnDM
That Glossary song is great, never heard of them before. Also, I'll throw some DBT-based rec's out there if that's the mood we're in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaAjBpGf1J8&feature=related (Best version I could find, if yall havent heard of/listened to them, DO IT NOW) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pj6Q0xRW5bQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhurCm79DyY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bODrsgHU4g
