Saw Isbell last night. They are cruising right now as a band. So good. Closed with Atlantic City. Now he’s arguing with some writer for the Federalist who apparently found out he was a liberal last night at the show when he played white mans world
I’ve been following it and it’s a nice mix of frustrating and hilarious. She literally said we have equality now so there’s no need for a statement on white privilege.
Saw them last month a week after the album came out and it was great. New album is really good IMO and they put on a great show.
She must have been especially angry as American Aquarium spent a good 10 minutes railing against organized religion and right wingers haha
I know but you can name conservative musicians on maybe one hand if they aren’t mainstream country singers.
Man, I tell ya, I got a little nervous for BJ during that, even though I agreed and found it hilarious. You’re probably getting a liberal leaning crowd in Charlotte for a Isbell/AA bill, but “I found out that the only thing Southern Baptist’s hate more than gay people and abortions are questions, especially those based in fact” is spitting a lottt of hot fire.
If anything, I thought it got a little extra applause, etc. Lot of women in the crowd, seemed to connect with the “fire in my little girls eyes” line at the end.
We’re now learning that Jason Isbell is a millennial and art isn’t art if some weird federalist lady doesn’t agree with the message. Okay.
Mentioned in this: -New album is done, but they won't put it out until at least next summer. "We're too busy to put it out." -DBT ticket sales for the year are up 10% from this time last year.
Well they're playing Clearwater and St Augustine around the same time. just thinking about venues and which would be more fun
Hmmm. One thing that gives me pause is that both of those are seated venues. I prefer shows that have a GA pit.
But i thought they were losing fans because of their politics. Have a feeling this one is gonna be good.
I saw David Byrne at the Fox on Tuesday and I was a little worried the older crowd was going to be tamer. Thankfully they weren’t and we were right behind the sound guys so the three rows in front of us had to stand out of necessity so we did too. It’s just so much more engaging when you’re standing.
Couldn't agree more. I got chirped pretty hard for standing at St. Paul and Broken Bones at Fox last year. Also got shit for standing at Pearl Jam at Wrigley a month or 2 ago. Who the fuck sits down for a concert like Pearl Jam?
One of the reasons I love the Variety is that it affords the blue hairs the opportunity to sit like goons but the side sections allow for people to stand. The new bar in the back is great too.
It reminds me so much of college football games when you’re not in the student section. The boomer fucks just want to sit quietly and observe whereas I’m trying to stand and cheer as loudly as possible.
Saw Isbell up here in February. James McMurtry opened and everyone but me and my group sat through his entire set. I was livid as I fucking love McMurtry
Isbell said this years ago and it stuck with me. I’m paraphrasing but “Stay off your phone at concerts. You’re so damn busy trying to capture the moment that you’re removing yourself from it. Instead, get into the music with the people around you. You’ve at least got a shared love of the music in common. Who knows, you might even get laid out of it.”
Not Isbell or DBT related but Ryan Adams appears to be struggling big time based off his Twitter the past two days
