Saw Jason open for Dawes in 2013 or so in Memphis. He had a headlining show there get cancelled and hopped on to open to make up for it. Place was slammed, and over half the crowd left after Jason’s set. Hated it for Dawes that night.
Not Isbell or DBT, but do any of you guys like John Moreland? I've been listening to him on Youtube between Isbell, Tyler Childers and a few others suggestions. Although the algorithm sucks ass on suggesting/autoplaying different things these days.
Just bought this shirt that was supposed to be a Reunions tour exclusive (site won't let me steak the image to post here) https://stores.portmerch.com/jasonisbell/new-stuff/ringside-tee.html Bought another shirt and thought about buy a vinyl even thought I don't own a record player.
Never heard of these guys but kind of blown away by that song and video. Got them on Spotify now. Thanks for posting.
Moreland is great. Really sad though. Still need to dig into his new album. Big Bad Luv is a little less purely sad than his earlier stuff, which is nice in some ways, but I’m still probably a bigger fan of Inthe Throes and High in Tulsa Heat. Saw him open (or maybe it was a split headline and Moreland just went out first) for Deer Tick a couple years ago and was really impressed by his band and live show. Didn’t expect it but I think I enjoyed his show more than Deer Tick.
His new album is much less depressing. He got married and said in multiple interviews he was tired of making overtly sad songs. his older stuff is enough to make you cry if you’re a couple drinks in lol
The new Delta Spirit song is pretty good. Great solo. Only wish I could make out the vocals better but MLV does what he wants.
I saw Stapleton once right after Traveller came out. It was good, not great. Haven’t had an urge to see him again since.
Rewatching the show the Brooklyn Bowl for Reunions. This is a damn good album in case some people forgot. Dreamsicle is a fantastic song and might be up there with Overseas for me.
Dreamsicle's lyrics have story lines you can relate to despite not fitting the lyrics. I never moved as a kid, but the opening story applies to me in a later stage after college or living in a city for a while and moving away. You have good friends when you are there, but then you move away that you lose that connection and never hear from them again. I guess it's Isbell's storytelling and lyrics in general that allows people to connect in different ways is what I was getting at.
The definition of antebellum is before the war. Calls to mind the glorification of the pre-war south which is a big problem considering 2020 race relations. Even if they originally meant nothing by it.
Ah missed your quoted link my bad. Think the drive-by portion was something related to rap music and I think he may be thinking he coopted it. That or it’s potential implied connection to Rodney King, Reginald Denny, and the LA Race Riots that he references. Think he’s more concerned than he needs to be.
Honestly the band name kept me away for a few years in the early 2000s. I assumed they were just some dumb idiot country band singing about actually trucks.
Dowloaded it, pretty solid. Dress blues is so damn sad, but such a great song. Would love to catch it live, but feel like it’s pretty rare these days
This song is so excellent btw. If it weren’t for Feed the Fire being an absolute banger, it would surpass everything from Passwords
