I watched IGNs review and it was pretty rough on it. Not saying anyone should ever pay attention to an IGN review
It seems most of the negative reviews are upset at the cut-off between movies, at the dense language, towards the hero's journey mentality, and at the narrative of the film - if you haven't read the source material, you won't enjoy it. Hard not to distrust reviewers like David Ehrlich, and even what he said in his review are things that won't bother me. The bad reviews aren't even that bad. Empire's review calls it exactly what Dune fans have been waiting for. And one of the harshest reviews, from IndieWire, is the first that pops up when you look for reviews.
You mean to tell me that a borderline 3hr remake of a cult sci fi would not be widely appreciated? Spoiler This is the essentially a direct tweet re Blade Runner 2049, but works here as well. Lynches Dune AFAIK, also had the baggage of box office failure.
Bomb is a bit of a hard word to nail down, so I wont say you are wrong or disagree with you, but BR earned back its production budget, Dune did not.* *At least with box office receipts
Nah I agree, I felt dirty after typing “bomb” because BR is a film I absolutely love. But I thought it didn’t make a profit but did better off a VHS, rentals and TV broadcast.
Original Blade Runner Final Cut is one of my favorite five movies but honestly I liked 2049 even more. Villeneuve had a perfect blend of the previous world and the one in the future. The original one was just marketed incorrectly for it to not have any success at the box office. They just fit in so well as a coherent story. Lynch was a horrible choice for the original Dune with horrible casting decisions (and I love most of his works) so I see little chance that this doesn’t completely obliterate the first one especially since this lends itself to so much better special effects and a top notch cast.
Dune aficionado since I was a teen, when the fucking book was written. And big fan of the weirdness of David Lynch. But that combination did not work. At all. To this day, I cannot watch that movie without belly laughing at the attack on the Emperor at the end with Paul and Chani firing the "weirding weapons" sounding like kids playing cowboys, going "pshew, pshew". Just a silly movie. Sting is the best thing in it, and that says all you have to say.
Lots of cool shit in this: Kynes anticipating the spice blow Also Duncan Momoa looking rad af just slaughtering sardauker in a sandstorm
Yeah, it was bad. And it got progressively worse the further along it went, so much so that I fell asleep a couple times and it took 3 attempts to finish it. On double speed.
Someone that went to the trouble of buying a movie like Dune on DVD and wanted the pain to end asap. Sorry if that confuses or upsets you.
I know it’s a shitty movie, but watching anything at double speed eliminates nuance and timing that is important to how the story is trying to be told

Advance tickets for Dune are now on sale this morning (for Regal and AMC theaters at least; first showings are on night of Thursday, 10/21).
i completely understand the spirit and I applaud you for it, i am not even criticizing the rules. i am just not going to the movies if I have to wear a mask.
I’m not a Dune head so here’s that side of a review Spoiler Obviously a beautiful movie. Story is kinda dense and the first hour I felt like I was trying to play catch-up. About half way through I wasn’t really sure where it was building to. When it ended I didn’t realize that this was only part one. Apparently I missed that title card so that would’ve helped. I think if you like/love Villineuve’s interpretation of BR2049 then you will love this. I’m eh on BR2049 but thought this was better
