Loved Travis Fimmel as Ragnar in Vikings. Main chick I've only seen in Chernobyl and she was great. Woman that played Queen Calanthe in Witcher was good in that. Definitely looking forward to this show. And it starts the same week as Silo S2
Probably steer clear of the Great Schools of Dune trilogy. Original Butlerian Jihad trilogy should be safe, since it sets up the environment for the next ten thousand years. Many years after Frank Herbert's death his son Brian supposedly discovered his father's notes on the larger world and history, and he and Kevin J Anderson collaborated on writing over a dozen books fleshing it all out. Neither is the writer that Frank was.
Yea like the episode was cool visually and the acting seemed pretty good but I have no idea what kind of plot we're working with other than the Bene's getting the future queen in their school. And I guess Ragnar got eaten by a worm and gained super powers?
I thought ep. 1 was okay. I'm not huge on world building through voiceover instead of through dialogue between characters or interactions in the world. Seems like it's set up for an interesting season, though. Someone mentioned Silo, and I think episode one of season 2 did a much better job at filling in a backstory and world building through environment exploration.
That doesn't change anything about what I'm saying, though. They were able to set up and give a bunch of clues about the current situation and what happened there in the past without having to rely on voiceovers. Only a brief flashback at the beginning and the rest is just good environmental storytelling.
Noticed something that caught my eye but not sure if it is a spoiler. Will put in spoilers but it comes from the movies Spoiler The royal home planet is the future home of the Sardaukar. Curious if they will show how we get there.
Spoiler I think the particulars of House Corrino’s relocation from Selusa Secundus to Kaitan is found in the book Dune: The Butlerian Jihad. This happens between 2,000-3,000 years after the timeline of Season 1. It became the Emperor’s Sardaukar training world sometime after the move. But, it won’t surprise me if the show runners still might have found a way to mix it in.
Those written by the son aren’t great literature, but they are readable. They serve to reasonably fill in the gaps and create details of a history. Some fans consider them as canon, others don’t.
Solid episode of TV. I’m a 40yo male who likes titties, but the sex and drug scenes in this show are fucking terrible and not as cool or edgy as I feel like the writers want them to be.
Going to give her a bit more screen time before making a final decision but up to this point the Princess has been pretty trash acting.
I unfortunately hate the actor who plays Desmond Hart so that is making this thing difficult. I love the books ive read and the two DV movies. Need this to pick up
I'm liking the show so far, other than Fimmel. Like Fargin' said, the production quality is way lower for the show but I expected that going in
Vikings is pretty badass and he’s really good in it. I got the same vibe of him playing the smirking Ragnar.
I haven't ever watched an interview to see if he talks like ragnar IRL but I've just assumed he did. this is absolutely the same role in space. Just substitute "farmer" for "soldier" and "Our people" for "the imperium" when he talks
The illegal computer they’re using to eventually genetically create Paul Atreides through selective breeding
He’s Australian. He almost sounds like Brad Pitt’s character from Snatch when he’s just talking regular.
Kinda cool things are happening but I still don’t even know what anyone’s trying to accomplish on any side of the storylines.
