No talent currently attached, but HBO is moving forward with a Dunk and Egg series. https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/game-of-thrones-tales-of-dunk-and-egg-series-hbo-1234889520/
If they do this right it could be amazing, like really really good. I think this is some of GRRM's best writing, I was very sad when it ended. Felt way too short. I wonder if they would take the series all the way thru the Tragedy of Summerhall, if the established material went well. They could definitely end it that way, with some type of look into the future.
Doing Dunk and Egg is so dumb. It will run into the same issues GOT had. They're gonna run out of source material after 1 season, 2 at most. GRRM said it's supposed to be 9ish novellas. He's written 3 of them
I would argue that the problem with GOT wasn't simply running out of source material. it was a complete lack of ability by the people doing the show to continue the story. if you get the right people involved, they can use the first three books as a launchpad to tell their own story. I can see if you say only GRRM should be telling stories in this world, but he can't finish one either.
His most recent blog post is really a sight to behold. Mother fucker is out here signing off on another TV adaptation of a book series he hasn't finished but is very confident he will finish it before the series catches up to the books. I mean you can't even fake that level of irony.
I mean HBO has probably paid him 9 figures at this point. Why on earth would he ever write another book
Will this have Sir Duncan the Tall? I haven’t read all the books so I wasn’t sure. If not I just saw where HBO has ordered a prequel for this also.
these stories are so good, I hope they nail this. just thinking of the Trial of Seven and how cool of an episode it can be.
My concern is theyre gonna get past the source material pretty damn fast. Then we're having the same issues GOT did
feels like 3 seasons, 6 eps each would be a great place to start. after that, it could be a concern but that would take probably 5 years.
It's been so long since I've read these, but I had in my head that there was only a season's worth of content. Guess I need to revisit.
Would like to eventually see a spinoff not centered on the Targaryens but I'll take what they give me.
Give me these as a spinoff shows - Aegon’s Conquest (this was confirmed as happening right?) - The Doom of Valyria - The Reyne/Tarbeck Rebellion - Maegor’s reign - Blackfyre Rebellion
I'm salty they did away with those sweet ass direwolves and replaced them with dragons. But wrt to this particular show, I'm very curious about the audience reaction. Spoiler: In case anyone hasn't read it the vibes are so different than both GOT and HOD. Almost fairytale-like in terms of how things go for D&E. I'm sure I'll love it but can forsee a lot of haters
I'd love to see something from the Age of Heroes and/or Azor Ahai. The creation of myths has always been fascinating to me.
I just finished the History of Westeros video series on the Blackfyre Rebellions. I’d love to see that as a TV series. They could even do an anthology and have each season be a different attempt. Then have the build up to and then the actual War of the Ninepenny Kings.
Aziz is in every video. He’s the main host. Ashaya is in a few. And then they have guests on some of the others. Two History PhDs that dedicate their free time to ASOIAF history.
I was hoping it was something different. Found that when I googled and was shocked by the length of it. Doubt I'll be able to commit to watching all that.
