How the fuck does Zelda cost $110? How does anything cost more than $69.99 besides the pre-ordering edition bullshit.
Oh they are makig tons of money. I just think it's still a good value for what you get. At least it for me bc I get a lot of use out of it.
Not sure, the tab on the main screen is MyCareer, not sure if it ever says MyPlayer. It's by far the most popular mode in the game so his post seemed odd.
Not true. There's a small number of us that rarely ever play video games...but when we do we want to just jump on a game with a predictable computer AI and dick around. It's a small market, but hey we're out here.
I prefer to play Madden online head-to-head, and NCAA offline dynasty. I don't think that will change when the new NCAA game comes out.
What you're inadvertently stanning for here is the corporations raking money off the transactions and not passing it to their developers or putting the money back into the game. And you can cut out the straw man of "but smaller developers" because most smaller developers don't create games that live on this. The EAs and 2Ks of the world are the primary beneficiaries of the bullshit you're backing. A new Zelda doesn't get made every year because it's not just reskinning the same game for 4 months followed by a 6 month cycle of player cards and shoes. It's thousands of hours of planning, developing, and testing(before the game goes to market - novel idea) You're welcome to look up the turnover ratio at the companies and see why they don't keep long-term, experienced, developers. It's not because cutting edge, new devs on these projects - it's because the pay is shit and the work is fairly easy. You can continue to pour your money into whatever you choose...so long as you're willing to admit that supporting this business model is a giant reason such a huge lack of fundamental gameplay is underdeveloped. Too often you're paying for a buggy product at release and paying to be their testers for the first few months because their development cycle is too short to do so themselves ahead of time.
I don't think it's that small tbh. Revenue wise, maybe since there isn't added revenue from micro transactions but I object to the notion that the offline market is small.
if we're discussing specifically sports games i think its necessary to point out that sports gameplay was kind of perfected decades ago and that's a large part of why we keep getting the same game year after year. there's really not too much new and interesting shit you can do with that. of course, ea decided to force theirs into and engine that's not built for it which has technically made a lot of interesting/hilarious/frustrating issues pop up. but 2k and the show are the same game each year and its always pretty good. but as always we come back to the disconnect between gamers and sports gamers. sports gamers are normal people who don't spend their nights dreaming of working on the next madden. additionally, a lot of dev companies pay shit and have awful work environments but they still put out good games. so i think, ultimately, the problem is there's really just nowhere to go with sports games.
and every time they try new things, it's just cast aside as a gimmick and im sure (when they look at the back end numbers) aren't played nearly as much as just the tried and true "play a season" or "play multiple seasons" modes. EA/2K can't change the rules of the sports. That said, the core stuff needs to work better. but I'm not sure what people are complaining about when they say "its the same game"....like no shit. It's a new football season.
I don't disagree with you but that's literally every product and company these days. Companies make billions while employees get shit. As for just reskinning, I don't disagree, but hell Nike has been making Air Max 1 since 1987 and I still buy the shit out of them. If it's good, it's good.
Agreed, it's kinda hard to reinvent the wheel in sports games. Small incremental changes year to year but it's not going to be massive changes from year to year unless they create a new engine.
I feel like the new Madden is a little different for the better. You basically can’t scramble wild with the QB anymore
I get the hate for EA, 2K, Sony. However, 2K is constantly tweaking their franchise mode and it’s by far the deepest there is. Sony and EA do not even care about Franchise mode. It’s nothing but ultimate team and Diamond dynasty and for that, I can’t stand them.
The Show put out a huge franchise update like 2 years ago and all it did was streamline everything and make it playable for the casuals. I am irate.
MVP baseball back in the day had the GOAT franchise mode. You set prices for literally everything. You could sell your stadiums naming rights and advertising. Not to mention build a whole new one. On top of that you had to worry about team chemistry and all that goes with it. So much fun
Because they don’t give a fuck about gameplay, people are going to buy it regardless. They do the bare minimum every year.
I'm nowhere near detail oriented to handle shit like that. I play the hell out of OOTP Baseball, but I have to handicap it to take care of some of the shit for me or else I'd be pinpointing the price of pretzels on Tuesday night games while I allow some ding dong like Chris Getz starting at 2B.
saw an infographic on Twitter last night re 2K23, average cost to max out your build if you don't want to spend the time developing naturally is 100 bucks. I'll be kinda ok with that if my AI teammates didn't inexplicably run out of bounds for no reason and they actually put their arms up to contest a shot every now and then.
Yea it has gone up more than I realized. It seems like it varies by build, but most are $90-100. Turn up the difficulty to Hall of Fame for better defense.
Am i the minority here? All my friend and I wanna do is have a deep co-op franchise mode with some solid gameplay.
I only play franchise modes. Building teams, playing full seasons, seeing whole careers is the only selling point for me.
Can you guys plz stop posting in this thread unless it is with updates with how awesome the game is going to be? Jesus Christ.
I play career mode, because I like playing the NBA games despite the fact the story is usually lame. Every now and then I'll venture to the park or the REC, shoot 1 to3 times because my teammates would rather play 1 or 2 on 5 and then get called trash by a teammate who shot 7 for 27 because I missed a shot.
The idea of playing the computer a million times makes my skin crawl. I have zero desire to do that. Playing against a human is all I care to do. If you like it though, that's cool.
Yeah, and I have no desire to play other people, most of which cheese the hell out of the game or use broken mechanics to their advantage. Most people don't play anywhere near a real simulation style.
I have zero interest in sports games against real people other than Rocket League Edit: Real strangers I should say. Games against friends is a'ight
I mean, it's a video game. Expecting people to play sim is kinda dumb. Last year was awful for a few months with left/right cheese. This year is really good so far. Hopefully they don't fuck it up. But again, play what you like. But being shocked someone plays the vastly most popular game mode on the game is weird.
same, mostly. it's a super toxic community tbh and i don't enjoy it enough to deal with that. i would love more games about sports that arent "real" sports
I like to play couch coop with my brother in franchise whenever I can in 2k and it’s always fun. I used to play with a few friends every year in my player, but they made it way too grindy to actually be good. That’s without me even mentioning how long it took to get all the badges every year. Now I just play other games
See, and that's why I don't play user vs user. I play sports games to get as close to a simulation experience as possible. Last time I played a league with actual people we had rules in place so everyone played sim style.
What would sim style in a basketball game be? Can't shoot from too deep? Can't posterize someone? Can't iso? I get in football saying you can't go for every 4th down but not sure what you'd even do in basketball.
its not even the toxicity. I just don't want to deal with how people play online. I like to play games as I would in real life basically and not "how to win the video game". Just more fun for me. I also like skipping around a bit (maybe skip a very defensive possessions) just to keep things moving. Loved MVP Baseball jumping into the middle of games.
I'm the complete opposite. I like the competitiveness of it, trying to beat someone else. I rarely go into game chat to avoid the toxic trash talk side of it. I like the back and forth in game adjustments that my teammates and I have to do to stop certain things. We do a lot of rotating on defense, play sides on a pick and roll, etc. You just don't get that against the cpu. Different folks, different strokes.
There’s always gonna be go to moves, or plays that are OP. I can’t remember which NBA it was, years ago, but my friend could do a finger roll layup and never miss. No matter what the layup rating was, or inside shot was, it was guaranteed in, every time. Madden has gotten better by limiting consecutive play calls and such, but that game is pure shit.
