It was a “sweetheart” in the sense that the partnership with FIFA made it possible to have all the different leagues and national teams in a single game and for the first 20 years or so, they were paying an incredibly small sum of money for the privilege. Of course FIFA thought they should gobble up more money despite not really doing anything and that’s why they broke up. When EA made the original deal with FIFA, they were accustomed to obstacles like not being allowed to have Michael Jordan in their basketball game. Thankfully nobody in America cared about soccer at the time or else each league would have their own shitty game.
I think we all have our different wants from the game based on how we play the game. If you like building a team and playing the computer for 40 seasons, awesome. I assume you don't care much how they do the online aspects of the game. I don't think you're a bad person or ruining what I want from the game. You care about what affects you. I'm no different. I don't enjoy playing the cpu. I love The Show but I despise how there's some offline grind built into building a team to play online. I'll pay someone to do that shit for me. It doesn't interest me at all. I have maybe 6-8 hours a week to play games these days and I'd prefer to do what I enjoy during those hours. I also love being able to build a diverse team of new and old players that I like so every game isn't the same 3-4 teams matching up. Make those players able to be unlocked via a grind or just bought if you want to skip that piece of it. Yes, I understand the studios will cater to me bc I spend more on the game but that's not my fault.
Technically it's not your fault, but it's the online community that's responsible for why we don't get a better product. There's no reason to make large improvements to the game when there's a dedicated base of players who'll throw money at card modes every year.
My biggest beef with ultimate team game modes is they’re so fucking difficult to understand unless I have a friend of mine hold my hand through the entire process I’m playing The Show right now and there is a ridiculous amount of content to digest.
I think that's per game. MLB The Show was very easy to learn. I didn't venture into that mode until 2020 and honestly I learned most of it from TMB. Agree on The Show content. It's honestly too much. You'd have to play 40 hours a week to keep up with all of it.
that's all fine, but when the gameplay is the same glitchy mess year after year don't be surprised and know you're part of the reason.
it's also worth noting as you keep making all these comparison to The Show, that The Show is not made by EA Sports.
No, the studio is responsible for it. Don't blame the people that are just playing the game bc they play it differently than you. It's the game maker's fault, period.
Can't the same be said for every person that buys the game yearly? It's just lame to blame anyone but the game maker.
My issue is the screens aren’t straightforward. It seems like I’m always one click away from it making sense and that’s when my friend helps me out. Too much damn clicking. For the collection sets, why do I have to collect 260 cards in a month and on top of that, actually go click on the card and submit it. Oh yeah and there’s no filtering for the cards you actually have.
The show and nhl have done fine with the perk system. EA let it completely ruin madden to the point where it's unplayable. Get that shit out.
Going to be great when this comes out for the first time in 10 years and the LBers still bat every pass down.
Yea it's confusing at first. Are you on xbox or ps? I think I could show it all to you in 5 minutes and it'd all makes sense. It's definitely a lot to begin with. Like to see what cards you have, you go to DD/collect?/collections/set 1 to see all of the set 1 cards. If oyu have them, they'll be lit up. If you don't, they'll be black and white.
Sorry, shit is just lame. People that play offline blame the online guys for the game maker catering to them. Just blame the game maker. They can do both, they just choose not to. We all know why, but it's still their fault.
But what if I like using those players and don't have or don't desire to pay 40 hours a week to unlock them? I shouldn't buy them bc... ? To take a stand against the game maker so they make your game mode better? Yea ok lol. Sorry you don't want to spend money on it. Not my fault. If I want to spend $1k on a game I play for 300 hours, who fucking cares? That's good value to me. What else can entertain me for 300 hours a year for $1k? That's dumb to you? Cool. I don't care. Argue for your game mode without blaming me bc it's not my fault. Blame the game maker. They can make both sides good.
I’m on PS5 but yeah I get that part now. It was the submitting them or whatever it’s called that I didn’t get. Like I said, it’s always the extra click that’s not straightforward to me
Between The Show and 2k? Yea probably so. I don't mind it at all. I enjoy them. Stop pocket watching imo. I'm sure you spend money on stuff I'd consider dumb but I really don't care how you spend your money.
Ahh yea. You can auto select all at one time but I wouldn't suggest that bc there may be some you don't want to collect. Going through each one sucks but then you just press start/collect.
I’m with dbl on this one, I burned $100 over like 4 hours at the casino the other night and thought it was great value, 1k over a year feels reasonable.
except you had the opportunity to turn that $100 into way more. Video games are like amusement parks. You pay for entry and then you get teased with upgrades and bonus as you enjoy the free entertainment. Some people can go to the amusement park and not play the games or upgrade to fast pass and enjoy it. But the park doesn’t stop upgrading the free rides so they can add more ring toss games. EA ignores the rides allows them to break down so they can add more ring toss centers.
lol if you think I'm ashamed to admit what I spend. It's probably closer to $1500. Not sure why anyone cares. Several people itt do things I find weird af but I don't care bc it's not my time/money being spent on it.
welcome to TMB where people are mocked for stupid shit every day for the last decade. I’m sure you’ve never participated in such things in this board.
Some of y'all watch fucking wrestling and have the audacity to judge someone else for how they spend their time/money. Foh with that bullshit.
So I should enjoy myself LESS so you can enjoy yourself more bc you're unwilling to spend more money. You don't see how fucking weird that is?
both parties can be right. those who spend on these types of microtransactions are the reason studios keep putting them into games and it's absurd to suggest otherwise. 30% of ea's total earnings across all games come from ultimate team, and that's a number that's a few years old at this point. we have free to play games making literal billions. also spend your money on what you but you are part of the problem.
my comment has nothing to do with “value” and refers solely to his complete lack of understanding on how his “spend $1000 to play my way” and how it not only does impact on the rest of the game but does so in a tremendously negative way as we’ve seen with Madden, FIFA, 2K etc etc
yea, I mean you can spend your money on whatever you want, but how can you not connect the dots on the problem with microtransactions when you're spending 20+ times the original cost of the game on them.
i will give ea this: their systems could be worse. i've played gachas for a good while and more than once i've started a new game and encountered people spending 100k+ within the first week. then you know, continue to spend tens of thousands each patch until they get tired of it and go repeat the process on an even newer game.
You can do as you please. But stop trying to play victim when people who don’t enjoy that people like you allow the game makers to ignore the content they enjoy.
This is really dub logic. For instance, I think comic book movies are dumb as dirt. I don't blame the people that go see them for being the reason there's few non-comic book big movies these days. That's on the movie studios. They can do those movies and still make other good shit too.
these corporations only care about making money. the only way to make them change their behavior is to affect how much money they make.
what would you say if people willingly spent $1000 to enjoy the movie "their way" which in turn led studios to abandon other projects in favor of catering to these people?
That's what has happened. Studios have abandoned other shit to cater to the comic book crowd. It sucks, but I sure as shit don't blame the comic book fans. They are just consuming and paying for what they like.
what crusade? you're the one spinning your logic in a way that expects an outcome from a corporation that isn't only to maximize their profits.
