Elden Ring

A ton of the best/most popular RPGs don’t have a jump button.

 

I mean you can jump in the game just not by pressing a single button.

 

100% elden ring, dark souls, and dark souls 3 now. got distracted during bloodborne old hunters dlc and am just now getting back to it after a couple years -- on final boss of main game but haven't beaten yet, and quit at laurence and the army of aliens boss in dlc.

maybe i just need to play a ton more and get back into the feel and mechanics of the game, but i'm pretty sure i've never faced a harder from soft boss than laurence at this point. and given the finite amount of insight i have it's only going to get harder without that dude of the confederacy summoned. i've watched tip videos, etc. but can't seem to get him down past a 1/4 health. pro tips or anyone still have it installed and wanna assist sometime?

i don't care about gitting gud, i will summon if necessary to not end up quitting the game again.

 

I finally "beat" the game today. Did the whole Gerhman thing and then did the fight after reloading old save, but now setup for secret actual ending and did my first chalice dungeon for farming. Think ill start back into dlc where I left off to hopefully better handle it at higher level.

 

Finally doing work. Beat Laurence last night. Think main issue was being under leveled for my skill. Went up in strength and vitality by 10 each, changed runes, got my whirly up to +10 and was good. Took down some chalice stuff, lady Maria, etc without much trouble. Got Orphan of Kosby to half on first try before ending my session. Gonna try to finalize and platinum the game tonight.

 

Decided to give DS1 Remastered a go since I love Elden Ring and these games are great for hopping on for a quick hour during lunch while WFH.

big fan of the parry system and don’t remember it being anywhere near as viable in ER. Aced the first black knight without a scratch (or any elite BK drops )

did grab the master key as the gift and following my older brothers beginner early-game YouTube walk thru. Basically just gives you a few suicide run items to help the early game not be as much of a headache. But he’s… actually a pretty good narrator in the process with a lot of helpful gameplay tips so that was cool.

What we’re y’all’s favorite (read: most fun and least redundant feeling) weapons/builds for that game? Brother insists that quality build + claymore or Zwei and be a parry champion for life is the best suggestion for a first time playthrough. But I’m open to other ideas and only a level 18 and just shot off a dragon tail and went underneath him to unlock my next area so I’m very very early and can plan accordingly for a different type build.

I thoroughly enjoyed both a hybrid ninja/magic build (1st play thru) and OP Bleed build (NG+) in Elden. I could see the parry > riposte cycle getting old after ~75 hours of doing so with the quality/strength build

for real finding out GoW:Ragnarok and Bloodborne were both PS exclusives in the past week made me upset that I sold my PS4 and has me considering a PS5 for my living room

 

how abundant are weapon upgrade materials in the game? I remember in ER if you leveled up one weapon using a type of stones used up the bulk of that type that you get without serious farming. I'm assuming there's still two types of materials for regular and magic weapons. How many can you realistically level up to feasible +'s without owning a plow

 

i was a zweihander one handed guy.

honestly don't recall upgrading gear at all in dark souls -- didn't know you could i think? been a while. i usually upgrade an early game weapon up until it requires something better than large titanite, saving chunks and slabs for the item i'm going to use into the endgame.

 

Grab the scythe from the catacombs for ez mode. I can’t even remember what I used for my first play through but my favorite type of build for melee Souls games is some sort of high strength bonk hammer. Zero handed is great because it’s effective and you can get it very early. I also love all the Black Knight weapons.

 

Platinumed bloodborne today. Debating demons souls or sekiro next.

Been awhile since I’ve played anything other than FIFA. But I‘ve hit my stride the last few times I’ve played.

 

i clicked link originally and it played some reel of two dudes peeing in a gasoline tank so i was quite confused...worked when i clicked this time with elden ring reel. weird.

 

Picked this up randomly for the first time since June to dick around in the NG+3 save I never finished

I am so washed at this game now idk if I can pick it up again when DLC releases

 

Started playing this game again because I got too pissed before I finished it. Only bad thing about it is the fucking bosses are damage sponges. They weren’t like that in the Souls games

 

Ended up doing this instead and put DS1 on hold. Trying it without the torrance speed-run to collect upgrades prior to actually “starting” and not farming runes this time around.

also playing “blind” even though i roughly remember most of the game, this time through not pulling up Fextra on my pc next to me while I’m playing

 

Just started another play through and I’m hooked again. Been staying up way too late. This shit is like drugs.

Anyone know of any good resources to help me pick my next build?

 

I fired up my new game plus reduvia bleed build where I had only beaten Godrick. Took me awhile but I’ve gotten back into the flow of combat and I’m feeling good. I have like 25 dragon hearts 100% my next new game plus build is going to be dragon incantation based

 

I started a recent one as a faith build with black flame monk spells and greatsword. Then I swapped to bleed build with Reduvia, now I’m finishing with the dark moon greatsword. All were fun. Gonna do NG+ as pure pyro.

 

I did that build on my NG+ that I believe is at fire giant mountain last I played.

dueling Reduvias for general fighting and for bosses switch to Godskin peeler and twin blades both with seppuku.

with the bleed booster mask and all the right talismans that build is really fun. Almost too OP if you jump attack spam bosses so I try to fight “realistic”. Can look pretty sick with the right armor to go with that faceless mask

since I farmed larval tears before I started NG+ I may try out a new build. Some of them I’ve tried like the Raiden lightening god build and… sorry to say it dragon spell build were very meh. One that looked pretty dope was the god killer assassin using all the black Godskin killer incantations and the black knife as primary. Idk it looked fun on YT

 

I started a new playthrough for the first time in a few months the other day. Thought I'd gotten pretty good at Malenia, nope. Waterfowl Dance is some bullshit still.

 

840k runes for killing Mohg in NG+ is wild

 

I farmed 3 mil runes in about 30 minutes the other day before I went to ng+. Loaded up on somber stones. I used to enjoy putting a summon sign down outside of Mohg and rail on him with a shackle. Lots of of runes that way too.

 

About fucking time but the source is David Jaffe who tends to talk out his ass

 

Yeah I wouldn't take this as gospel. Jaffe is hitting well below the Mendoza line on stuff like this.

 

So I finally took the plunge on Elden Ring a few weeks back, I had bounced off Bloodborne several times (loved the atmosphere and idea, got frustrated but admittedly was likely not playing it correctly) so I wasn't sure to expect but now I'm 30+ hours in now and absolutely love it. The exploration, combat, sense of discovery, it's all exceptional.
Been exploring Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula all this time, finally getting ready to head into Stormveil Castle.
Looking forward to getting destroyed by Margit a few (hundred) times

 

Lies of P is out and supposedly it's pretty good.

I think the biggest credit to how good/groundbreaking souls games are- is that there's many studios extremely blatantly ripping off FromSoft's formula and basically no one cares or gives them crap for it. It's just like "Well, of course others would try to copy their games."

Hello yes I've currently 0/30 on fighting Father Gascoigne if anyone owns bloodbourne and wants to answer a summon bell to help me fucking kill this guy so I can play again lmk I work from home and can do it anytime during the day

 

the "parry" timing in the game just feels like the timing window is different from all the other games. DS1 Remastered I'm like > 90% success rate on parries. Read that the black knight you face in the first castle is supposed to be a hard test of parrying. Easiest shit ever. Sekeiro also not tough to block. But fuck the little pistol parry is ridiculous

FWIW I typically get him to his 2nd phase but by then I'm pretty much out of heals and silver bullets and I refuse to cheese the guy by taking him up the stairwell or whatever. One thing I refuse to do in Fromsoft games.

 

Playing DS:R again. Doing everything in the order it was intended without skipping ahead to become OP early and playing as a Cleric by only using basic miracles and a mace. It’s really hard for me to choose between DS:R and Elden Ring as best game ever (to me). Ornstein and Smough were a little rough with an unmaxed mace and mid rolls.
