If that range is accurate that's a game changer and would be VERY impressive at that price point.
Sandy Munro mentioned in his F150 reaction that one of his people (who I assume is an engineer) has a personal Rivian truck on order. I think that they’ll have a good product at launch. My unknowns are software/support and what happens if they eventually go belly up or get sold to who knows which company? Plus their offering doesn’t seem much longer, more rugged, or more luxurious than other options that we see coming from more proven manufacturers in the same price range.
Re: range - Ford did the same with Mach-e. Personally I haven’t gotten more than 15-20 over advertised range. There are reports of the 270 models going 300+ all over. Plus they have a massive buffer of 12% left to be unlocked hopefully at some point. I imagine the truck is working with the same initial buffer.
Yep, you nailed my Rivian concerns. And you're right, it's not some super tech or anything. I just like that it actually looks like a real SUV imo.
That’s the plan.
my home was very literally over appraised, what an attempt tho bravo
So in your opinion, your home was over appraised. You appealed to get it lower so you would pay less. If you could afford the higher taxes, why not leave it? Because you didn’t want to pay more in taxes. It’s not complicated. Nothing wrong with doing that and nothing wrong with wanting an overpriced car at a more reasonable price.
I appealed to get it lower so I'd pay the accurate amount dingus, you want a handout to buy your luxury vehicle under value.
good article about property taxes though for people in the cheap seats
CF turning into the “you criticize capitalism yet you have an iPhone” guy
People are weird about others buying expensive things.
Sort of but like, I don't begrudge anyone for buy shit they can afford. That's tight. Good for them. But don't bitch about not getting a government subsidy doing it
But pragmatically, the truck market is the largest vehicle market in the United States. You want to cover as many people as possible with your legislation? People that might otherwise be resistant to electric vehicle technology? Incentivize electric full sized truck purchases with your limits.
I don't think anyone is doing that. Honestly, incentive or not, I probably won't buy an EV this round. The only one I'd consider is the Rivian and I find it risky to buy the first car from a manufacturer. I'd rather let them get it right after a couple years. So this really doesn't affect me. I just find it weird when someone says they want to incentive some people to go EV but not others based on how much they are spending.
If the goal is to bring the cost of the EV down to make them more affordable for middle to lower income, great.
If the goal is to get manufacturers to make more reasonably priced EV, great.
If the goal is to get more people to choose EV bc it's better for us moving forward, it's dumb to have a cap.
Some people itt have made good arguments that make sense. The "You make enough and can afford it so fuck you for asking for a handout!" crowd is dumb though.
I can't afford a 90k car either but I'm not not interested in the government paying for me to drive one
What are we doing here, fellas?
That video breakdown of the Lightning is super impressive. Damn.
It really is. Obviously the range part was cool but even the stuff they did up front in the space where an engine would normally go. Just well thought out use of the space. Ford really nailed that truck.
That front trunk would be amazing. Having a truck now, the one ass pain is if you have kids in the back seat you have to put luggage in the bed. So you get a bed cover but that's not 100% against rain. That would be so badass. Plus the fact that it can serve as its own generator. That's wild.
Agree. I've never looked at a truck bc I don't really need the bed and have always needed the inside space to carry things but that truck has both. And yea all the electrical stuff was awesome. Even has a drain plug to use that space as an ice chest for a tailgate.
We like to have fun here
Imma be honest that Lightning looks legit af
Little bit longer vid with more details.
Got my Tesla connector hooked into the garage. Now I just need the fucking car.
What's with all the Rivian love? Is it mostly the aesthetic? I'm surprised how many people stan for Rivian when the price, specs, charging network, etc., aren't competitive with Ford or Tesla.
Yea totally aesthetics for me. If Ford makes an SUV similar to the F150, woo boy. Tesla's "SUV" is a hatchback and their truck looks like something from a Sci fi movie so they do nothing for me.
Ford will have a Bronco and Explorer within 5 years I think.
The international automobile production industry is broken, and Rivian is a revolutionary disruptor, it's the greatest invention/innovation in human history, here me out, you need to become wildly educated about it, GET ON OR GET RUN OVER
whoops, wrong thread
I'd be in for an electric Jeeo but the one they made has a 25 mile range on full battery lol. Like what's the point.
I didn’t realize the cost of a Tesla powerwall until just now. $7,700 per 13.5kwh. LG look to be around $3,600 per 10kwh. That alone means the F150 is a hell of a deal. Plus you get to drive your power bank instead of it sitting idle for months at a time. Based on my average usage without EV charging I’d need a $15-30k power wall system to keep me going for 3 days at full power.
Whatever ford suv that comes out in that timing will be my choice
Charging ecosystem should have caught up by then to make it work
way sooner than that and it will probably be the Explorer
Most important brands to Ford: Mustang, F150, Explorer, Transit- will all have full electric models by end of 2023 is my guess
Saw my first id.4 on the road yesterday
I did not follow them and harass them with questions at a stoplight, but I thought about it
Did you go NEMA 14-50?
For someone like my wife it would be perfect. Works a couple miles from our house, daycare is a couple miles, so basically 95% of her life. So on almost every day of the year 25 miles of range would be plenty. We take my car on any longer trips.
Make sure you submit for a rebate with Georgia Power, they'll give you $250. The cost of installing a dedicated 50 amp circuit for the 240v outlet and the charger was like $1400.
Been a fan of these for a while.
had me in the first half
Don't know much about Ford's system, but I have to imagine the Powerwall has a lot more features.
That's fair. Honestly I fall in the same category. I'd just prefer to have no ICE engine and at least have 100-200 mile range. That would be enough for me and the we can use my wife's SUV for any trips. We don't need 2 cars with a lot of range.
I’m Marietta Power but I’ll have to check if they have a rebate. I ended paying $1,100 to have it run.
For home backup, it’s just a big battery as far as I can tell. Some connected features, but nothing crazy. Possibly if you’re storing from off-grid, but that’s totally different need and usage.
Agreed, I was being conservative based on their last release.
Oh that sucks, they don't have a rate it looks like to charge you based on the time of day. Your Tesla will be different but I'm probably adding an 130kwh to my monthly usage.
quick glance shows that the powerwall has a time of day feature for opting to use the wall over the grid. yeah its just a big battery but there's some intelligence in the controller.
I know nothing about these power walls. Are they basically solar generators? I've been looking at adding a generator to power our home during the annual hurricane power outage but haven't looked at solar options. I know it's not vehicle related but figured I'd ask about them here.
Yea just looked into it and they don’t have shit for EVs. Fucking Cobb County.
Literally just a battery pack. Can be used to bank solar or wind energy for those times of no sun/wind if you’re off grid, or just stand by as a backup for outages if you’re on-grid.
Yea I just want it for backup, but looks like Tesla is only available if you do the full roof and I don't think I want that. I want to stay on grid but gave a backup to run AC and everything when power goes out.
they force you to buy solar now if you want the power wall
Their solar roof was just found to be a massive ripoff, too. All roads lead to the F150. It is god’s will.
