These are all reasons to shy away from some of the newer EV's. I'm more confident in Ford and their production quality, but I love the look of the Rivian's, but I don't want to have all those problems you dealt with.
A roll shade in the head liner or pillar would be so clutch. For all vehicles, which should also be electric.
I’ve had wonky software stuff here and there, but no build quality or physical component concerns at nearly 6 months and 14k with the Mach E.
It was. And to Tesla's credit they were amazing through the whole experience with that car (which is why I felt comfortable buying another one) Tesla service isn't nearly as white glove as it used to be though. In the 'early' days you'd take your car in and get the latest greatest tricked out loaner and they toss me some free swag and etc. They even set me up with a place to work one day. The craziest part is they'd just do things and tell me about it later -- "we noticed the back door handle was acting up a little so we went ahead and replaced it." These days it seems a lot more like a dealership and you kinda have to push to get stuff done (they are saying no to my steering wheel currently, for instance)
I’m guessing they haven’t scaled the rest of their business to match their production output, or made the choice to back off to cut costs in those areas.
I'm guessing Tesla HQ is making it harder for service centers to get approval on warranty repairs (to save $).
More edges = more wind resistance = decreased range. Sorry you don’t know how this works yet. Jk glad you’re on the wagon
Well... I was going to order a Model 3 Long Range, but my car just took a shit and I'll have to get something a little sooner. Looks like I'm buying slightly used. Do model years or mileage make much of a difference on Teslas?
not as much as other cars but later hardware revisions are a nice thing. For example, if you can find a used car with 3.0 over 2.5 or 1 you’ll get to play with the latest self driving stuff. I honestly wish they’d do model years like everyone else on the planet but..
The new ones are a lot better but still trailing in overall fit and finish. They’re just insanely fun to drive and stuff like the supercharger network are really hard to replicate. That being said.. I’ve been a hardcore Tesla fan and made a decent amount on their stock, but I’m still crushing pretty hard on the F150 electric.
That, the number of people that have them, and Elon being a jackass stopped me from pulling the trigger.
There’s plenty of stories of doors not working, water coming through windows, etc. they’re put together in a hurry to keep the stock afloat.
That is true for when it’s a new model. But as time goes on they do get better. My model 3 had zero fit/finish issues. Still doesn’t excuse the issues given the cost of the cars.
My take is that they can eventually push great software updates to a very well-built car, but you can’t really rebuild a poorly built car that has great software.
It's turned into that for sure. I still believe in the energy play they're pursuing -- I've personally experienced the halo effect of buying an electric car then solar then researching batteries and so on. They're in a position to straight up vertically integrate the entire thing and that could be massive. But they're valued as if having already accomplished it and Elon seems like the most distractable person on earth. I was early enough that I could sell a decent number of shares and still keep the majority of my stake. Kind of figure to just think of it as a lotto ticket that's already paid for itself.
Like I said before, when you can spend $20k extra to have less range, slower performance, no charging network, slow deliveries, and sub par technology, you’ve gotta do it.
EA is free this weekend. It’s free a lot. Pretty nice to get 500 hours from ford plus the free weekends. Obvs not as nice as free supercharging or the VW 3-years-free plan.
I found it very funny that the only dealership near me that accepts online orders is one that specializes in selling cars to the young enlisted boys at the nearby army post. Salesman messaged me within ten minutes of me hitting submit. Looked him up since his name was unique, he was in high school in 2019.
I watched dozens of youtubes on how to check the quality of your Tesla and mine had nothing wrong with it when I received it. Every fit was right that I checked. I think the quality has improved a lot.
My used 2018 Model 3 has zero fit issues and only issue that it has given me at all over last year was the 12V battery was going to die. Apparently early model 3's had some weird software issue that killed them prematurely. I didn't want to get stranded so I went straight to the service center. They were absolutely slammed but they let me drop it off and transferred $100 in uber credit so I could get around for the day. They also didn't charge me for the 12V since I have an early model 3.
I know Ford Fusion Hybrids used a magnet to keep the doors shut or to open (can't remember exactly) and that there was a big recall on them because the batteries were dying (it happened to me in my company car fusion hybrid). The magnets would also lose power and the doors would just open aparently.
Ordering a 3. Going white, LR, with black interior. Any reason (practical, not interested in cosmetic improvements) to upgrade the wheels?
if you dont care for the look of your wheels, the base 18 are the best "improved range" (some say it's maybe 10ish miles) but also because they are 18", you get a better and quieter ride since there is more tire to absorb those things
Polestar just announced two years of free charging with electrify America. Makes me question whether I need to move forward with a home charger.
If we move forward with getting an EV, we’ll have to install a new breaker box and new electricity ran to our garage. Need to see how close chargers are to me so I could use those as a stop-gap.
I have a Electrify America right down the street at the grocery store. That being said, I get what racer is saying about the convenience of being able to plug in at home.
Obviously weigh the costs. If it’s a $5k job I’m probably sitting my ass at the chargers twice a week for 45 minutes. If you can do it for 3-800 like most, totally worth it. Mine cost $90 in materials and 200 or 250 cash for the electrician.
Yeah our biggest issue is the house is old and the current box is nearly maxed out, if not already. We only have one outlet in the garage and it’s not grounded. For a purchase as big as this, I’d rather upgrade the outlet and box than risk something worse.
Hi AptosDuck, There’s only one way to describe this feeling—and it’s, well, electric. Your ID.4 order is locked!
I drove to Orlando with my wife this weekend. It was about 210 miles each way. I stopped and charged about 80% of the way there and at that point it said I could get there with 8% battery left.It is most definitely possible to go to Orlando from South Florida without charging. I had a couple embarassing moments with the Tesla. I bolded the resolution to hopefully save someone else the embarassment. - I went to a car wash and couldnt' figure out how to put the car in neutral. They had to hit the stop button and stop everyone else that was currently in the car wash (like a ski lift). Move the right stock/shifter up or down one half a click. - I was at Chic-fil-A and it was raining. I couldn't figure out how to turn the wipers off while ordering and it kept sloshing a shit load of water into the car. Once I took a second to look, i figured it out, but in the moment I didn't know wtf to do. Click the wipers button that's about the 1,2,3, Auto button
Also the entire internet will tell you you’re the biggest idiot loser on the planet if go to a car wash instead of doing the two bucket method. Fuck that noise, I ride through that bitch 2-3x a week.
I’ve read all those comments and it’s concerned me about going through the auto car wash. Something about the paint isn’t quality and it ends up scratching and chipping easier or some shit. Also some concerns it might affect the cameras or something?
Not sure on Tesla specifically, but I wouldn’t be completely shocked if their paint and exterior assemblies weren’t rock solid. Overall paint and clear coats on newer cars are much better than they used to be. Sort of like smart phone glass. These same people also ceramic coat or ppf the day they get the car and are still terrified of car washes.
haha I wasn't that bad. I just didn't know how to put it in Neutral. I know how to keep it in neutral.
I'm probably going to get our car ceramic coated. People say it helps keep it cleaner and having a black car is a bitch to keep clean. We have a membership to a drive through car wash by our house. I did it in Orlando to get all the bugs off. If the paint on a new Tesla chips or fades on a new car, I'll never buy one again.
I did the 2 bucket deal for a while, really not a big deal as the model 3 just isn't that big but I have a used 2018 that has a ton of chips and swirl marks already so said fuck that and got one of those monthly memberships at at a car wash. Like you, I ride through that bitch at least 3 times a week.
Went by the local VW dealership yesterday to have the wife test drive the id.4 that I already ordered (probably January delivery). They just had two come in Thursday, a Pro S RWD and an AWD, and salesperson said that the AWD went for $10k over MSRP, and the RWD went for $5k over. She said that it was good that we locked our order when we did because they're starting to add dealer markup to the id.4. She also said they were getting a lot of interest from disgruntled Bolt drivers ElectrifyHome charger arrived via FedEx Friday, contractor will hardwire it first week in November.
Keep your eyes open for any cancellations that match your criteria. You might find something close or the same. Also may be worth a couple thousand to take it home vs playing a waiting game in todays world of shortages.
