I always go to Edmunds.com and use the car compare tool when I'm researching buying a new car. I assume they'll have all the EV stats on that tool too.
polestar is cool. everyone walking around turning their head trying to figure out what it is. the trunk space and backseat are not great, imo. and once you add all the features it gets closer to $70k. i thought the ionic 5 was the best ride and felt the most well made. model 3 and polestar were a little more sporty / fast but we don’t drive like that anyway. i thought both were noisy and you could feel a lot of bumps.
Jeep is announcing their "electric" Grand Cherokee tomorrow. I assume it's a hybrid like the Wrangler 4xe. They have a long way to go with their batteries but the performance side is already there. The 4xe will eat up any non-392 Wrangler off road.
I never realized you could do it while in drive. That seems very dumb but I’ve also never used it even in park so.
I want an electric vehicle that has these off road and AWD/4WD capabilities. But seems like the price point is gonna be outrageous for a few more years.
Booked a Budget Premium EV (Model Y or similar) for Las Vegas in March. Assuming it will just be a Y. Excited to compare. Roughly the same rates as Turo + airport delivery, but with the peace of mind of knowing there shouldn’t be any funny business.
I checked on insurance and I’m good for Turo, just not with CC coverage. I scrapped the Budget and booked Turo for a Model 3 performance.
Currently on a wait list for an Audi Q4 e-tron. No clue when they will actually be released in the US, as it keeps getting pushed back. Dealers are telling us late 2Q or early 3Q as of right now.
Nissan announced and Infiniti EV and a Nissan sedan EV starting in 2025. Whether that's production or ramping up the plant, not sure. The new Ariya looks pretty sweet though.
Went to the Rivian hub on Friday in Venice. Cool place and the vehicle looks great. Interior is top notch. SUV is bigger than I thought, it’s as wide as a Tahoe and two inches taller too. We were worried it wouldn’t be big enough with our third kid on the way but think it should be fine now. Only question is if we can hold out until Q1 next year for delivery with the little one expected to be here in August, currently rocking an explorer with 120k miles on it but it hasn’t had any major issues so fingers crossed.
Saw an Ioniq5 on the road when I went to Raleigh last weekend. A little smaller and lower to the ground than I’d like a vehicle, but it looked awesome.
i’ve driven the ionic5, polestar, tesla, e-tron and i think i’m about to order a long range awd model 3 talk me out of it
I've been trying to talk my wife into a model 3 performance. The long range is much more sensible, but those uberturbine rims on the performance are too sexy.
I've wondered about the AWD part with EV's. With ICE vehicles, I've had an AWD or 4WD for every vehicle forever. For basically every EV that I've seen that offers both AWD and FWD variants, it really seems like getting the AWD version cuts a lot into the range compared to its FWD version. Combine that with range being one of the very most important factors I just wonder if the trade off for AWD is worth it for me and what I assume is most people.
Unless you’re going 200+ miles a day on a regular basis range is not nearly the deal people make it out to be. I talked to someone with a Pacifica hybrid the other day and he said something along the lines of “I get 32 miles on electric and I hardly ever get gas anymore.” The utility and fun factor of AWD is worth it to me.
I hear ya...it's an interesting discussion. On one hand, you're right in that +90% of days you're never going to come close to driving the full range. On the other hand though, +90% of days you have no use for AWD. Even living in an area where it snows. The problem with that though is that when/if you need AWD then you really need it. I get your point but I will say if I lived say in Missouri or anywhere south then I'd be taking the range all day over AWD.
Just got an email from Rivian that due to supply chain pressure my Rivian just went up $18,000 from $76,000 to $94,000. Not cool…
Haven't even purchased yet but my Ford guy flat out told me they have no idea when the F-150s will be in - wouldn't even give me a general range.
Rivian forums are hot. Polls showing 40% of people are cancelling reservations. I’ve only had mine for about six months and I’m pissed, can’t imagine how mad the people with reservation for 3+ years are. I’m not cancelling right away but hard to trust this company with this and I was already worried about getting in so early with a new company.
Sucks and not smart to piss a hell of a lot of people off who literally put their interest in your product in writing but I bet they'll still get plenty of buyers. At least for the first model year.
They’re just capitalizing off the people who would pay that. Many would buy and flip for that and more.
Odd they are doing it with a new design and not just a Grand Cherokee. Haven't seen any specs on range or anything yet.
