I love the idea of the electric f150, and Ford will do it well And eventually when range and infrastructure get better, I can see it being a great solution for fleets It being called the "lightning" is fucking with me though
I have customers all over. So bouncing around isn't possible in pinch. And going to more remote areas finding fast chargers is next to impossible. I'd be constantly be worried about finding a quick charge when I'm really busy. I currently have a 36 gallon tank for my truck. So I can pretty much go 600 miles without even worrying about finding gas. But yeah if the mileage was closer to 500 or 400+ with max settings I'd be all in.
I know for the lightning they’re offering a battery that looks like a bed tool box that it can run off of. Don’t know how many miles it adds.
These already exist as part of a conversion kit to electric. They are common on ambulances because they idle so much and it’s a lot quieter.
No about 6k/month. But the bigger issue is charging my phone, laptops, running the AC on a job etc. I'd kill the battery
But it's range is 300 miles. If I drive 200 out to a job idle I'd have to charge no matter what to get back. It's not an option. At least for a work truck the way I use it.
yes if you're driving 6+ hours in a day an electric car is not a great option but also what are you doing with your life
No fucking shit genius. I just said its range wasn't going to hack for me. I was waiting for this to come out for awhile now. I planned on getting one next year.
As someone who hates driving and is moving to an e-scooter for my daily commute that sounds miserable but feel like we're only 2-3 years away from vehicles that will work for people with crazy commutes and such like that.
Calm down chief. You're the one screaming into the void about how a certain vehicle won't work for your very specific scenario.
Who's screaming? I'm the guy that wanted to buy it. And I think a lot of guys aren't going to be able to use it as a work truck with that range.
If you work out of your truck? If you run tools off of it on top of that? I dunno. Seems like it's a bit too low for a work truck. I think this is a bit too much to account for with the amount of quick charging stations around.
The average person drives 30 miles per day. You're the extreme minority and they aren't worried about you bc you're not their target demographic.
I just did the math. Id be at about 260 charges a year. So every day I'd live or die by finding a charge that would be fast enough to keep me going.
Exactly this, if this thing was being built mostly for contractors and other construction guys they wouldn't have started with all initial release models being super crew cabs with a short bed. It's designed far more for your average suburbanite then specifically for construction guys.
Not a bad thought, but it’s 325 miles from my house in VA to my parents in PA and I usually don’t stop, think I would work most EVs.
People are really triggered by the name. The comments section on a video I watched was hilarious. I get the nostalgia but the name recognition is too good for Ford not to use it. I really need to sit down and try to figure this out. The Hybrid gets 28mph atm. So it's my first option
Nah. I don't work 9-5. That's another reason to need a bigger battery. Because the charge rates arent going to help me out if Im crazy busy. 44min is a long time for a fast charge. The plan was to get a secondary truck to begin with so i dunno.
I considered a scooter or even electric bike bc I work 2 miles away, but I read about people getting hit all the damn time so backed out. What scooter are you going with and will you just take neighborhoods?
You sound like all the boomers that complain about our EVs. I bought loaner cars that are EV to gently introduce them, and people have a fit. BUT WHAT IF I RUN OUT OF POWER?!? uhhh charge it before it dies It’s different so people look for the most extreme use cases to prove why change is bad.
There’s a lot of construction guys that are going to switch to the EVs. I talked to an owner of a large HVAC down here and he had already preordered 50 of the EV cargo vans. He was asking me about the electrical infrastructure he needs to get in place to handle all those.
How often do you make that drive? If it’s weekly I get it. If it’s a month just add a half hour break and charge. It’s easy to focus on something you do a few times a year and think it doesn’t make sense. Imagine all the time and headaches you’ll save the rest of the year not going to gas stations. Maybe I’m the only one that hates going to them. I more so hate my wife going to a gas station so I have to do it for her.
After 6 months of research and not being sure I'm going with a cycleboard. Much better build and safer to ride. Going to add a ton of LEDs on it to make me very visible. My commute is a mix of residential roads and high traffic ones that I might do sidewalks on some.
Oh yeah for sure I’ve come around on this and think it would be fine. About to put a reservation in for one.
Yeah def personal preference. I think bikes are probably smarter for most, just I personally find the scooter experience more fun and these ones I can do one handed and move cargo.
