you can probably get a model Y....demand going way down. I think you could get a Model Y Performance in October.
I-80 is a pretty great EV-spotting corridor for being smack in the middle of the country. Both by the truck load and individually on the road and fast charging.
I think the EV6 sacrifices cargo space behind the rear seat, because overall cargo space with the rear seats down is a lot less than the ID.4 We had to wait nine months for our ID.4, and VW announced in April that they were sold out for the rest of the year. I've seen folks on the VW forum say don't cancel your order to get an Ioniq5 because Hyundai's online ordering system is a lot worse than VW's (the Ioniq5 and EV6 share chassis stuff, IIRC, but I don't know how much else they share, but I'd imagine that Kia has similar problems keeping up with demand). That said, if you're persistent and don't mind paying $5-10K over MSRP, these cars can be found. And if you have a 3 and were thinking of an interim EV before getting a Lightning, it sounds like money might not be that big an issue
I see Ford is threatening dealers over ev plans and gouging. Sounds like most of these car companies are going to do dtc soon with the shift to ev
Good. Dealerships need to GTFO. They’re gonna have some issues in some states that have passed laws to stop Tesla sales.
Just put a deposit down on a lariat F150 Lightning due in first week of October at MSRP (pre-increase). Same dealer 2 hours away where I randomly stumbled into my Mach-E.
I could be wrong, but it looks like every state has applied, it's just those 34 that have been approved so far.
That’s a good point. I had understood it that the other 17 hadn’t submitted plans at all. It does look like these 17 skew republican but I don’t know why they weren’t approved. Could be a half-assed proposal, stupid plans proposed, or political.
I think the hang up is the exceptions they are asking for. Like in some of the rural areas, not having this # stations every thirty miles or whatever the standard is.
Sold the Mach-E for nearly original MSRP 18 months and 33k miles later. They pick up next week. Lightning updated to show an estimated delivery of 10/7-10/13 so we’re almost there. Wife wants a Kia Carnival so it also looks like we’ll be hitting the pump again in 6-12 months :/
Sounds like they’re getting toward the end of the model year and starting to mix in dealer stock orders that can be built with materials and parts that are left and unallocated or something along those lines. Lucky for me this is basically what I would have ordered, except for color. This one is black and I probably would have gone blue or gray, but black was in my top 2 or 3 colors. I would have liked the glass roof, but I don’t know that it would have been worth 11k. A few of these dealer orders are rolling off without the blue cruise and phone as a key upgrade, which I wouldn’t be interested in at that price point.
For some reason the right wing crazies I know on facebook all share anti electric car memes. Its like a bunch of qanon and that. Its bizarre.
As of a few minutes ago I’m no longer a Mach-E owner. Just on the purchase tax credit and resale I was into this thing for a net profit of about $75. If I figure the gas and oil savings over 18 months and 33k miles vs the comparable gas crossover I replaced I’m ahead by about $3400. Drive electric and eat Arby’s.
Keep on searching dealer sites and calling when you see something that matches what you want. Sometimes you just get lucky and they had a customer not take their order or something. Happened to me twice now.

I was all in on the 2023 ID4 but the Chevy Blazer EV looks nice. Plus the up to 320 miles of range on the RS model is a game changer, that's really good. I still like the ID4 design more, but not sure I can turn down the range value of the Blazer.
I dismissed pretty much all domestic automakers as largely pumping out hunks of shit and thought I’d never by a car that wasn’t Asian ever again. Here I am putting in work to buy my second ford in 2 years. It feels weird.
It’s almost like when the American ingenuity gets going we do shit right. But sit in that lull of “we got the market captured so what the fuck are the consumers going to do about it?”
Yea, the range is going to be a bit annoying. Not enough to be a deal breaker but would be really nice to be closer to that 300 mark. I mentioned earlier but I just had a second kid and the Tesla M3 is just too tight with everyone in it. This is just to hold me over till there are some better options available in the next year or so.
Just here to vent some anxiety. The lightning was released by the plant a few days ago, which I gather to mean that the shipping carrier can load it and go at any time. No updates on that end. According to the lightning forums, sometimes they’re being delivered before any shipping info updates. Other times they’re legit sitting for 2 weeks+. It’s about 11 hours by truck, so I’m hoping it’s one of those where it’s just been thrown on a truck bound for I-80 west and it shows soon. Also the dealer is being super slow to respond to my request to confirm the final selling price, so that’s making me anxious. I’m still assuming that they’re honoring the salesman’s word of MSRP until I hear otherwise, but it’s bugging me.
Rented a model 3 for a week in Oregon. The 0-60 in 2.9 and autopilot has me really considering buying one.
FWIW I really like mine. I know a lot of people talk shit about it (and Tesla in general), but for the price I feel like it was definitely worth it.
At this point if you are in the market for a mid sized SUV or crossover, don't settle for less than 250 miles of range, and really you shouldn't go less than 300. My true test is I have family in north Orlando ~185 miles away, I'd like to be able to make that round trip back to Fort Myers on a full battery. I'd imagine we aren't far off from 400 or 500 miles or range to completely rival the best ICE SUVs.
230 range gang checking in. In my experiences thus far I haven’t had an issue with the quoted 270 range on the Mach-e save for 1 or two times that I planned poorly. I generally stayed between 15 and 80 on road trips. The Lighting will charge as fast 10-90 as 15-80 on the Mach-E, so I’m rating the real useable highway range about the same. Most people won’t sniff the high end of the range on a daily basis. After getting gas and driving around in a rental all week I put a ton of value on home charging and not having to gas up. That outweighs the minor inconveniences of road trips for me.
you want to make a 370 mile trip on a full battery? probably gonna be awhile for that, and if you can get that it's gonna cost you a lot of money highway range gets shit on and it's really not a big deal to just stop and charge
I definitely know I won't be able to make that round trip if I buy an EV in 2023. I will be thrilled with 300+.
I don’t know if we will ever see 500 miles of range in consumer EVs. There will likely be one or two niche cars that get to 400, but the mass of a battery that size will be a significant hurdle with regard to energy efficiency. The more realistic variable I believe is looking at charging speed. The EV6 charges from 10-80 in 18 minutes. If the engineers can get that number down to 5 or 10 minutes, to be more on par with what we expect at a gas pump. Nearly all inconvenience of road trips will vanish, even if the range remains at 300 miles.
Plus having the fast chargers that are capable of that available at many, many more locations which will take a long while unfortunately
True, and if they can get the tech to evolve where the concept of a "pump" plugin goes away and EVs charge via wireless stations that people pull in and out of quickly without leaving the car...then you've got real transformation.
