Driving again but packing the courts and filibuster immediately come to mind. Circumventing democratic norms because you can get your ideas through fair and square
Again guys, voting to keep Warnock in a few months but I think you gotta recognize things have gotten a bit out of hand
It’s not hard to admit you’re wrong and had a bad take I’d say I do it all the time, but I can’t recall ever having a bad take
Don’t text and drive you stupid idiot, it prevents you from accessing readily available information regarding which party has weaponized these two processes to a greater degree
Unironically defending Dabo’s mouth breathing takes. posters just making their posts so easy to refute itt
Why hasn’t Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell filibustered more legislation? -me, a stupid idiot who doesn’t (or chooses not to) understand the vaguest concept of how Senate procedure works
That’s more extreme to you than criminalizing the transgender transition process, censoring textbooks and discussion in schools about racial, gender and sexual orientation topics, outlawing abortion, devising workarounds to circumvent election results and trying to uproot the presidential certification process? Yikes.
To be fair, they have wanted that all along. They were just finally able to enact some policy inline with their long held and dear values.
There’s so much that I can’t even keep it all straight. But wanting simple majority rule for legislation and talking of “court packing” to make the Supreme Court more even than 6-3 (or 5-3-1) is much more troubling.
Republicans have held power in state legislatures in the South for decades. Their power to enact these laws isn’t new, their stocking of the judiciary is.
Anyone below this post who engages with Talking Head 2.0, I will withhold my next like that I would have otherwise given you. Toss this bumblefuck to the shadow realm.
Whammy dude, please don't go down this path. You honestly sound like Talking Head in 2018. He kept wanting to have the same arguments, both sides had moved equally "extreme." He kept buying into right-wing talking points and then just flat out became a MAGA dipshit.
White washing the first time the US capitol was breached in 200 years as just 8 guys causing problems is a sad statement of someone who doesn’t care about his country. Allowing that event to get distorted and changed is disgusting.
So much so that republicans are now rolling back childhood vaccine requirements that they had no problem with 4 years ago in red states. The right is static though.
Court packing and the filibuster, two things the Democrat establishment that possesses all the power have opposed at every step. This dude dumb as fuck
Trump was not removed by the way. McConnell (and almost every Republican Senator) did not vote to convict.
The filibuster is anti-democratic. Supporting it necessitates opposing democracy. It is not in any way consistent with the description of a bill becoming a law outlined in the constitution. Did you have any civics lessons in school?
When we go full fascist in 2024 Whammy will still be complaining about the left. Despite the fact that it hasn't had meaningful power in this country since FDR
Also, it was republicans that packed the court. And also prevented Obama from filling vacancies in the federal bench and the Supreme Court. What bubble are you living in that you don’t know this?
Speaking of climate change, did you know that Republicans are the only major Western political party that denies the existence of climate change?
I’m not even sure how you can make the argument that the right hasn’t shifted more than the left. Like, you have to live entirely online for that to make any amount of sense. I never hear any of my lib friends talking about culture war bullshit in real life. The conservatives I still talk to never fail to bring up whatever the “outrage of the day” is.
I guess if your argument is that conservatives have always been anti-democratic bigots and now they're just more open about it then maybe I can get on board. But then the distinction is entirely meaningless
There have always been anti-Democratic bigots (certainly since the Southern strategy) but 2010 was a watershed moment in terms of who is driving the bus.
I remember being a right wing idiot then having a cup of coffee with libertarianism when I thought social conservatism was immoral then finally realized being above the fray just meant you were a ball gargling dumbass who was incapable of an original thought. Like a defense mechanism for an internal political shift that you don’t want to accept
As a blue voter in a swing state, Georgia, I’ve done more to drive Trump out of power than most of you tbh. Don’t get the hate, try looking inward sometime boys. And I haven’t changed, have always gotten flack for being a centrist Democrat vs. a real Leftist. That’s ok, it is what it is. Such is life on TMB
Policy preferences and interpretations of events are frequently referred to as facts around these parts
Sure thing you can ignore actual events if that makes you feel better but be prepared to catch shit for it
We still have no examples of the leftward shift or how the left has become extreme. Just going to post through it I guess
I'll give you abortion rights. Texas has now criminalized transition therapy and other states are following suit, and Kemp is now a pariah for not overturning the election in Georgia, so you're wrong there. And if you don't think a wing of the GOP, which may be the majority of the GOP in a bunch if states, tried to overturn the popular vote in a bunch of states and stormed the capital at the behest of Republicans to stop the certification of the election is a coup or attempt at an insurrectionist, you're a fucking moron. You just don't want to look at it that way, because it seems crazy. And it is crazy, but that's a large chunk of the GOP. They're also trying to roll voting rights back into the 60s and destroy the postal service, ban books again, become isolationist or pro-authoritarian, cut of immigration completely, privative education and completely eliminate any gun control measures. Those are are further right positions than the GOP was running on 14 years ago, off the top of my head. If you want to say they've always been pieces of shit on gay rights and minority rights and workers rights, fine, but they don't rewarded for remaining abhorrent on those issues.
