other notable POTY - Adolf Hitler (1938) - The American Soldier (2003) - Vladimir Putin (2007) - Donald Trump (2016)
If they really wanted to sell subs/mags they should have given it to “normal Americans” and then used a picture of AOC to represent normal Americans
I must have missed some stuff, why do we hate Musk? Tesla and SpaceX are massively important companies, and the HyperLoop could be a game changer.
He's an awful human who says incredibly stupid and damaging shit constantly. He's no different than any other shitbag billionaire besides focusing on a couple industries that are interesting and need to be the future of energy.
Both of those, SpaceX and Tesla, have gotten massive government subsidies to the point where it was almost impossible for them to fail
Remember when Musk accused someone trying to save some kids in a cave of being a pedophile for absolutely no reason at all.
musk is elite at hacking the media but having dicey actual products or services the most american position to be in
The best thing to be said about Musk is that Tesla pushed actual automakers to move toward electric cars and SpaceX has legit substantially contributed to rocket technology. But we wouldn't have needed SpaceX to do it if we properly funded NASA in the first place. He's the perfect encapsulation of the US' insistence on privatizing the gains and socializing the losses.
Nevermind the fact that he's constantly manipulated Tesla's stock in the past just by publicly talking about it on twitter. He stays fucking with the shorts.
gee why do people dislike this ultra billionaire who takes massive government subsidies so his companies can't fail all while paying zero taxes?
Musk’s net worth, and it varies considerably week-to-week and month-to-month, in early November was almost $300 billion more than it was before the pandemic. Tons of other reasons, but if that doesn’t scream major fuck I don’t know what does.
And fighting against tax increases and union laws and really anything that makes lives better for normal people but hurts a tiny bit of his fortune.
The Tesla thread has had a real transformation in the last 5-6 years from having mostly posters that thought like Jake Barnes (except Gallant Knight who's always hated him) to most everyone thinking he's mostly an elite charlatan with some pretty nice cars and an interesting reusable rocket.
for anyone who cared to pay attention along the way, just how gross is his family's money? I've seen references to South African diamond mines, but know nothing past that
No one does, but it'd be extremely naive to think his dad was the one apartheid era mine owner and it not be shady af
Remember when Musk argued with the head of the WHO about what "solving" world hunger means and sort of offered to donate billions to help feed the world's hungry but didn't (and won't) actually do that at all
Based on its own criteria, I don't have an issue with him being Time's "person of the year." It's not an honorary. But, it is baffling that anyone in 2021 can ask, "what's wrong with Elon Musk?"
(further context - he had a $15 billion tax bill to pay, and the IRS doesn’t accept stock. Also this tweet was in and of itself a little market manipulatey)
