love Van in everything he does. his random appearance on Podcast but Outside was great. at 13 minutes: also a great editing joke at 38:45
Such a great “couple”. A fucked up thing that is often overlooked about that situation is that Sally Hemmings was Jefferson’s dead wife’s half sister. Keep it classy Thomas.
Up until very recently (last 5 years I'd say), the historians at his properties completely glossed over this fact or said it was folklore. Our entire discourse about the colonel times and the antebellum south is whitewashed to make certain people feel comfortable in those spaces. I could do an entire rant about people who get married at plantations. But I'll save it for another time.
It makes me irrationally angry that Acho uses both hands to "drink" from what appears to be an empty cup at the :30 mark.
Acho, a self proclaimed “hip-hop head”, continued: “i had this new culture to consume and i couldn’t get enough. Macklemore, Harlow- all those guys. they speak from the heart about their pain and struggle and that resonated with me.”
People like Acho are the worst. It’s not his bad takes. It’s the narcissism of when there’s almost universal pushback to his takes, he doesn’t take a step back to reflect. It’s everyone else that’s off base. Not him.
Whitlock has always come off as a contrarian that just says shit he knows will put him in the spot light and grift off that. He knows what he’s doing. Acho comes off as a moron who actually believes his bullshit. I agree Acho is going down the same trajectory, but also, a little different.
Anyone know anything about the Acho Brothers upbringing? I believe their mom and dad are Nigerian immigrants, and they grew up in private schools Not sure if they are like generationaly wealth kids or not, but the school they went to is certainly in that kind of neighborhood But I don't think they were exactly raised around "regular " people, and certainly not what you think of when you think Dallas product football player
I don't think you are making excuses for them. But some of the shit Emmanuel spreads on social media is beyond "He went to an elite HS in Dallas" or "He grew up in an affluent neighborhood" talk. He and Rachel Lindsey had a similar upbringing in Dallas, and she doesn't float some of the silly bullshit he does. A perfect example is his tweet about smoking weed as an Olympic athlete. He talks like someone who took the DARE program literally at school. It's so stupid that it's funny. But he doesn't see the joke. I'd love to know what his parents and extended family members think about his comments about not having generational trauma regarding racism/slavery/classism. That moment in the interview made me believe that he has zero self-awareness.
I don't think Emmanuel Acho has the ability to coon as hard as Candace Owens or Jason Whitlock has over the last decade. But he's putting in the extra hours this week. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Whitlock start The Undefeated at ESPN back in the day and went hard at Rush Limbaugh for his racist comments about McNabb on MNF?
If they don’t make that call they are also deciding the game by letting the Bengals get away with a late hit. If it’s a late hit in the 1st quarter, it’s a late hit with under 2 minutes in the game.
The idea that refs should swallow whistles the last 2 mins of any sport is so stupid to me and always has been
Rough 24 hours for Nigerian descendants who played at texas. At least Ossai seems like a sympathetic figure.
