Fulham not on ESPN+? I don’t expect them to air every single cup match but I thought they’d at least be showing every EPL club’s cup matches
I just expected it would be on there. ESPN+ is still great value at $5-6/month for Bundesliga and Serie A so I wasn’t trying to imply otherwise
tbh I have wondered the same thing. Eredivisie coverage is the same, so are multiple others. I guess they might be paying the rights holder a sliding scale based on number of matches broadcast? Everton match will be up shortly.
Yeah they’ll air like 1 Allsvenskan and 1 Eredivisie match over the weekend, which I’m not really seeking out more than that anyway but not sure how that works
This is the west ham co-owner who was moaning in the media this week. The guy looks like a crooked Russian general in a 90s action movie.
is there a shitty steam somewhere for the villa @ bristol city match? it's available for 10 lbs in the UK but i guess not here.
he's legit wearing red army surplus shit? he probably made his money plundering Russia in the 90s like big daddy roman
It’s even better... Spoiler With his business partner, David Gold, Sullivan's first venture was selling soft pornography photos. They expanded into sex shops, adult magazines and several low-budget blue movies, making Sullivan a millionaire by the age of 25.[4] By the late 1970s, he was in control of half of the UK adult magazine market, including major titles such as Playbirds and Whitehouse,[5] 80% of the adult mail order market, and 150 shops. In the late 1970s, he produced several low-budget British sex movies including Come Play with Me(1977) (directed by Harrison Marks). This was followed by The Playbirds (1978), Confessions from the David Galaxy Affair (1979) and Queen of the Blues (1979), all starring his then-girlfriend Mary Millington. After Millington's suicide in August 1979 he continued with Mary Millington's True Blue Confessions (1980) and Emmanuelle in Soho (1981). In 1982, Sullivan was convicted of living off immoral earnings of prostitutes. He successful appealed and was released after serving 71 days in prison.[6]Sullivan explained that he did not feel embarrassed about the initial source of his early fortunes. "I've made a lot of people happy," he said. "If I was an arms manufacturer or a cigarette manufacturer, and my products killed millions of my clients, I'd have a bit of doubt about the whole thing. I was a freedom fighter. I believe in the right of adults to make their own decisions."
But yeah, it seems like it’s going to be a mix all season long and we won’t really know until they release schedules each week
Wish they’d just go back to the gold way of scheduling where everyone has games on there but they are the least desirable. playing the games on peacock is bad for growth of the game. If it’s not accessible, casual fans won’t watch.
I could care less about the growth of the game and I never understood why people did. That said, you think it has to come down to them making more money on the pay model than through advertising. I’d be all in a multiple shit all over my screen with the best teams and games on every week over fucking Peacock.
imo because neutrals and rivals and general market growth are good for me as a consumer. more bars showing games, more earnest fanbases, growth in interest in players and domestic sides, etc etc but idk
I always thought it was more because they realized the larger die hard fan bases would shell out money for a premium service. Like I can skip Chelsea-Brighton but I’m not missing Chelsea-Liverpool. There can’t be a ton of money in Burnley fans.
Out of curiosity, do people want to see NBC lose the rights after 21-22? If so, who are you hoping to see get the rights? In 2015 the only bids were NBC with a 3 year bid, NBC with a 6 year bid, Fox and beIN
No, I want NBC to stop screwing with the TV schedule and do what they’ve done for the past few seasons. They’ve taken a really good thing and made it significantly worse. This isn’t hard to see.
I certainly enjoy ESPN+ and that was why I made sure to mention who bid since ESPN didn’t. But I don’t think ESPN+ was a thing then and ESPN3 was lesser. FWIW, NBC is paying $166-167m/season for EPL and ESPN is reportedly paying $28m for Serie A and $30m for Bundesliga per season They increased price $1 this year with Bundesliga but if they raised it to $15/month but added EPL how much is everyone going to bitch?
NBC has been great and want them to keep. But that doesn’t mean what they’ve done this season is bone headed.
This is where I would be. This season is off to a bad start but I still think they’re probably the best option
I was paying for gold anyway. Doing peacock would be the same for me if the app actually worked on platforms people used. They shouldn’t have started this on a handicapped app, should’ve waited until it was supported on all platforms. And play the best games of tv rather than woman’s club soccer or bmx dirt bike racing. Not that difficult.
For context, ESPN is paying 1.9 billion for MNF in a deal they signed in 2011. 2021 is the last year. Edit: that’s per year.
I understand that, ESPN has money but I’m not sure how that matters in context to EPL rights. The point in discussing the cost was that + went up $1/month with Bundesliga added so I’d assume we would see a larger increase if they added EPL
I’m supporting your point, I’m not soulfly or nexus. I think they’re only going to be smarter with their business moving forward. So yeah no way espn is picking the league up, just my pipe dream.
Oh absolutely. NBC’s motives have always been plain. I’m speaking to why growth of the game matters. and we shouldn’t forget that despite the incredible power of large capitalist firms, they can be myopic; ROI now thru loyal users could well be valued over better long term ROI from a larger segment
