:idk: they wanted to keep him, he had an offer and left anyway because he wanted more playing time and wanted to play centrally which he was supposedly promised in Liverpool, where he's playing LB

I'm the first to shit on John Stones when he makes one of his boneheaded mistakes but I thought he played very well vs. Liverpool, he had some crucial interventions.

Chalk up another win for the assessment.

Talk that wenger will stay but Ozil has one foot out the door. Where is he going to go? I don't think he starts for any team on par or above Arsenal in European football. A German side below Bayern/Dortmund? I doubt anyone beyond those 2 could afford him. Will be interesting to see how that plays out. Maybe Valencia or inter with new, wealthy owners?

I don't think he's better than KDB and united have too many number 10s as it is. On the surface ozil doesn't seem like a mourinho player but they had a lot of success together at real. Maybe mourinho lets go of Rooney/mata and brings in ozil. Will be interesting. I think it's ozil or wenger at this point. Don't see both being back.

They'll meet transfer number and wages as well. I dont think you buy Ozil to compete with KDB, you buy him to compete with Silva.

My sources have verified those reports. Looks like the board has full confidence in Wenger to get things back on track.

this is stupid. he's a world class player who has excelled for both club and country. he's been shit the past few months, but you'd be a fool to discount him based on that. there are plenty of top sides who would find a place for him. people really have such short memories sometimes...

I haven't rated ozil his whole time in England. He is like a better version of Oscar for me. He is a top 5 player in the league when playing a bottom 5 side and makes no impact against top sides. I have watched plenty of Arsenal matches where he is the best player on the pitch. It just never seems to be against a top 4 side or in a champions league match.

Maybe I am overrating Arsenal but I would only put juventus, real, Barca, atletico, Bayern, Dortmund, PSG and the top 5 in England as same tier or above Arsenal. How many of them will make ozil a key player like Arsenal has?

Sanchez is completely different. He would be a massive loss to any team and I think he would start for anyone except maybe Barca and real.

Even if it were completely true, having a player that is extremely useful against every team besides the top 4 would be a huge asset. That's like 80% of your games and all the points count the same.

That's fair. It's tough to tell who is to blame in a situation like that. I have watched ozil do some amazing things. When it comes to technical passing ability cesc and ozil both are capable of things no one else in the League is. I have also watched both disappear from games against top sides numerous times. At Arsenal ozil gets picked for every game until this recent unhappiness spell. I don't think he gets that from any other team in arsenals tier in Europe.

I agree 100%. I hope cesc is ok with the bit role he has at Chelsea. I just don't think that most top players are ok coming off the bench a good bit of the time. The Sanchez situation seems toxic but I have a feeling wenger (assuming he stays) and ozil kiss and make up

I mean, yes, all points matter, but (if we take Raven's hypothetical as true) having a key cog of your offense be ineffective in key matches against teams you are directly competing against is damaging as well. It's worth 3 points, but those matches are more like 6-point swings.

Ozil has a goal or an assist every 140 minutes of his Champions league career going back to his time at Werder Bremen, Hazard is a goal or assist every 193 minutes in the Champions league at Chelsea. Saying Ozil doesn't show up in the Champions league is silly.

talking about whether or not Ozil is a big game performer is moving the goalposts anyway. the original statement was that no big sides would have a place for him. City, Bayern, PSG at least would find a place for him.

now if you want to tell me he wouldn't keep his spot if he had a bad run of form that's a completely different discussion, and I would agree with you. no player should have the luxury of a guaranteed spot at a top club.

7 goal/assists in 8 games isn't going to skew a number for a player that has played 60-70 CL games.

We've looked like absolute shit without Ozil recently, he can do more at times but the problem is the base of our midfield and defense. Hazard and Pedro are having great seasons because the players behind them are doing the dirty work to give them freedom and they release them in space, the players behind Ozil this season(Coquelin) give the ball to the other team in better positions than they do our team. Ozil is fantastic when Cazorla is behind him.

Has had an up and down time, I'll continue to white knight for him though even when he gets sold.

His international career has been pretty spectacular, saying he's not a big game player just bothers me.
