there’s a better chance the ban is upheld and Pep decides he’s leaving after next year than City fires him. not that I think either will happen.
Right but Pep was brought in to win the champions league for them. I don't think Man City give a shit about the league cup or FA cup
If they spend 600 million pounds on the squad than maybe. Also several City managers have won the league.
Any manager they bring in is going to have those expectations. Who out there, that is attainable right now, is a better option than Pep?
I don’t think it’s crazy for Pep to be held to the standard of champions league success ala a PSG manager. That being said, if they replace him, they’re almost definitely downgrading managers.
And they're still in CL... The gun has been jumped is all I'm trying to say. They rightfully have big expectations, but they won 3 trophies last year and have a chance for 3 more this year still.
Selfishly I wish Pep would manage a Sevilla/Lyon/Napoli type club to see how he’d fare without a dominant team and huge budget. He’s obviously an amazing manager but it’s hard to compare his career to others’ when he’s only managed Barca, Bayern, and Man City.
Also, I’ll say it, Liverpool fans attacking Man City about spending cracks me up. It’s not like Liverpool is doing it on academy development. Liverpool are just better at finding suckers to buy their crappy British players.
They bought Suarez, Coutinho, and Sterling for a combined 35 million pounds and sold them for a combined 240 million.
Right, and they have and should be applauded for that. My point is Illini is quick to cite the transfer spend of City. When Liverpool have still spent 400-500 million on players
Right but they spent that much because they sold players to buy them. City haven't had to sell anyone AND have spent almost double of the next highest spending team.
Mane 41mil Wijnaldum 27 van Dijk 84 Salah 42 Ox 38 Allison 62 Keita 60 Fabinho 45 The point is, Liverpool too have spent money. So why attack City for doing it?
They spent less on Salah, VVD, Ox, and Robertson than they made on Coutinho. The window when they got Salah and VVD the team made 20 million. When they got Mane, Matip, and and Gini they made 5 million. Gomez and Trent are academy players. This past window, Liverpool made 30 million in sales having brought no one in during the summer.
Yup and thats exactly why they've been fined for violating FFP and now a second time are facing a 2 year ban.
Again. Just because you've sold players for more money than City has doesn't mean that you guys haven't bought your success. You just did it with other clubs money, cool?
But again, your point is you're dogging on City for buying a lot of players to win. That was your original point. As well as the point that I made. That, yes, you guys sell off players, but you still buy your success as much as City.
Transfers over the last 5 years https://www.transfermarkt.us/premier-league/fuenfjahresvergleich/wettbewerb/GB1
Thats exactly what it means. Thats the entire point of FFP. Every team buys players. No team has a no buying players transfer strategy.
Newcastle has a higher net spend over the last 5 years than Liverpool. They should also be dominating.
Lol. Congratulations on them possibly getting a ban. But they've still won a lot of silverware, no matter how you want to try and cut the cake.
Also I brought up Pep and not City, Pep is a great manager obviously. But not many managers have had the benefits he receives when it comes to players (inheriting Messi) and being able to spend whatever they want to buy the team they want.
