So Silva, Agüero, Mahrez, Bernardo, Otamendi. If Rodri, KDB, Mendy, Walker and Fernandinho score then Ederson gets to take a pen
My understanding after the Sterling offside opening weekend is that they’re looking at every goal and “clear and obvious” doesn’t apply to those.
Which makes sense, since if not we’d just be having the debate on how offside constitutes clear and obvious. The system isn’t perfect - and I get how overturns like today’s are annoying - but imo it’s still much better than the alternative.
I’ve seen the complaint that it’s helping the defending side by doing that but I would tend to agree with you that even with a flawed system it still should be better
Frankly, not enough focus on which moment to freeze the frame and then go check the lines. Correct me if I'm wrong, it's when the pass begins, not when the ball leaves the foot? Didn't get any of that panning around shit or zooming in on Ndombele's foot for the pass.
It’s a disgrace because it properly caught an offsides? I mean it’s one thing if it’s questionable, but when he’s clearly offsides... what is their to bitch about?
Allows them to be lackadaisical... or allows them to let more plays go that are somewhat questionable so they don’t stop an attack that shouldn’t have been?
Set pieces will become much more important now that 25% of goals from free play seem to be disallowed for offsides. I guess I never realized how many goals have a slight offsides pass somewhere in the buildup until VAR.
The only problem with VAR and offside is that now it's like a science. The spirit of the law wasn't to adjudicate the game down to the millimeter. It was to prevent offensive players from gaining clear advantages over the defense.
