thanks for the rant on us soccer immediately after we missed out on the wc, twelly , but it’s time to say goodbye
So “the players decided to play” was pretty much bullshit. UEFA officially burned through any goodwill coming off the super league mess
they did have goodwill regardless of their motivations. They just squandered it. Even I thought it would take more time to ruin it but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised given their track record.
most people don’t really follow like us though. UEFA was incorrectly being viewed as the good guy in many circles. They could have taken advantage of that. Instead they just did what UEFA and FIFA always do and made themselves the bad guys again.
This is kind of cringey. The last thing in the world I am sure he wants is to be MOTM for almost dying.
What's the alternative for Denmark? Just withdraw? As UEFA's biggest supporter I'm not sure what they were supposed to do
10th grade health class. We all got turns on the cpr dummy "Are you OK? Do you understand compounding interest?"
I wasn’t speculating on his comeback to play. More that he will be okay neurologically, which is a concern when you have cardiac arrest. Also I’m a physician and deal with this stuff daily when I work.
Kasper Hjulmand: “Kjaer was very, very touched. They are [Kjaer and Eriksen] very good friends. He wanted to try continue playing, but it was impossible. Feelings overwhelmed him. It is totally understandable.” Kjaer was subbed out early in the second half. Fuck UEFA.
It was really unfortunate there was no good solution. Someone was going to criticize them no matter the outcome.
Giving them just those 2 options is disgusting Players didn’t decide shit, they just chose 1 evil over another
ESPN was certainly trying to whip up the controversy angle postgame; Marcotti tried to say well UEFA didn't have great options here and maybe giving the players some say was the right thing to do even if they're not really in the best frame of mind to make the decision yada yada, and Davis couldn't shut him down quickly enough. They would have been criticized if they'd taken the decision out of the players' hands too. No win situation for them. Howard said that the result would have been different if they'd played at a later date, implying that he thought Denmark was supposed to win the game. No discussion that I saw of the fact that the Finnish players were in the pitch and saw the same stuff that the Danish players saw, they couldn't help but be affected/shocked by it too even if he wasn't their teammate. Anyway, got the distinct impression that ESPN really wanted to push the "game should have been postponed" narrative, no matter what
Out of curiosity what notable person or organization do y'all think would've criticized the postponement, and on what grounds?
