england are gonna really regret making the final if they dont make a change at coaching at least going out in round of 16 would've let them blow it all up
I'm not sure I understand the Declan Rice narrative. it's like people forgot the entire season he just played.
he definitely didn't have a good night, and not a very good tournament. the narrative I'm referring to though is that all of a sudden he's overrated or not a good player.
I’m still stunned that Southgates plan to run Rice 7.5 miles a game after a 4000+ minute season didn’t produce
I appreciate you saying this. Just having a little fun, I don’t think less of Rice or Trent, or anyone for not having great tournaments under Southgate
Or the amount of the pitch he was asked to cover & his role within the England setup. He was utilized negatively & disruptive throughout the tournament, not playing his role at Arsenal. Seeing lots of criticism of him passing sideways, backward, or not barreling forward to join the attack... when Foden, Jude & Kane were all positioned together, occupying the space immediately in front of him.
I haven’t seen that but its a silly notion especially considering that outside of Saka and maybe Jude for a handful of 5 minute stretches none of the Brits had a very good tournament.
I think Rice is overrated but really just in the sense of how England fans talk about him. He's a very good player, but he’s not the best in the world like some English pundits like to act like.
Foden and Kane definitely did Rice no favors. Most of the criticism was not playing forward, but hard to do when Kane is dropping to the halfway line and Foden has disappeared.
Mainoo was really, really poor yesterday which did him no favors. This is 100% on Southgate though... He has the talent to dictate against all but a handful of teams & just doesn't set them up in that manner.
I agree that Southgate is the issue. Full homer, but it’s really insane how he used Palmer. I kept seeing people saying “Southgates subs are brilliant” like yeah but what if those guys actually played like 70-90 minutes?
Nothing about that squad/setup makes sense and it’d be absurd to dig out any one player (except for Kane of course, the useless knob). I mean what in the fuck is this
I think Palmer was probably best used as a sub this tourney, but should have seen 25-30 minutes in every match. Obviously Watkins or Toney should have started upfront & Kane used as a sub as well.
Maybe if Foden is producing, but having your most productive player only on the field for 20 minutes seems dumb.
Should have just played Toney up top with Foden, Jude, Palmer, Saka feeding off knock downs. Would have been way more effective if you can’t field attacking fullbacks or a functional midfield.
I think we're ultimately in agreement... so many better ways to set the team up, but Southgate allowed Harry to hang out at midfield.
Drank in Spain and Germany when I was 16. At the time I looked like a healthy 11.5 going on 12. They don't care.
he was definitely better than Walker (as were many players) but 7 of the 11 being Spanish may have been overkill.
homer but, if you were going to shoehorn an england player in, itd be (especially) saka... or bellingham entire midfield being spanish is overkill
thought he was ok mixed in with a championship winning assist Can’t think of another LB, why I said whatever would have given the goalie nod to Georgia guy
all 3 could have easily been player of the tournament though was kinda surprised Rodri got it, he was his typical self but they turned the screws on England while he was off injured
Saka was good but Bellingham was a wondergoal and nothing else this tournament. I thought Guehi did a really nice job throughout the tournament accounting for himself and justifying his selection, and might’ve been the most consistent English outfielder.
Thought Kounde was really good at RB this tournament even if he hates playing there. Carvajal was Carvajal, Dumfries had flashes. Probably half a dozen guys if not more that were more deserving than Walker.
nah Nico was clearly the PotT and was mostly joking about Carvajal but he did have a goal and 2 assists for the title winners and I can’t really think of anyone else that had an especially great tournament off the top of my head
probably could have an argument for Musiala being in the midfield and slide in someone like Gakpo at striker.
