Forgive me, I'm probably (far) too jaded for that (But also that lines up with my understanding of it and the idea that the teams don't become less "elite" when lacking their best players amuses me)
notice how the rebuttal saying that Woodward was a key figure it attributed to a chief executive but the report from yesterday that he resigned because he was against the super league wasn’t attributed to anyone. It was incredibly obvious that it came from Woodward himself. Media just launder lies without fact checking or asking around which I really hate.
So now it's reported that Putin stepped in and called Abramovich and "heavily hinted" that Chelsea joining the SL was bad for the Motherland because of Gazprom's sponsorship deal with Champions League. In a completely unrelated development, UEFA today doubled the amount of Euro matches in Russia this summer.
If you go look at the top 10-25 inflation adjusted transfer fees, they're all Barcelona, Madrid, with a little United sprinkled in.
So this was uneven from the start with Real Madrid and Barcelona getting more in the beginning? How could these English clubs be so stupid and bail out the two Spanish giants?
so you’re saying that Vladimir Putin is the real hero in all of this? Putin saved football I suppose.
Spurs fans calling for a completely new board that is picked with their consultation, with fan representation or risk a permanent row with fans. I think that’s the most aggressive stance I’ve seen one of the big 6 supporter groups take so far. I doubt levy will care.
The delusional press briefings that Perez is giving to the Madrid media that this thing is still ongoing are hilarious.
But let’s play in this fantasy space for a second...let’s say all 12 clubs DID sign an agreement that’s binding, no matter what their statements have said since. What’s the plan now?
Any of the big teams have a major sponsorship coming due? Like front of the jersey level? I know Spurs still don’t have a sponsor for their stadium. I wonder if new sponsors might be a bit gun shy to come on board with one of these clubs over the next few months. It will eventually boil over but is any company looking to announce a major sponsorship right now?
United just announced TeamViewer as their new kit sponsor last month. Would be very interesting to know if the ESL came up during negotiations and if that impacted the value of the deal.
they didn’t even tell their own board members at most of these clubs. Thad deal is probably locked in and fine. I just think the deals that could be closed this spring and summer could be impacted.
I was more hoping for some opinions on how he feels it's ridiculous for his rich club to play and drop points to a non-rich club.
UEFA cannot ban all 12 teams but they can ban these 3 and likely have little to no issues outside of maybe some complaints by whoever has the champions league TV contract in Spain.
You think banning 3 of the 5/6 biggest clubs in the world including the 2 largest TV draws won’t have any blowback?
for one season? Not much. Teams can miss the competition. Man city and PSG had talks of being banned. The 2 Spanish clubs are bigger but tv contracts aren’t reworked typically because a team or 2 misses it for a year. There have been years that United and Liverpool missed champions league. I just don’t think banning 2-3 clubs would create that much of an issue financially for anyone else.
