I like the hire a lot. He was the only candidate that interviewed for every vacancy. A few teams wanted a second interview (Jets did, Chargers I think, and the Eagles were likely to; can’t remember who else). He’s a very well respected coach that has a run first, play action style game. It helps relieve the pressure on the offensive line. So I think we are good there. I expect Gurley to re-sign again. Maybe we draft one of the UNC backs early to Chubba Hubbard. Matt Ryan will be serviceable in the offense for a couple more years.
If we are stuck with Matt Ryan trade back and collect enough picks to get Najee and many others we desperately need. No more trading up
We need help at literally every level of defense, have no RBs and a mediocre OL. trading back and stock piling players is the correct decision
If we don’t want to draft a QB, and if Sewell is not available, then I am ok trading back. I like Micah Parsons, but this draft has a lot of talent in the second and third rounds. I didn’t think Chris Rumph was getting projected that high, but there are a lot of pass rushers in the second round. With the way the college game has taken to mimic the pro style offenses, you see the transition for QBs to the pros to be easier, or rather quicker, than before. Very rarely do you see teams draft a first round QB to sit on the bench now. Jordan Love is the only one I can think of recently to have been benched. So if we want to move on from Ryan after next season, then let’s draft a QB. If you want to stick with Ryan for 2-3 years, then I could see us grabbing a QB in FA and/or drafting one outside of the first round. I didn’t watch most of our games this season. So my question is, how much of Ryan’s poor play this year was Koetter’s playcalling and how much was Ryan just making mistakes? The Titans offense rejuvenated Tannehill - maybe it can return Matty Ice. Or is Ryan on the verge of playing like Phillip Rivers, and we need to take advantage of a top five pick now to let him sit behind Ryan for one year and then start their second season?
We aren't hiring a fucking coach at least. I'd take one superbowl and a million trips to the playoffs.
I have a bad feeling about passing on an allegedly generational talent at tackle. Assuming he's there.
I would be surprised if Sewell was there at 4. But if he is that should make Fontenot's decision very easy.
Haven’t they been in major cap trouble for like a decade and always seem to make it work and get good players on the team?
I'm not too worried about the Saints cap challenges, pretty clear they were going all in on to maximize the last few years of Brees and it's not like he was responsible for their overall strategy. The talent they have compiled through draft/FA is what gets me excited especially with his role as director of pro scouting. I just hope Rich & Arthur don't hamstring him
I like the Fontenot hire a lot. Say what you will about the Saints and their upcoming cap issues but they have put themselves in a position to be SB contenders year after year with solid drafting and kicking the can down the road. When you have someone like Brees you have to go all in and just push the cap hit further and further off. You don't have a choice really. I also don't think Fontenot was largely involved on the contract side of it more player personnel. Overall I feel pretty good about Smith/Fontenot.
I'd be happy with Wilson. Obviously a franchise LT isn't easy to come by, but I'd rather trade back. We'd benefit from the extra picks. 2 solid contributors is better 1. Plus were gonna need a QB within the next few years and don't want to be in QB hell like the Jags or Browns having to draft a QB every 2 or 3 years. I won't be mad if we get Sewell just don't think it's the smartest play. Let a team thirsty for a LT trade away their draft.

I cannot stress this enough STOP POSTING CBS SPORTS MOCK DRAFTS! They’re clickbait bullshit and that’s it. All of them, but especially that dude is a fucking joke. I still stand by my opinion that some of their writers take under the table payments from agents to rank undergrads higher than deserved to help sway them into declaring. The past few years they’ve done that and once the deadline comes all of the sudden they have less juniors going in the last half of first.
https://heavy.com/sports/atlanta-falcons/making-sense-of-matt-ryan-trade/ The Falcons have a brand new coaching staff under Arthur Smith which means a drastic rebuilding phase is in the near future and moving on from longtime quarterback Matt Ryan, sooner rather than later, could be a possibility. The Falcons have the No. 4 overall draft pick in April and this year’s draft class is stacked with talented quarterbacks, so it’s going to be tough for Atlanta to pass up a young 4th QB to rebuild around. Matt Ryan will be 36 this year but he still has plenty of juice left him for a fresh start elsewhere. Here’s the kicker, Atlanta won’t be able to trade Ryan until after June 1st, because if they do, it would cost more than $44 million in dead cap space. But after the first, it would be less than an $18 million cap hit. So, who is a potential shopper? Well, according to longtime Niners reporter, Grant Cohen, the 49ers are a possible fit for the veteran QB. But what exactly will it take for the 49ers to get Ryan to the Bay Area? Cohen dives in: So here’s what the 49ers can do. They can trade Jimmy Garoppoloback to the New England Patriots, draft the best offensive lineman available with their 2021 first-round pick, draft the best quarterback available with their 2021 second-round pick, and then in the summer trade their 2022 second-round pick to the Falcons for Ryan. And he would cost the 49ers $23 million in 2021 and $24 million in 2022. And then the young quarterback could take over as the starter in 2023. And if the 49ers want to get their 2022 first-round pick back, they always can trade Deebo Samuel for a No. 1 after next season. Ryan Would Reunite With Kyle Shanahan 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan doesn’t seem 100% sold on moving on from Jimmy G., but a shot at reuniting with Matt Ryan could change his mind. Shanahan was Atlanta’s OC in 2016 when Matt Ryan had his best season yet and won MVP while leading the Falcons to a Super Bowl (no need to recap). During that season, Ryan completed 69.9 percent of his passes for 4,944 yards, 38 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. FS1 analyst, Nick Wright of First Things First believes the Niners could get back on track of being Super Bowl contenders with Ryan under center. “If you’re the rest of the NFC”, Wright explained, “and San Francisco has a bit of a setback year, all of the injuries, Super Bowl hangover, Jimmy G doesn’t get better, and all of a sudden, it’s that system with [Nick Bosa] back from injury, Solomon Thomas back, and Matt Ryan with those guys, to me, San Francisco goes right back to where they were last year as the favorites in the NFC.” To end the 2020 season, Ryan threw for 4,582 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions compared to Garropolo who ended the season early with an ankle sprain throwing for 1,096 yards and seven touchdowns to five interceptions in six games.
