8. Atlanta Falcons: Malik Willis, QB, Liberty The Falcons are officially a rebuilding franchise, and the No. 1 priority in either this draft or next draft is to find the quarterback of the future. Next year’s quarterback class may be more promising, but this comes down to Atlanta’s projection of Willis. If the Falcons believe he can be a high-level quarterback, then they shouldn’t pass. 1 (8) Malik Willis, QB, Liberty 2 (43) Breece Hall, RB, Iowa State 2 (58) Nik Bonitto, Edge, Oklahoma 3 (74) Nick Cross, S, Maryland 3 (82) Khalil Shakir, WR, Boise State 4 (114) Daniel Bellinger, TE, San Diego State 5 (151) Tyreke Smith, Edge, Ohio State 6 (190) Charleston Rambo, WR, Miami (Fla.) 6 (213) Noah Elliss, DT, Idaho https://theathletic.com/3248022/202...2-nfl-dane-brugler?source=user-shared-article
i’d take hamilton because he seems like a lock to be really good and we are going to suck for years and years so nothing matters
Do we really think the team is much worse than last year? The only downgrade I see is Ryan to mariota, and I personally don’t think it’s a big downgrade. We almost made the playoffs last year with basically the same squad. It’s not that hard to find a russel gage level receiver which is what we were working with
I'd be happy with Hamilton too as a player, the only problem I see with that is the extension down the road. With Fitts last year and then Hamilton here, assuming both stay past their rookie deals you're committing big money to 2 positions that typically don't see that kind of investment. They'd both have to be top 3-5 at their position to justify that, and where are they gonna save to justify those deals? It's not like the Falcons have great team friendly deals elsewhere
Where are we worse? We’re better at corner. Maybe downgrade at lb from foye, but Evans and Jones are capable of playing good football Oline can’t possibly be worse Year 2 pitts We were shit at wr last year too Rb is the same plus Williams which is an upgrade. It’s not like Fowler and and Harmon were stars at their positions we have a solid draft, and we are still competing for a wild card spot
Take off the homer goggles man, see the world for what it is. The team last year was way worse than the 7 wins it actually achieved. The Falcons were bottom of the barrel in pretty much every advanced stat and had the Pythagorean rating of a 5 win team. Now you think that team, which is in cap hell and just traded its starting QB for a guy who hasn't been a starter in 2.5 years, is gonna make the playoffs? Brady is back, there's an incredible QB class in the next draft, and we have $60m of dead money on the books. There is every incentive to take our lumps and build for the future next season.
There are maybe 7 good teams in the nfc. We play the panthers and the saints twice. Injuries are going to happen and ruin seasons. One of the least talented teams I’ve ever seen won 7 games last year, and they are better this year. We have a bunch of veterans trying to prove it and earn bigger contracts. Yes I think the falcons have a shot at a wild card spot. should they try and tank for a qb? Yea probably, but these are professional athletes, they aren’t going to lose on purpose. Might as well hope for the best. We’ve been rooting to tank for fucking years. Hell, I'm pretty sure we were rooting for the tank the year we made the super bowl. Rooting to tank is fucking boring also Matt Ryan sucks. Idk what this revisionist history is lately that he’s some dude that can’t be replaced
Going QB and then RB when we had a historically bad pass rush and OL last year should get people thrown in jail or the ocean. first 5 picks should be some combo of Defense plus an OL and WR somewhere in there.
…yes, but in spite of that the team hasn’t actually embraced the tank and instead has tried to compete. How’s that been working out the last 5 years?
Shit regime that got replaced and put together a competitive team… they are now in year 2. Pitts will be better in year 2, we’ll hopefully bring in some good rookies, and I’m really optimistic of what Arthur smith can do as he gains more confidence. Figuring out how to make CP a star was something no one else could figure out. man are you just bummed out all the time? This year doesn’t matter, just watch a team with nothing to lose try their best and have fun. We’ll have a shit load of cap space next year to go shopping. Drafting qbs is a crap shoot anyway
I’m not bummed out at all lol. You can have realistic expectations and also be excited for the future, it’s not some impossible concept. What is pretty much impossible though is competing for the playoffs with $60m in dead cap
All I’m saying is I currently think the team is better than it was last year. We do not have the worst roster in the nfl right now. We will finish somewhere around 7 or 8 wins. Draft qb this year in the second or trade back into first, and go be legends with nothing to lose
Amen. I’m sick of losing but we need high draft picks way more and it’s the fastest way to rebuild with our cap issues. Lose every game next year and I will cheer my head off.
We had zero starting caliber receivers last year and won 7 games… Whatever, you guys enjoy rooting for a losing season again. I think we are handling the rebuild the right way. Only 3 of the teams in the playoffs last year have a qb drafted in the top 5. Stafford was acquired via trade. You don’t need a top 5 pick to get better, you just need your picks to hit.
I’d love to see the falcon’s draft well but I’m not counting on it, this franchise displays their incompetence yearly and it’s spans multiple administrations
if Malik Willis and Drake London are the names, then we are doomed. Convinced Mckay is the worst President in Pro Sports.
Trade anyone with any value other than Pitts and tank for Bryce. I was all for trying to win when we still had Matt, Julio, Ridley etc, but a Mariotta lead team winning 8 games this year would be a god damned disaster.
It'd be nice to trade down for more picks and still get Jordan Davis. Not that we need a DLineman or anything
