the NBA one is spot on with him.
Do you let your grandma hold your kids?
Are you Latino? Is she? What’s the big deal of allowing her to continue a tradition from her childhood? It’s not like she wants you to change everything. She just wants to give you kids gifts.
Always fun when this happens
My grandma wants my kids to open presents a day early wow what a cunt
Is it not normal/common to open some presents the night before and then the majority on Christmas Day?
That was the case for literally everyone I knew growing up.
Grandma would rent a community center for Xmas eve dinner. Gifts were exchanged and opened.
Firmly team grandma here.
There’s gotta be more to the story
Neighbor across the street came over this morning with presents for our kids. I told her to walk her ass back across the street with those presents...the fucking audacity to ask for the kids to open presents today and not tomorrow.
I would assume so based on previous posts but we’re all waiting to find out Bruce Wayne
It reeks of estrogen if you ask me. This is higher level women shit. Not sure a I heard one time in my life when a guy was mad about an opening a present.
Bruce Wayne to his Grandma.
Only presents I ever got to open early were when my mother's side of the family gathered at her parents' house on Christmas Eve. Would have done the same with my dad's sad of the family but we went to his parents on Christmas day.
My side are just habitual line-steppers as I've documented elsewhere. Healthy boundaries don't exist to them so if we dare not go along with everything they want us to do then we're all of sudden the bad people.
My wife never did it growing up and she didn't want to start doing it for our kids for whatever reason so when I was asked I said no.
batman has never been known for his emotional intelligence folks
Never had to navigate holidays with family either
I did not exactly grow up in an economically booming area - but pretty much everyone got 1-3 presents the night before and then the rest on Christmas Day.
Ahh, so you're wife just decided her family traditions are more important than yours. Mine does that, too.
I often get overwhelmed and stressed during the holidays. Pleasing your whole extended family along with keeping the Christmas magic alive for young children can be really difficult. Sometimes I allow that stress to boil over into monotonous things like that. I feel like that could be what’s going on here.
I mean I get what you're saying but I feel like this is you being very stubborn about something silly. We rarely opened presents on Christmas Eve but have before and it's not a big deal to me either way.
And as a quasi-update to my stuff on the private board, things between my wife and family degraded to the point where our therapist is recommending we cut off all contact with them so I'm just thankful that I'm at least getting them in the same room for more than 5 minutes tonight
We always opened 1-2 the night before. It was usually pajamas or blankets or something related to sleeping that night.
Best of luck man
Hopefully you can understand why we were piling on without knowing the context
Best of luck man
My FIL just argued for 90 seconds that “mean,” as in the math term, was spelled meen so he could play it as a word on scrabble. Was very satisfying for him to find out he was terribly wrong.
that’s the extent of the drama
No worries friend
my wife is Mexican, my son-in-law and daughter-in-law are Latino. They all celebrate the 24 and give out the gifts at midnight. That’s why I asked Bruce Wayne if his grandma was Latina. Letting her give the kids their gifts on the 24th because that’s a tradition of hers seems like a tiny thing. I said it a while ago itt but I think sometimes we’re the assholes.
Bruce when he finds out that there’s no gifts for the kids to open on Christmas morning:
Try to flip this into a "birds aren't real" conversation.
A real piece of shit.
They can’t stop you from order a steak and a glass of water and slopping it up
I have an awful/crazy aunt (uncles recent 2nd wife) who claims to be allergic to garlic. I always cook the meat and make sure to “forget” about her “allergy”. Reactions range from rinsing off a steak in the sink to storming out of the room.
Just tried to tell me “amend” has two Ms in it
I don’t think he’s cheating/arguing, I just think he’s dumb.
Or thinks you are.
I don’t have kids, but holidays can still be stressful as fuck for a variety of reasons. Thank god for weed gummies.
Oh I’m aware
fake allergies drive me insane when you're cooking for people
friend is "allergic" to fish, but quite regularly eats certain fish dishes and obviously just has a learned taste aversion to certain kinds
While not food related
At least 80% of old southern women are allergic to cats
yeah people who are allergic to certain pets but in no way actually allergic also sucks
That's the move I would go with that information as well, completely ignoring it.
"Guess you're not eating!"
I think your aunt might be a vampire
Sister nug has decided she's gluten free again. I was cooking seafood linguini for everyone and said OK, you need to go get your own ingredients because I've already bought everything. Surprisingly this went OK.
She then proceeded to cook her lentil pasta with butter. Had bread with dinner. Also a beer.
Nothing to add really, aside from I'm doing too much. I cooked breakfast (minus biscuits - mom brought those, thankfully) for 16 this morning and I'm currently cooking a rib roast and about to hot smoke some salmon. already smoked a pork butt to accompany everything for tonight on Wednesday.
I made a lemon caper dill sauce and a horseradish creme fraiche and pickled red onions a moment ago.
I only got 5 hours of sleep last night. I guess I'm ranting about myself here. All in the name of not eating another fucking ham.
I’m ready for the eggnog to start flowing and for this thread to get really good.
You gotta try and eat it real fast before they kick you out
So random. I wish we had video for the Karen thread.
Edible has been consumed. I'll see you all on the other side
