Welcome to this year’s version of the superior fantasy sport thread. How’s everyone feeling this year? Any round 1/2 guys you’re avoiding? Any keeper questions? Anyone want to laugh at the simpletons playing fantasy football exclusively?

I started listening to Fangraph's Fantasy Baseball podcast and its by far the best one I have found. I think I have legit gotten worse the last couple of years because I couldn't stand Karabel on ESPN and stopped listening to any Fantasy pods. I feel a lot better this year.

    Players I am targeting:

    Whit Merrifield
    Matt Olson
    Kershaw
    Scooter Gennet
    Bellinger
    Odor

    Players I am avoiding:
    Kluber
    Matt Carpenter
    Vlad Jr

I’m in a twelve team 6x6 AL only keeper where you keep 5 MLB and 4 minors. 3 year contracts. Snake draft, non auction. I also have the first pick, so will prob go with Jose Ramirez regardless of whether Harper or Machado land in the AL. Bregman is probably next best available after Ramirez.

    I’ll keep:

    3B Chapman
    OF Castellanos
    SP Sale
    SP Cole
    SP Paxton

    Adell
    Kiriloff
    Madrigal (or Kopech)
    Luzardo

Might do an NFBC draft again but not sure yet

He is going in the third round or later and ranked as the 8-9th pitcher by a lot of people, so its actually not a "duh".

Top tier I know I can nab

    Eduardo Escobar
    Lowrie

Come draft day I imagine their adp will rise significantly but I'll grab them where it's fair.

    Brantley
    Pollock
Scooter (can't believe he is so low)
    Puig

My list of players that I will avoid would cause carpel tunnel.

I’ve started prep about 2 weeks ago so I’ll post by position. Other guy I forgot that I will own in every league is Willians Astudilla.

Agreed on Vlad Jr. His ADP+the Blue Jays being wishy washy on when he’ll debut keeps him off my board

Need to keep 2 SP in my dynasty this year. Buehler is a no brainer, then I’m leaning Flaherty over Paxon/Taillon mostly due to age and expected growth. Convince me otherwise.

In a head to head I would maybe think about taking him, but his ADP he would almost have to perform like Arenado for the time he does play to justify it.

keepers for me this year (round):

    springer (17)
    benintendi (23)
    muncy (24)
    tatis jr (25)

75% of the top 50 are keepers, I’m a little worried about being the 10th pick out of 12

Guys I'm high on compared to ADP:

    Scooter Gannett
    Anthony Rendon
    Rhys Hoskins
    Matt Carpenter
    Zack Greinke
    Walker Buehler

    Guys I'm avoiding:
    Francisco Lindor
    Alex Bregman
Clayton Kershaw (unless he reallllllllly slides)
    Adalberto Mondesi
    Vlad Jr.
    Joey Votto
    All Closers

Preface, Rankings are kind of specific to my league (PA, R, HR, RBI, AVG, OPS, NSB, K's) . I try to call out why, but not applicable in all cases. Sometimes I just don't like a dude and I always like to rank as if the bottom falls out on me. Top half is generally easy but I try to manage the drop offs when the top tier is gone. 9/10 I am best when I wait things out in that case.

    Catcher:
Position reminds me of SS before we got reloaded there. It's a barren shit show and people still pay through their nose for nothing. I just don't see a scenario where even Realmuto is worth it. Give me Astudillo's fat body all day. In one league PA and K's against make him valuable at the position. In another, not so much but I'm not paying for a catcher so here we go.

    1B:
If I am touching the top tier they usually have some additional positional eligibility. Mainly looking for insane value vs. ADP here typically from the 10th round on in a 12 team.

Shaw (Pretty sure he will fall below 120 unless he hits like 19 homers in ST)
Muncy (No clue why he is this low)
Hosmer (Highly unlikely he lands on my roster but would be nice with Manny)
Martinez (A case of Goldy stealing some projected PA, can't see a way they keep him out of the lineup, all his splits pass the sniff test)
Marwin (Depending on where he lands)

Hate: Astros situation because of platoon but could very well end up with whomever shakes out and gets 95% of the PA in that lineup. Any Astro insights will be appreciated.

    2B Not touching:
Baez (More that I like others in this area and simply not as high on him as others)
    Murphy
    Carpenter
    Gordon
    Odor

    Like:
    Scooter
    Cano
    Profar
Lowrie (ADP has a complete lack of respect for him)

    SS:
Not much to hate here and won't repeat myself on the guys you've already seen listed. So my like list.
    Correa (I'll take the discount)
    Seager (Ditto)
    Peraza
    Simmons
    Escobar

    Position is so deep now.

    3B:
    Not touching:
    Bryant
    Turner
    Donaldson
    Devers

    Like:
    Vlad
    Andujar
    Chapman
    Gurriel

OF: In both my leagues they are broken out by position, but with all the shuffling that happens it doesn't really matter much.
    Not touching:
Acuna (More that I like others in this area, won't roster him)
    Soto (Ditto)
    Marte (Lineup)
Ozuna (Probably the most frustrating player I ever owned)
    Upton
    Pham
    Myers
    Dahl
    Schwarber
    Hamilton
    Braun
Bader (Takes me through top 50 ADP)

    Like:
    Cain
    Rosario
    Haniger
Pollock (I anticipate his price is going to be too steep draft day)
    Puig
    Brantley (Best value)
Mallex (Injury and Mariners really holding him back, if he was healthy and on the Rays he would probably not be worth it)
Peralta (Keeps quietly getting significantly better)
Robles (We seem to have like 4 HOF rookies every year, why not?)
    Mazara (Just needs health)
    Eaton (Same)
    Edit:
Markakis (ADP shitting on him worse than Lowrie. Not the flashiest but he's in the exact same situation, lineup, etc. I realize he is 35 but I don't think there is any risk profile here)

I will work through SP and RP today.

Just reactivated our league this morning #blessed.

We typically do a slightly modified H-2-H Most Categories (where its a match-up each week and whoever wins the most categories wins that week), but potentially looking to change things up a bit this year. Anyone else who does categories, what categories do you do? Also, has anyone done fantasy baseball w/ points scoring?

    For categories I like
R HR RBI SB-CS and either OBP/OPS...I think OBP because OPS rewards power too much when you already have hr/rbi

    QS SV+HLD-BS ERA WHIP K9

Been using this for years in a H2H, non points.

R, HR, RBI, AVG, OPS, NSB, K, PA (Idea here was to try to make some top of the order guys more valuable and not isolate power. The K's and PA really help provide some value to those guys.)

IP, QS, K, SV, H, ERA, WHIP, L (I really hate losses but min 50 IP per week means a lot of SP are owned. Helps to balance out against the guy who just wants to take IP/K weekly. I'd much rather have net quality starts)

Im at a crossroads in my league right now. I have some pitching talent but with the yearly penalty increase of 4 bucks of auction value its getting expensive. Id like to keep 3 pitchers because my other 5 keepers are all position players. Kluber-49, verlander-25, paxton-12, martinez-10, luzardo-4, sheffield-4, mckenzie-4 and whitley-4
    Any thoughts?

I'm having buyers remorse. In a 10 team keeper league (up to 8 keepers I traded away Kluber for Realmuto. If it helps, I still have Snell, Flaherty, Clevinger and Carmart to pick from for SP keepers still.

We do 10x9 with H, R, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, BB, TB, AVG, SB, and then K, K/9, ERA, WHIP, W, QS, SV, CG, BAA. It's weird but we started the league in college and the commish hates change unless it's his idea. Pitching is much less valuable but at this point I don't think I could go back to a normal 5x5 league.

    Must keep 3 hitters (BA - HR - RBI - R - SB - BB)

    Bellinger
    Albies
    Bregman
    Benintendi
    Acuna
    Soto
    Springer
    Torres

    Must keep 2 pitchers (W - QS - ERA - SV - K/9 - K/BB)

    Buehler
    Kershaw
    Bauer
    Folty
    Flaherty
    Treinen

Current theory is Bregman, Acuna, Soto, Bauer and Buehler. I don't know what to do with Kershaw, and I'm kind of confused as to why some rankings don't love Soto. I could probably talk myself into Benintendi, Albies or Torres there on the right day.

I think I'd sub out Benintendi for Soto, primarily due to steals upside. If you wanted to debate Soto or Bregman as the 3rd keeper it'd be a tough call. But Benintendi/Acuna are floor 20/20 types IYAM ...

I wish Soto had a longer minor league track record to ease my concerns a bit, but with BB as a category I think it kind of seals it for me over Benintendi.
