Not sure if it's too early for this, but I figure there has got to be other people interested in talking fantasy football. I'll post some links to mock drafts, rankings, etc.

What, if any, is the best resource you've used to prepare for a draft?

The best one I've found and use religously, is fantasyguru.com, it's not free...but it's got a lot of great info on there, and they are pretty accurate.

    Man, this place is dead.

Did two mock drafts last night. Any thoughts, criticisms, suggestions would be appreciated. Both drafts were for a 12-team league. In the first draft, I picked eighth; in the second, I picked second.

    First
    1. Tom Brady (NE - QB)
    2. DeMarco Murray (Dal - RB)
    3. A.J. Green (Cin - WR)
    4. Steve Smith (Car - WR)
    5. Willis McGahee (Den - RB)
    6. Jermichael Finley (GB - TE)
    7. Nate Washington (Ten - WR)
    8. Denarius Moore (Oak - WR)
    9. Robert Griffin III (Was - QB)
    10. Greg Little (Cle - WR)
    11. Mark Ingram (NO - RB)
    12. Ryan Williams (Ari - RB)
    13. New York (NYG - DEF)
    14. Felix Jones (Dal - RB)
    15. Matt Prater (Den - K)

    Second
    1. Arian Foster (Hou - RB)
    2. DeMarco Murray (Dal - RB)
    3. Julio Jones (Atl - WR)
    4. Marques Colston (NO - WR)
    5. Michael Vick (Phi - QB)
    6. DeSean Jackson (Phi - WR)
    7. Willis McGahee (Den - RB)
    8. Nate Washington (Ten - WR)
    9. Jermaine Gresham (Cin - TE)
    10. Ben Tate (Hou - RB)
    11. Philadelphia (Phi - DEF)
    12. Felix Jones (Dal - RB)

2nd team is pretty good, Willis in the 7th is a very solid pick. Very weak at QB when Vick goes down, but could worry about later- can usually find a WW pickup against a weak D to carry you for a couple weeks.

What's your philosophy on handcuffing running backs? I managed to handcuff both Foster and Murray in the second draft, but I'm not sure if that's necessary or overkill.

Eh, it's a risk / reward type situation. Foster is a good one to handcuff because Tate is damn good also. I normally just pick the best player and play it by ear- if you get someone else's handcuff and their player goes down you can normally flip him for an upgrade somewhere else, or use as the flex for those weeks. If it's a toss up between a few similar players and the handcuff is there take them- but I won't go out of my way to get one. I might be in the minority there.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I think moving forward I'm going to target the handcuff of my best back, if that player is a legit handcuff.

That's sort of my plan as well, especially with how the league has changed to pretty much every team running multiple back backfields, quite a few have 3 guys who will see carries. Try to work the waiver wire and find the hot hand / matchups and you'll probably do better than stacking the team with handcuffs. I find that I normally release those guys early when a top WR goes down and I need a replacement or a Victor Cruz type player pops up and I have to put a claim in even when I don't really have someone I want to drop.

Only points as in only TDs, or only points as in total points- non head to head?

You only score points if your players scores. A RB with 200 rushing yards and 1 td will get you 6 points for the day. This is the oldest FF league in Little Rock, it's been a $500 buy in since 1983(I think that's when it started) and they will not change it up. I was lucky to get on a team. It's more for the connections of the people in it than anything.

Nope never done one of those- but sounds like a little more luck than other formats. I'd try to stick to the teams that score a lot, and avoid the bad teams like the plague (obvious hippo is obvious). I'm assuming QB's would be at a premium- I'd also put the top tier TEs at a premium as well. You know Graham and Gronk are going to score some TDs pretty consistently.

My team came in 3rd last year and got our money back, so I have a little understanding of how this style works, just wondering if anyone else has played it. QB's are good, but kickers can win you games. Our avg score for a week is aroundd 40 pts.

Some dude on the Rivals Board (yes, I lurk there every once and a while) just posted this excel cheat sheet. It's pretty remarkable:

    Here are his instructions:
    Cheat Sheet

    Pretty nice spreadsheet.

We got the draft order in one of my leagues, draft isn't until labor day and it's PPR. I'm the 10th pick.

The true top end talent is going to be gone, I'm assuming the top 4 QBs are gone, Calvin gone, and Rice, Foster, McCoy, probably MJD.

We run 1 TE, and 1 Flex like most leagues and I'm contemplating taking Gronk & Graham. They are 2 of the most consistent FF guys- and if they stay healthy will both put up a lot of points. My logic is the next tier of RBs while good all have some issue, and it'd be too early for the # 5 QB, or # 2 WR. On the come back I could pick up a WR / RB - Some one like Welker/Cruz/Nelson, a RB- Charles/Peterson/FJax/SJax... then on the next come back get a QB Romo/Ryan/Rivers/Eli- another RB- BJGE/Gore/Bradshaw. It's still early and a lot could change.

    I'm thinking a lineup of:

    Rivers
    Peterson/Charles
    BJGE/Bradshaw
    Welker/Nelson
    Random good match-up guy
    Graham
    Gronk

Would be very solid.... and it would mess up everyone else's draft strategy- and worst case I trade one of the top TEs if I needed. Once it gets closer I'm going to have to do the point projections and see if it would give me more points to do that or just get one of those guys.

Damn, that's sounds like a plan.

I'm in a pay league and for whatever reason, I'm always in the middle to back of the draft order for this league. It never fails. I usually can't ever decide, good(not elite) RB or good(not elite) QB. Every fucking year, never fails. Makes me rage.

That's a legit option though if I'm last in the draft. The snake would be crucial to snag the two best TE's in the league just throw people into a :ohshit: moment

Yup, not only do I get the points from that- but I'm taking away one of the two from another team. I'm sort of forcing them all the slide down the TE ranks by 1. I've been trying to talk myself out of it, but the more I look at the rankings / cheat sheets- It's sounding more and more solid. I can field a solid team outside of TEs in the rest of the draft. You can always find a WR to get points in the mid/lat rounds/waiver wire- and stack up on mid tier RBs and you'll be fine.

Yea, I agree. I also think you can usually pick up a solid QB later than most think. That's what I usually do if I have an early pick. I'll take a RB if it's a top 3-4 pick, or QB if its 4-6 pick. Usually if I go RB I'll wait awhile to get a QB, just load up everywhere else.

Graham and Gronk would be nasty as long as they both stay healthy. If one goes down, you're fucked.

I was thinking about that also, but I believe I would be less fucked than if I used it on lets say McFadden and he gets hurt for the entire year. If I went McFadden, or another higher tier RB- I'm less likely to stock up on mid tier talent in the middle rounds (I'd probably go more WR, or even another TE there). By taking Gronk / Graham I'm actually forcing myself to be deeper at RB- which if one of the TEs does go down I'd be able to slide in a RB to the flex position. Whereas if I went RB/Graham and RB went down I'd be in the same boat but either WR or lesser TE to flex in.

Frank Gore might lose some carries this season with Jacobs and those others.

Shon Greene should get more carries, but could lose goal line carries to fucking Tebow.

Ingram gonna stay healthy? Get more carries?

Wonder if Julio takes anything away from White? I know the Coons will be throwing a lot more under the new OC.

Went with Ingram just because he was best available RB at that time.

Gore, when I took him only other choices were Michael Turner and Trent Richardson. Turner has looked like shit this preseason and Trent just had his knee looked at or scoped so I stayed away. :idk:

Had Greene last year in Dawgzy league, but he sucked. Hope maybe he does a little better.

Seriously debated taking Julio over Roddy. Hope I made the right choice.

I have a feeling Ingram will have a much better year- it's so hard to predict because of all the weapons in that backfield- but if he stays healthy he could be the goal line, and pound it out with the lead guy. Get a lot of cheap yards at the end of games, and quite a few touchdowns. Could also have games where he gets 2 points. If Pierre were to get injured though I'd imagine Ingram get a much bigger role.

Yea true, but they've still got Sproles taking some carries and is Ivory still there?

That along with Brees' passing just scares me. I had Ingram last year as my 4-5th option and really never played him. :idk:

I still take Richardson over Gore. Richardson is going to get 20-25 carries a game, no question.

Ivory is still there but fighting with another guy for the # 4 spot, this Cadet kid has some skill and is trying very hard to make the team.

I like Ivory. Had him 2 years ago and he helped me to the finals in a run with the craziest make shift team I've ever had.

    Maybe Ingram blows up :idk:

okay i have first pick in a 10team ppr league...really torn with what i should do. draft is later this week. leaning towards rodgers, but i'm a texans fan so having foster would be cool too.

here's the scoring for our league:

    Offense League Value

Passing Yards 20 yards per point; 5 points at 300 yards
    Passing Touchdowns 8
    Interceptions -2
Rushing Yards 10 yards per point; 5 points at 100 yards
    Rushing Touchdowns 8
    Receptions 1
Reception Yards 10 yards per point; 5 points at 150 yards
    Reception Touchdowns 8
    Return Touchdowns 10
    2-Point Conversions 2
    Fumbles -2
    40+ Yard Rushing Touchdowns 10
    40+ Yard Reception Touchdowns 10

That's strange scoring- Neither pick would be bad so go with who you want to watch play. With 10 teams you should be able to still get a pretty solid 2nd tier QB.
