My friend started a fantasy hockey league for shits and giggles and our draft is tonight. I'm a Red Wing fan, but not really a huge hockey guy. Thus, I know a lot of Western Conference guys, but beyond the first 5-7 rounds tonight I'm probably going to be in some trouble.

Anyone have anything for me? Sleepers to look for? Strategies? Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I already know that I have the #2 pick. Ovechkin is almost certain to go #1 unless the guy in front of me is a bigger idiot that I think he is.

Is Malkin the clear #2 guy?

My 10-team roster looks like this:

    F Evgeni Malkin, Pit F
    F Rick Nash, Cls F
    F Dany Heatley, SJ F
    F Patrick Marleau, SJ F
    F Simon Gagne, Phi F
F Vincent Lecavalier, TB F DTD
    F Patrick Sharp, Chi F
    F Steven Stamkos, TB F
    F Milan Michalek, Ott F
    D Chris Pronger, Phi D
    D Duncan Keith, Chi D
    D Kimmo Timonen, Phi D
    D Marek Zidlicky, Min D
    D Brian Campbell, Chi D
    UTIL Owen Nolan, Min F
    G Roberto Luongo, Van G
    G Craig Anderson, Col G
    Bench Jordan Staal, Pit F
    Bench Ed Jovanovski, Pho D
    Bench Saku Koivu, Ana F
    Bench Alexander Frolov, LA F
    Bench Miikka Kiprusoff, Cgy G

I have no idea what any of it means, but I'm okay with how things played out. I only have a few guys I've never heard of before. It looks like my defense is solid, at least. I don't really get the whole +/- thing. It seems like that moves around from year-to-year.

ok find room for frolov on ur team...move kiprusoff in for anderson( kip is one of leagues best goalies) and +/- is when your on the ice for a goal scored by your team you get plus 1...and when your on the ice for a goal scored against you its -1. but a solid team overall... also replace owen nolan for jordan stall....JMHO.

I knew what +/- is. Just wasn't sure how to gauge it in a fantasy league because I would think it's a) hard to predict; and b) hard to judge how one or two bad ratings would hurt your overall team.

Kiprusoff was a weird one, because ESPN has him ranked really low because they say his GAA and save % are low. I kind of panicked when I took Anderson because I didn't see anyone else I wanted and had one goalie.

Like I said, for my overall knowledge of the players in the league, I'm pretty happy with the squad. Hopeful that my two guys with the Lightning step it up and have big years as sleeper guys in the middle rounds.
