Girlfriend's dad made me, girlfriend, her sister and grandparents all listen to three different Foreigner songs at the dinner table because nobody expect for me(sick brag, I know) knew who they were. Probably a top 5 most uncomfortable moment in my life.
That’s coming up again? That is now my yearly marker. Time flies. From start to finish, how much do you/wife pay in total for this tortious tradition?
$1000 for our portion of the Condo Probably $200 or so in gas to drive from PA Meals all week since they insist on eating out every meal (which is probably part of the reason he is in this condition). Maybe $1500 ??? not profit
My FIL took my mower to the shop for me but hasn’t returned my ratchet straps. That’s all I got, he’s a pretty cool guy. Keep the shitty stories coming though. TIA
How in the world do you eat out every meal for a week for $300? Especially at the beach where even chain food is incredibly overpriced?
He drops $1k on lodging. He is obviously north of $2k on the trip but I can’t imagine he wants to accept that. I’m tempted to reiterate the various trips him and his wife can take for $2k but that is just mean.
That makes more sense. Read it as $1500 total with $1200 for lodging and gas. I would simply refuse that bullshit.
So I love my fil and my mil left the coffee maker in between the cabinet and the slide out in his camper, he puts the slide in to start packing up to leave from the lake. Obviously if you know how these things work it destroyed all of the cabinets and the coffee maker. I ask where he is once the dust settles and he is just kicking the shit out of the back of the camper cussing like a sailor. I just hand him a hammer and say fuck this shit. It was a hardy lol
I have fun because I’m not working and I’m with my wife and daughter. I would much rather take her to Dinsey or somewhere else though. This trip has handcuffed me for years because I was limited on time off from work and then can’t price in a 2nd vacation. Much for flexible with job and money now but I don’t think I’m ever winning this battle.
My FIL and his wife are moving to Clearwater Beach and are currently renting short-term in Philadelphia (wife is finishing up a few things before retirement). They have two dogs and she brought them into work. She wanted to the gym after work and asked my FIL if he could drive 90 minutes round-trip to pick up the dogs. He made the drive.
Update We were considering boarding our dog for a week that would have cost a few hundred. My mom for once had a good idea and said she would house/dog sit for us. Trouble is she lives in GA but works from home. Long story short I was able to find airline tickets on both ends where we take similar reverse flights and can just swap cars for the week. Then when I come back she will visit for the weekend. Fucking genius. No rental car no long car ride no dog boarding fees. I just told my FIL and it was so hard not to smile. Told him he could cancel the one hotel room he was going to cover for us with points too. He barely said a word.
Story time... So my FIL and MIL are HUGE Jesus freaks. Always talking about the church and how powerful Christ in your life can be. I always put Fox News on when they come over. Anyways we're getting the kid's dinner together (ages 1,2,3) and all of the sudden a report about the kids getting raped by priests comes on the TV. I'm usually really quick to change the channel for the kids if something inappropriate comes on but they're too young to understand and I really wanted to watch my FIL and MIL squirm with a uncomfortable story about the church. So the news story starts and you could immediately tell they tried to act busy working on the dinner but there is no sound in the house except for the loud TV. The reporting turns graphic describing what these priests were doing. It went on for the world's longest 1 minute when all the sudden you hear "the 8 year old boy said the priest put the boy's penis in his mouth". "WOAAAAHHHHH!!!!" I shouted. I quickly turned the channel. My parents in law were mortified. I felt a little bad.
Are they equally as mortified about you not having a swimming pool for their daughter and grand babies to frolic in?
BIL took my FIL to Europe for a trip. Didn't exchange dollars for Euros but at least he forgot his PIN number so he couldn't use the ATM. Took forever to get through security screener at the Eiffel Tower because his pockets were full of fucking US coins and his keys to his pickup that's parked literally 5k miles away. Eagerly awaiting more updates from my BIL.
FIL is rehabbing after his open heart surgery. I’m happy he’s getting exercise but they are working him over pretty hard. Never so much as walked to exercise and now he goes 3x a week and for about an hour he gets his ass kicked. I enjoy asking him how it goes. He’s also all of a sudden a label reader for nutrition. The pure amazement at how much sugar was in soda had to be worse than finding out there is no Santa.
Asked my GF's father for permission to marry his youngest daughter this past Saturday. He didn't say no. He didn't say yes. He made an odd noise, said I caught him off guard, and then said "we've been waiting for you to do that." He then made a few comments about her needing a "lion tamer," we made some small talk, and we walked back inside without even so much as a handshake. On balance, I interpret it as him granting permission. Thoroughly uneventful, slightly odd, and I imagine will lead to more posts ITT.
I understand asking permission is courteous and traditional, but if he had said no would you have broken up with her?
Her own father warned you not to marry her. Congrats and best wishes on your impending doom, I mean nuptials.
