My FIL told my BIL when he asked for his blessing, ‘you sure you want to do that Dan?’ My wife is this sisters twin, she’s the calmer of the two, but I got a, ‘OZ, you do know that marriage is a lot of work, right?’ They live a long ways away so i invited her mom too, she was crying while he said that. I very much enjoy the story now, scared the shit out of me at the time.
When my BIL talked to my stepfather about marrying my sister he got, “She’s very demanding, but as long as you know what you’re getting into...” They've made it 8 years so far and he seems like he does ok with her. He has my respect.
New story. My SIL moved yet again and I had to drive 2 hours to help move. My FIL helped arrange for a UHaul and pick it up. Huge clusterfuck. Gets a call the day before that it would be a different location. He bitches because it’s farther and gets a few miles credit. Shows up 9:30 and they said it wouldn’t be back until 10:30. According to him he cursed this kid out and damn near killed him. I am tempted to call and get the security tape because he is the most passive aggressive person I know and I call bullshit on his entire story. Probably wrote a nice letter to corporate though.
Always pay with a credit card for that. It’s idiotic to pay that much without receiving points or cash back.

FIL was already asking about Myrtle Beach next year. Earliest ever. I said we are considering Disney and know that they are at a point where they could still enjoy it. He didn’t even entertain the idea. MIL prefers the beach. End of conversation. He controls everything.
We went to the Aviation Museum in VA Beach today so my niece could see Santa fly in. They had an exhibition of toy trains and my immediate reaction was remembering this post and thinking to myself “I bet GFA’s FIL would love this shit”. I spend too much time on TMB.
We built a house about 1/2 mile from them. So yes. Actually this was the first Thanksgiving we hosted and didn’t drive all over. His mom recently passed and my MIL chose to not go to her family. New traditions!
Haha. He did say he will absolutely be flying this year. First time ever. I almost committed on the spot but I didn’t want to show weakness. Edit add on. Told my wife we should buy their plane tickets for Christmas so they can’t back out.
My wife is from a tiny town is GA. First time I went to her parents house was last Christmas. I started asking about the town and the area, just bc I was curious and really needed to make conversation. Well next thing I know, my wife has a trunk full of books and magazines about the the town. I haven’t touched them, but I think I’m supposed to read them before we go back this Xmas.

As a small south Georgia town native, it's kinda funny how proud they are over some random ass history.
Father in law was so excited to take me and Mini Boom to some model train exhibit that was taking up space in a store that had gone out of business in the local mall. He spent at least 20 minutes talking to the guy about the trains and how his Mom threw away his trains when he went off to college.

My father-in-law insists upon shaking my hand every time I see him. With close to holiday crap going on I have seen him 5 times since Thursday. That is 5 handshakes in 3 days for someone I met 10 years ago and have seen weekly for 9 years. Someone shoot me please.
