I've yet to read where he made some changes to anything significant that was frowned upon. If you can point to that, I'd probably agree with you. Until then you're just fabricating something that didn't happen

for one, kslim is internetting way too hard today.

I went back to work, and would go to the hospital at night. My wife would go to he hospital daily. My fil had literally nothing to do during the week, so he would ask my wife what can be done around the house and he would just do shit all day bc I think he felt like it's all he could do.

that was the genesis of my fil doing "my" chores. Once our kid
Got home and things normalized of course I did the shit I needed to do around the house. The power washing example was a little hyperbolic...as what really happened was i was feeding my kid breakfast and he went out and power washed my patio I had power washed months prior. He just needed something to do.

I didn't go on a tangent. I said I can't possibly comprehend how letting a family member do you a willing favor makes you less of a man. People who believe in not taking favors from people close to them have some sort of psychological issue. It's absurd to be that way

My dad had a lot of Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam (101st Airborne). He did nothing about VA benefits until two years ago, when his non-VA doctor told him that the type of blood pressure symptoms he had were symptomatic of Agent Orange exposure and likely not family/weight/etc. related (my dad is in better shape than me).

He had just retired, so he had time on his hands and drove to the VA to get tested by their doctors. He figured that VA benefits might pay for the heart medication he takes for the symptoms.

He's getting $1,800 a month now for his exposure, on top of the medication, which is pretty damn good since he otherwise planned for retirement not expecting that money.

    Father-in-law Vietnam story:

My mother's side of the family are hunters, in particular her dad, who used to hunt just about everything that came into season. My dad's side of the family are city folk, and he's never hunted a thing in his life.

When my dad got back from his Vietnam Tour, which consisted of jumping out of helicopters and then shooting anything in the jungle that moved, he proposed to my mother. My grandfather (his FIL) thought it would be a great idea if the two of them went grouse hunting.

When you hunt grouse without a dog, you walk along until you "jump" a grouse, then shoot it when it flies away. Grouse will stay hidden and wait until you get right on top of them before they fly, surprising and scaring the shit out of you as their principal defense.

When my dad and grandfather jumped their first grouse, my dad reacted immediately and shot it about six inches off of the ground. At that close range, he blew the thing to pieces.

My grandfather told him nice shot and never went hunting with him again, scared of what else he might shoot.

On that topic I was at FILs one day and he offers me a beer. He then cracks one for himself and pours tomato juice in it to "prevent a hangover". I said I guess it would because I couldn't stomach drinking enough to get drunk off that. Wtf...NFB

speaking of vietnam vets, not FIL related,

had a patient who came to get treated from the VA because we were closer to his house for radiation, guy was this like 5' 100lb hillbilly looking guy, super nice and hilarious and always came with his like opposite friend (6' and 300lbs)

come to find out they live in trailers side by side on a plot of land they own and sit in their kitchens all day with the windows open shooting any animal that wanders by while they watch Fox News and talk to each other on walkie talkies while getting hammered. periodically going out and collecting the birds/squirrels/sometimes deer to cook.

couldn't decide if they were some modern day Brokeback guys or just what I aspire to in old age

    or both

There absolutely has to be some sort of back story that my wife and her sister aren't aware of (i.e. - maybe my FIL got busted cheating or something), but this one is pretty classic. I mentioned before my in-laws are decent folks and I get along with them very well. But to say they quirks is the understatement of the century. In fact, my wife suspects her mom has Asperger's. But anyway, one evening about 25 years ago before I met my wife, she and her family were having dinner together at home. At the end of the meal my MIL asks everyone what they want for dessert. My FIL says he'd like some ice cream, and my MIL apparently told him he shouldn't have any. He just blows his top (which is super odd for this guy) and yells, "FINE! I'LL NEVER EAT ICE CREAM AGAIN!!!!!"

I've known my wife for 23 years now, and you know what? That fucker refuses to eat ice cream to this day.
