Though understated, I think she is still a lovely duck.
Have you ever eaten Ptarmigan? When I was a kid, I was really into survival stories (Gary Paulsen, etc.). I remember reading about them being delicious and think about that a lot.
I have quite literally been waiting for this thread for a decade
Color me disappointed that the thread title wasn’t just a classic autocorrect mistake.
I’ve been to Chicken, AK. And Eagle, AK for that matter.
I cooked some not too long ago and it was amazing.
I like ducks so much I have a pond dedicated to ducks.
Last fall we had lots of ducks.
Right now we don’t have any ducks.
it’s a Muscovy
What brought you out there?
Thought I recognized that. Wes even asked you about it in the cooking thread.
Trip through BC, the Yukon, and Alaska. Started in Vancouver and finished in Anchorage.
I’ve always thought Florida should change theirs to the Florida Scrub Jay instead of the mockingbird, which so many states have as theirs.
Burrowing owl would be a good one. Or the iguana
Tennessee having the mockingbird is very appropriate though.
You have never seen a wood duck land. They come in like an f-16 with no landing gear down
Burrowing owl would be fine, actually. I like them, and I particularly like spotting them in neighborhoods where residents have to protect their front yard.
But, the Florida Scrub Jay is one of only a few endemic species in North America and has been native to only Florida for what is believed millions of years.
Most of the ducks I see around here are Muscovy ducks. They're ugly as fuck.
I also see lot of anhingas around here. On the bright side, there are a ton of cool birds in my neighborhood like sandhill cranes, white egrets, ibises, grey herons and blue herons, too.
Buffleheads come in faster than anything I’ve seen. You can literally hear them buzzing.
holy moly that’s a fast fucking duck
I meant to quote this
Shouldve swung over to Fairbanks before heading south through Denali to Anchorage. I was planning on driving to the Yukon on the top of the world highway before this whole covid thing happened.
Tbf I was just quoting Emma please misdirect your disrespect
Honorable mention Duck.
I know what it is
I googled “big ugly duck” and it was the first result
Muscovys are shit-tier ducks
This one looks like Paulie from The Sopranos
OG Aflac Duck
Same here, every time I sharpen my hatchet after diving into the lake my plane crashed in to get more supplies to build a fire.
Also not a duck
Rabbit or duck?
Good thread. Had ducks my whole childhood growing up, top notch birds. You really can't even express how superior ducks are to goose, who are in the lowest tier of all animals on planet earth.
Would agree with runner ducks.
Shots fired, Goose.
I saw some black ducks/fowl earlier in the year on a lake nearby and then a couple would occasional be on the pond in the early AM. Looking around, the could be American coots, which are more like water chickens, but idk, never saw them except for on the water and in flight. They don't look like Black Ducks.
American Black Duck:
Man, this is a great thread.
You're probably assuming he's a hedgehog. He gets that a lot
Big fan of shovelers
Arguably my favorite speculum, along with black ducks.
As far as challenging to shoot, anything that is small and arrives at about mach 2. Ring necks, buffleheads, teal.
And I'm sure all the duck hunters will agree that we all hate gadwalls. Non committing, teasing ass sons of bitches.
