OK here we go. August 23. Didnt see a thread for this.

Any optimism?? Will be interesting to see how the depict/explain how the population of zombies outnumbers the humans to the point where they just can't easily get rid of the zombies right when it starts. Appears from the trailer it stems from virus everyone gets and dies without being bitten etc. Which we kind of already knew ...but if that's the case why is it a surprise in the walking dead when they find out you don't have to be bitten to turn zombie?

Started off slow but was pleased with the last half hour. Other than the parents being literally pretty stupid.

So far, yes. That they've shown. They come back regardless of how they die.

Which is the one inconsistency between the two shows that is pretty blatant. Why in the original show they all think its from zombie bites. How would the communication of causation be so lacking

I thought it was pretty good for what it is. I think they had to spend time developing and introducing characters for the audience to invest in. The danger with this type of show is coming on the heels of a show where the characters in the original are well known and people are invested in their story line. (See CSI then all the spinoffs) Also this show promised to show the beginnings of the outbreak, so obviously they have to slow play that. On a side note, Kim Dickens could counsel me anytime.

when the son and the dealer first started fighting they were right up next to a wall, then the shot goes off and they are out in the open? Maybe I'm remembering wrong though.

Wasn't terrible. I lol'd when the daughter was waiting at the beach for her boyfriend and texting him:
    I'm here
    Where are you?
    You better be dead
    I'm leaving

Obvious "careful what you wish for" moment

What if an episode of The Walking Dead was set on a passenger airliner before civilization had fallen?

That’s basically what AMC is planning in a highly unusual — if not totally unprecedented — new special that’s set during the time period of the hit drama’s companion series, Fear the Walking Dead.

Here’s the plan: EW has exclusively learned AMC is producing a half-hour special that will tell a stand-alone story following a group of passengers facing a walker attack on an airline while in flight. One character who survives that encounter will then join the cast of Fear the Walking Dead in season 2. So, yes: Zombies on a Plane.

Previously, AMC has had stand-alone The Walking Dead online web series, but the network never used such content to introduce a new character before they joined the show. The airline attack story will debut online, and will unfold this in chapters that will air during Walking Dead’s on-air telecasts. In other words: You’re watching The Walking Dead, AMC cuts to commercial break, then you get a chapter in the as-yet-untitled stand-alone airline attack drama.

Beyond that, details are scarce. We assume the flight is headed to Los Angeles, since that’s the setting of Fear (L.A. residents, insert your LAX-is-already-run-by-zombies joke here). Our lingering questions: What’s the stand-alone content called? Who is the new character being introduced and who will play them? (Presumably AMC will be reluctant to release that because that would then reveal which passenger survives.) How many pieces of this interstitial will there be, and across how many Walking Dead episodes will it air?

A plane has been used as a setting for a zombie outbreak before, most memorably during a sequence in the otherwise lackluster World War Z. There was also a 2007 movie called Flight of the Living Dead (which also carried the subtitle Outbreak on a Plane for those who didn’t find Flight of the Living Dead clear enough). It will be intriguing to see how TWD’s team add new twists into that trapped-group premise. Producers of the special content include Dave Erickson and Fear co-executive producer David Weiner.

The Walking Dead returns Oct. 11. Companion series Fear the Walking Dead recently premiered to a record 13.3 million viewers, including three days of DVR playback, making it the biggest series cable debut ever.

My only annoyance is why are they not telling the kids what is going on? Hey maybe if you tell your daughter that crazy dead people are out there she won't want to go to her boyfriend who is sick or help the woman across the street. Yes let's keep it a secret.

Oh and yes, even though you just witnessed that Calvin dude try and bite your face off and not die despite getting run over multiple times, lets get real close to the principal who is all bloody and stumbling toward you with crazy eyes to see if he is ok and help him.

    Just saying.

I don't know man. I feel like i remember Robert kirkman saying that in this "world" the people aren't aware of zombie canon.

If you had literally never seen or heard of a zombie movie before you might be a little confused with whats going on. She couldn't see the principals wound as he was approaching her. Also, maybe you're thinking/hoping/praying that all this shit is gonna blow over and maybe you'll protect the innocence of your daughter once you make it out to the desert?

I'm ok with everything that has happened so far. Keeping an open mind.

Yeah, at least in the comic world, nobody is aware of what a zombie is. It's pretty much just like our world except George Romero and Night of the Living Dead never existed.

All of this shit is completely unprecedented, so no one knows what to think. Some people will see that randomly dying makes you turn. Other people would think it comes from the bite based on what they've seen until they know differently.

And if you had never heard of zombies and this shit just came about, you'd be hesitant to kill people, especially people you know, until they became an overwhelming threat. You don't know what is going on, and the natural instinct isn't just to randomly start popping off shots at the first thing that looks remotely scary.

Yeah they're supposed to not know what a zombie is, I get that. But her character already experienced the Calvin thing and is aware something is going on (hence why they are hunkering down at home), so at the very least she would know enough to run away and NOT walk toward the guy that's stumbling toward her. And I thought I remember seeing blood wound on him. But whatever

Again, just saying. Should be good. Weird seeing this premise in an environment that isn't already taken over and destroyed (walking dead).

i can meet you in the middle on this. i can understand your argument for being hesitant and not walking forward. but i think the wound was in the guy's back so she wouldn't be able to see it.

i'm just saying that, given the absence of zombie knowledge, you might back away from people that were acting weird, in contrast to the show, but you probably wouldn't just start killing weird people immediately at this point.

Yep that's more what I meant. I wouldn't be smashing skulls in right off the bat either. The only reason she did was because she didn't run away first. I would have been running the opposite direction once the dude didn't respond to my first "hey principal guy, are you OK?"

Also, are they skipping next week because of labor day? In the day and age of on demand and DVR, is that necessary? Boooo

He had a wound on his back that she couldn't see as he shuffled toward her.

Since zombies don't exist in their world or there's no precedent for zombie mythology then the show is (so far) doing a decent job of creating grey area for the main characters. Outside of the junkie son no one else has seen a dead person with fatal wounds get up and walk around (not even the dealer getting hit by the car - Nick shot him but his folks didn't see that).

Is the show implying that the LAPD knows what's going on? The one cop loading up on water and the 2 cops who had kill shots to the eyeball.

was that whole scene with the plane flying overhead a nod to the "airplane episode" that was mentioned to be happening earlier in this thread?

So maybe we can agree that everyone in the main family sucks. Travis is a bitch, the gf sucks, her daughter is totally oblivious, nick sucks and still has that stupid limp, the ex-wife sucks, and the other son is an asshole. I've yet to find a redeeming quality for any of them.

I agree with the entire assessment, except I like Kim Dickens' character Madison. It may be because I saw her naked in SOA. Other than her the whole family can perish next episode and I won't care. I do hold out hope that Travis will slowly transform into a badass because it could be a great storyline and hoping Nick gets clean, but uses his junkie skills of being sneaky to get supplies and weasel out of bad situations.

Yea maybe he could be useful eventually. I'm expecting him to get clean, then as the druggy in a show manages to find drugs and gets addicted again, making him once again useless. His limping around is really annoying me as well.

The whole thing with nobody being like "these are zombies" is annoying to me, but I read somewhere that in this world these people don't have the pop culture of zombies so apparently they have no idea what these things are.

Think about it in a real world perspective. If some shit jumped off and people started acting crazy would your first thought be zombies? Plus think of the timeline for the last few episodes. Its only been 48-72 hours since he was hit by a car, so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt on the limp.

My first thought would probably not be zombies, but we at least know what zombies are and the internet would quickly fill up with videos of dead people getting up and eating people. Real world prospective, we know what zombies are and that you shoot them in the head. Things would certainly get wild quickly like the show is portraying though. People rioting while zombies mill about and eat people is possible, but if I see someone eating someone else I am getting the fuck out of there and stocking up. I've thought about the zombie apocalypse a bit and their lackadaisical attitude is frustrating at times, but I get it, it's a show.
