To be fair though I haven’t really played any JRPGs since I was a kid so I’m not really used to this kinda stuff anymore
its all felt pretty mild to me. i think fortnite era twitch has made me numb to all cringe not associated with larry david.
P sure I won’t see it in this game but boy is it gonna be cool to see omnislash and catastrophe in this series
Been in the Coliseum just leveling up some and getting materia upgraded. Mainly just delaying in beating the game.
what level were you guys to start chapter 14? one friend says he was 28, another says 30. i am 23. i dont know how this has happened. i havent missed anything but aeriths solo fight in the colosseum.
I was probably around 28 when I first started it. I just explored a lot and that leveled me up. There are a couple of tough boss fights in that chapter so you may want to level up some. I've been experimenting with my materia to try and get max potential. Don't forget to talk to the kid to get more summons.
Aerith is actually kind of OP if used and positioned properly unlike in the original where she does next to nothing other than heal/buff/res. Her final 2 weps abilities (other than the very last one) are both ridiculous.
Finished it yesterday and started a second play through. You can really tear through the game pretty fast the second time through. You keep all your stats and Materia. Made it (fairly) quickly through chapter 8. Hard mode is NOT very hard.
Some people aren't going to like the ending, I personally didn't mind it. It leaves room for the developers to take the story in a different direction in the next installments. Imo the end result will be the same, it'll be too much of a backlash if they change that, but I think they're setting the plot up to get there in a different way from the original.
I gotta say, the Train graveyard area is about an hour + too long. Detracts from the story for too long for me and was pretty annoying. Love the game otherwise, but maaaaan it’s just tedious
I finished my hard mode play through last night. It was both challenging and rewarding. I really wish that difficulty was available from the beginning. It would have made the game a lot more fun for me running it from the outset. While I loved the reintroduction of the Materia system, there is definitely a flaw with it. Mainly, no real customization of characters. I found myself trying a boss fight out with whatever Materia on hand and if I failed, I just min/maxed whatever Materia would be the most useful for the fight. Still a great game, though.
I haven't tried hard mode yet. You get to keep everything you have gotten from the previous play through?
Yep. You’ll get to max level (50) fairly early on. Then it’s a matter of leveling up Materia and weapons. Weapon upgrade points come by way of Manuscripts, which you get for beating bosses and doing side quests.
Don't see how that's possible with the current mechanics, hard mode was balanced around starting it at lvl 35+ and is pretty restricting in terms of what you need to use in some of the later chapters. I don't see how you even complete chapter 1 with the no items and no MP regeneration restriction from a fresh account that only has lightning and fire matera.
i like when normal difficulty is a generally pleasant experience without much actual difficulty. it is however very strange to essentially make hard difficulty and new game+ the same thing
A little over 50% through the remake and decided to buy the original on Nintendo switch (never have played any final fantasy games).
Only on chapter 3 but this has vastly exceeded my expectations. The original was my 2nd favorite PS1 game (MGS) and definitely one of the most memorable games ever. This remake is fantastic so far.
Will look into that. Actually bought Digimon Cyber Sleuth Complete Edition on the Switch. Been surprisingly very good.
Finally finished the game. I give it a solid 8/10. I wish they would have gone further into the original story instead of bloating the Midgar section so much - some chapters and tasks just felt tedious and didn't add too much to story. The gameplay and combat were fantastic though and can't wait to play through some of the chapters in hard mode. The boss fights were also a lot of fun too. I bought FF7 remaster during last sale so can't wait to play through the whole game again.
Hated that area in the original game, so I’m glad they made it like 8 times longer this time around. Other than that, really enjoyed most of it. The only other gripe I have is that I wish they would’ve kept the Midgar President’s death the same. Ominous music, trail of blood, and a huge ass sword sticking out of the pres. Loved that scene.
Haven't played it or seen any spoilers or gameplay at all, but where does the remake end? Aren't there more "episodes" or sections coming? Is the story going to be different than the original?
It ends when you leave Midgar in the original. The way it ends makes it seem like they’re not just going to follow the exact storyling from the original.
They would have needed an M rating had the trail of blood been kept, the purple goop and no blood thing was intentional to keep it at a T rating on ESRB
Downloaded as a free game this month. This shit is pretty cool. I only ever played FF7 and this is way more fun
Sitting on my bookshelf since last May but decided to finally play with the PS5 upgrades and think I’m nearly getting to final stretch. A ton of bloat (particularly compared to the original, or maybe I just had a lot more time on my hands in 1997…) and a lot of jrpg cringe imo but the combat system is absolutely tremendous. Kinda excited to finish it and be done but have enjoyed myself throughout.
Decided to pick this game back up and I’m still amazed at how good it is. I have to rank it up there with GoW and HZD. Not as good as those 2 but damn it’s impressive.
