Twitter was probably my favorite social media site before Elon took over. It's been shit for awhile, but I've dealt with it by sticking to the people I follow. But the more I think about it the more I think it would be easy to get the shit I care about somewhere else. I've never really spent time on Reddit, so maybe I'll give that a whirl. Will keep Instagram because of food (and hot girls) and Facebook (which I never use) so I can send receipts to people when they enter the find out stage from yesterday. Have a Tik Tok, but I don't ever use it Edit regarding Twitter:
this is a CFB feed that seems to capture a lot of CFB and adjacent users https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:ipto52pfemju56wnsxkjcab5/feed/aaacsiz7lqekw https://bsky.app/profile/jquinn26.bsky.social my profile and you can check my followers and add as you want. They also have “starter packs” which really helped curate users to follow. I can’t tell how to find and share those, unfortunately.
Never had Twitter or X. I'm an old Boomer who did not take to most social media. TMB and other BBS's is my vice...
I just joined BlueSky and it seems decent. Deactivated Twitter and it felt kind of like a rush of relief. That shit was unhealthy.
I deleted all my tweets and deactivated my account. Last tweet was telling Stephen Miller to fist himself. It was a burner account. Deleted my personal account a long while back.
I have an account but never use it really. Been years and really the only reason the app is on my phone so when people send me things I watch.
Can we get bluesky or threads to embed here? Being that I use this site more than any social media sites and tweets are by far the most shared posts on here, it would definitely help with moving over.
Never had Twitter; nearing a decade of deleting my FB account; removed IG from my phone about a year ago.
Still a very useful resource for sports info and giving sites I like clicks certainly means more than the 1 trillionth of a percent of Elon’s net worth I contribute to by having an account Certainly not gonna support some YouTubers I give a ton of watches to that have come out and kinda cleansing my IG
Lots of tweets posted here and I can’t read/see them without having an account. If they embedded 100% I wouldn’t need an account. I don’t scroll twitter, never have, I just need the app to see the good stuff shared here.
That’s a pretty great feature. I’m guessing it doesn’t auto block new accounts as they’re added though.
I’ve never had an actual Twitter account. Just my Hoss one and never really posted on it outside of trolling. I enjoy reading the tweets people post in threads on here but I’ve never used it for anything other than rustlin’
They still embed for me, and I can get to the actual tweet and replies in a chrome window when opened
not going to be popular opinion but I think it would be good to be intentional and disable twitter embedding on TMB
Nearly 100% of my twitter usage was always reading things linked by you guys here, but I deleted my actual account not long after Musk took over, laid off 80% of the workers and reinstated Trump's account. Reddit has been the best conglomerate I've found.
Deleted my account about a month ago and realized I was too weak to last a few CFB weekends without it so I reactivated it. Pulled the plug for good yesterday.
Between how bad everything I use twitter for is for me (sports, politics), there’s no real reason anymore. Does that mean I’ll actually dump it? Not sure.
Blue sky gets the job done for me. I used threads for a few months, but it sucks for any breaking news event. The main feed consistently elevates days/weeks old posts over new ones. The video tech is super cool, but it just wasn’t workable to me. Blue sky has been solid for the past month or two. Wish it embedded here.
I think the embed for them would be tricky because users can block their posts being shared outside the site. sometimes I will be sharing one in a group text and it gives you a note that says something like 'only logged in user can view posts from this account'
I follow 38 people. MSU beat Detroit sports beat Local newspaper Statewide news couple political people two national breaking news accts Then some randoms like SVP and such for sports This is basically how I've used it since the inception and nothing has changed for me. I dont understand how people follow +1k accts, etc. If someone tweets too much they get unfollowed. I pretty much dont miss a tweet from any of the accts I follow.
I don't think I've posted in over 10 years on the platform but the trending always cracks me up Cardi B Post Malone Hugh Freeze
Deleted it because I mainly followed it for sports and alt-comedy accounts (Comedy bang bang type improv ppl) and all the comedians left. I did start following flat earthers and lizard people conspiracy people for fun though to see how my timeline would change after a month and it was wild. Prob would be a good idea for an article but I am too lazy to write it
Bluesky is a bit of an echo chamber, but that's only because my follow list is about 20% of what I had on Twitter. Don't miss twitter or the daily prageru ads that I'd have to block.
Also - these lists get updated. Added names get blocked automatically (I believe. May be wrong about that.) https://bsky.app/profile/alancerny.bsky.social/post/3lacsotdckn2z TBD if it actually works like that or not
I think I'll be done with Twitter by the end of this month. It would be good for the OP to post all the different category links at the beginning of this thread.
It got to the point to where I felt gross opening it. Same thing happened to me with Facebook many years ago. I don't think it's a meaningful boycott or anything...just sort of had enough
Same on FB. I've been on there since college but ready to deactivate. Already saved all the photos I want from there. It sucks how addictive it is; I keep opening the tab and closing it out of habit
Sometimes that works for me, sometimes when opened in new window it would force a twitter login to view anything.
