Re: Official Fulham Thread -- user ths has been voted out a with rosy cheeks. What will those brits think of next? Briggs Selected For Finals Tuesday 6th July 2010 The Club can confirm that Fulham Academy graduate Matthew Briggs has been selected by England for the forthcoming UEFA U19 European Championship Finals in Normandy, France. England U19s Head Coach Noel Blake selected Briggs as part of his 18-man squad for the Finals. Briggs and England will be looking to go one stage further than last year, when they were beaten in the Final by tournaments hosts, Ukraine. Matthew will team up with his international colleagues in Warwick on Monday ahead of their first Group A match against Austria in Flers next Sunday (18 July). England qualified for the Finals after finishing on top of their group in two separate rounds, starting last October with First Round victories over Finland, Slovenia and Slovakia and then finally in the Elite Round in May, when Blake's side saw off competition from Ukraine, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Republic Of Ireland to seal a place in the last eight of this tournament for the third successive season. Re: Official Fulham Stands for America Thread Dikgacoi Planning To Not Be Worthless This Year Kagisho Dikgacoi was back in action for Fulham on Thursday night after returning from South Africa and the all-action midfielder is now hoping to win a permanent place in the heart of Fulham's midfield. “This was my first game back having been away during the World Cup, and I have to say it was a good work out for me. I came on in the second half, and it’s all about gradually working your way back. "Halmstad were a good side, and they made us work very hard. They didn't give us a lot of time on the ball, and I think they should be given a lot of credit. "That said, we perhaps did enough to secure a win, but at the end of the day, these games are all about building up our fitness and making sure we are in good shape. “Pre-season is always difficult, but it’s the time when you prepare for the season ahead. I’m looking forward to a new season, and hopefully I can play my part. “Last year was my first in England and of course, for Fulham and it was a good one for me – I learned a lot. “The Club have many top midfielders and I think in the games that I played in I did well, but there is more to come. There are three more pre-season games before the season starts and that is plenty of time to show what I can do." Dikgacoi enjoyed some memorable moments at the 2010 World Cup Finals with hosts South Africa and the experience is certainly something the midfielder will cherish forever, as he looks ahead to another exciting season at the Cottage. “As one of six players to be away with our respective countries at the World Cup, we are a little bit behind the others, but we’ll catch up as we’re definitely being put through our paces. This is a very fit group of players. “Obviously being part of the World Cup was an incredible experience for me, what with it being held in my homeland South Africa. I think as a country and a continent we did the world of football proud. “Every player that is lucky enough to play in such a big tournament feels proud and I am no different. It is the highlight of my career. “But the World Cup is over now, and the main focus is Fulham and doing all I can for my club. As I have said, last season was a good one for me, but I want to push on further and be part of another successful year. “This is a great club, with a great group of players and I feel that we can achieve a lot together. We’ll do all we can to make sure that happens." Read more: http://www.fulhamfc.com/Club/News/NewsArticles/2010/July/DikgacoiHalmsted.aspx#ixzz0uYA4o6ok
