i remember when they asked me and the fellas to stop singing sea shanties during a screening of the lighthouse
I remember growing up there was one showing a year of The Wizard of Oz. Appointment TV as I think it came out around Christmas time. /nostalgia
Opening battle scene and colosseum fight scenes were great. Mescal doesn't deserve the hate because "he wasn't as good as crow" he played a 28 year old guy who's a decent fighter, not an older important general and noble. He played his part well. Denzel was peak. I thought it was a good movie and an 8/10 Wasn't expecting to see The Hound in the movie. He's been eating a lot of fucking chickens since the end of GoT
I liked My Old Ass, figured out the “twist” if you want to call it that pretty early. enjoyed Saturday Night more. I’m a casual SNL fan I don’t catch it every week or anything but will watch it every now and then but the movie was frenetic and fun.
this should be required viewing for all these doofus writers and execs that feel like they need 140 minutes to tell a story
Denzel + naval Colosseum battle is really all you need from Gladiator II. It was super enjoyable, I thought Mescal was perfectly fine. Nielsen was by far the weak link imo
Really enjoyed Wicked, I thought Ariana Grande struggled a bit but was great with physical comedy, glad to see OG Galinda and Elfie make cameos. Theater experience was one of the worst I’ve ever had though. Packed cinema of people with small kids not realizing it’s not a fast-paced kids movie and is a long movie with a lot of slow emotional bits, and let their kids run wild in the theater. Multiple people on their phones, guy next got a hot dog with extra relish and then shoved an entire bag of popcorn in his mouth as loudly at possible after arriving 20 minutes late and just “scooting by” me. Like, that’s fine, it’s just opening weekend of a movie I’ve been waiting for for 20 years, glad you all came out acting like absolute cunts.
just an ultimate sad-sack noir with a 68 minute run time in the public domain, so its readily available
Packed theaters suck for almost all movies. Were only two seats open tonight for Gladiator 2, took a pass and will see it this week sometime.
Agree, some movies are an event that bring a fun spectacle. But most I just want to watch in an empty-ish theater. I usually see things on Sunday morning or sneak away during a weekday afternoon/morning
I was in an imax for gladiator II Friday and had some guy drunkenly fall from one row to another on top of people watching the movie. Quite a scene. IMAX was awesome for the movie but had me wishing for the movie on a couch
Thats not good when you see a tentpole movie, in imax no less and the takeaway is that you'd rather be at home.
Also had a full theater for Gladiator. There was a well timed "fuck yea" from about 20 people, including my wife, when one character gets his hand suddenly chopped off in a fight scene.
That is our go to. Half the city’s at church, the other half is sleeping off Saturday night. Also always choose a spot like this, I don’t want to be around anyone else.
I watched The Waterboy again for the 1st time in about 15 years and LMAO. Forgot how funny that movie was.
gladiator 2 was good. lot going on and i'm not sure it totally worked but it was fun. disagree with the early reviews roasting mescal, thought he was good. hard to try to be the lead in a movie sequel to an all time character and all time great actor.
Anyone looking for a Christmas gift for themselves or someone that loves good movies, Criterion Collection is releasing a 40 film box set for 50% off.
They weren’t live action though. I watched the OG when it came on as a child and never even thought that it would ever be made into a live action film. If it’s done similar to the original Pacific Rim then it can be a great time. Hopefully it’s not like every Transformer movie.
I think this would be a really good entry point for anyone interested in getting into the physical media space too obviously $400 is pretty steep, but at $10 a film youre coming out ahead given that individually each film is at least $20 even under the 50% off deals that occur throughout the year. plus it takes up way less shelf space this way. heres whats included: https://www.criterion.com/boxsets/7646-cc40 not getting it myself since i already have at least 30 of them, but its still a really cool idea and execution
I have quite a few Criterion discs. Mostly foreign but I don’t have even one in any format of these 40 films.
