Watched Primal Fear tonight thanks to Netflix recs. Richard Gere is awesome. Edward Norton makes an awesome debut. 8/10, would recommend.
First time and it may be recency bias but it’s one of my favorite reads ever. Read it in 3 nights and stayed up late to do so
Watching HEAT for the first time in 15 years. It still holds up pretty well. But as far as Mann's films go I believe Manhunter and Collateral are his best.
There's probably not much you haven't seen before, but that's because of how influential it has been.
One thing that always sticks out to me about Heat is it has the best sound mixing for guns of any movie I’ve seen.
After seeing a runtime of 2 hours 50 min after watching Heat-Celtics, I opted against it. Watched Seinfeld reruns instead, t'was a good choice.
love people posting in the movie discussion thread saying "didn't watch the movie, I did something else instead." thanks for posting!
I think people on this board only hold Heat in such regard, or discuss it at all, is because it's obsessed over on The Ringer. I think outside of that sphere, it is a largely forgotten movie. I watched it for the first time a month ago and it's fine, nothing special. Probably twice as long as it should have been and badly needed to be edited. I can only attribute the outsized amount of discussion it gets to The Ringer. Leon The Professional is vastly superior and far less bloated. Also far better use of GOAT Portman!
I see The Pale Blue Eye had a $72 million budget and I'm guessing most of that simply went to get Bale and Duvall on board
I think this is valid, but you can't ignore how much it gets cribbed. The acting and dialogue is incredible though, but it is far too long and I think it isn't as profound as people want it to be.
I love heat and never visit The Ringer. I think Heat's probably a top 10 movie for me....crime noir movies are my favorite genre (NCFOM favorite movie) Heat's a LA movie through and through. And the LA underworld is a super cool environment to immerse yourself in, especially when seen through the actions of Pacino/De Niro/Kilmer/etc
it made 200 million at the box office in 1995. it has al pacino, de niro, and kilmer. it is a michael mann movie. people loved it before 2016
While true, people have only been discussing it ad nauseum in like the past 3 years. You see it everywhere now. Also I don't believe that number even puts it in the top 50 grossing movies of the 90s
I just got around to watching it recently and it’s great. I remember watching it in bits and pieces but never just straight through. I actually bought it but now it’s on netflix. It’s incredible how realistic they made everything.
NCFOM There Will Be Blood The Terminator Apocalypse Now The Big Lebowski The Matrix Heat The Revenant The Dark Knight Halloween Blade Runner Alien The Prestige Blood Simple Sicario Wind River Drive Hell or High Water 3:10 to Yuma 28 Days Later my kinda movies
I've never watched Heat and felt like it was too long. I can't really think of any scenes that felt unnecessary either.
