Billy Bob Thornton before he became famous: “Christ All-Mighty, it’s like I’m here playing cards with my brother’s kids.” Don’t think that was in the script and was ad-libbed.
I get all of these references now. Gracias. Finished it tonight -- really fucking good. Such a perfect 90s LA vibe. De Niro is incredible. The restaurant scene with De Niro and Pacino was gold -- so many great lines. What's normal? Barbeques and ballgames? That's an interesting point. What are you, a monk? The downtown LA shootout was cinematic absurdity at its finest. This is a perfect description. Damn he was good. Could watch him for hours roughing up folks and spouting one-liners. For me, it lived up to the hype, for me. Nug gives it a 9/10. ...In her ex-husband's dead-tech, post-modernistic, bullshit house if you want to. But you do not get to watch my fucking television set!
While I’m not surprised one bit that it lived up to the hype, I absolutely love that Nug is already all in on his Heat fandom.
A big reason why I think Heat endures is that, as previously mentioned, it has three of the best action sequences ever. Sadly, movies are moving further away from that with the CGI. None of these gif scenes are memorable. I rewatched MI: Fallout earlier today and that movie has two perfect set pieces immediately following the opening credits: sky diving scene and bathroom fight. We need more of that
Watched Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon today. What an unbelievable movie. Incredible fight choreography, great story. Really enjoying watching some great practical effect action dramas.
Watched two movies today. The lady was picking and somehow chose Leon and Heat like she’s been reading this thread. Leon is still really weird to me. It’s a good movie with great performances. And when I kinda believe I can navigate the sexualization part… there’s the actual real life of Besson and it all kind of crumbles. Heat is a genre peak. It’s a masterclass.
had to google sounds like the movie will be a prequel i haven’t read much of the novel but it picks up where Chris left of being wounded etc
Idk if political is the right word. It's the bank story line. The bank is feeding off people. "Being poor is like a disease" but his boys aren't going to know it. The white man took the land from the Native Americans... the bank is taking it from the white man. It's also why they don't have any qualms about stealing from the bank. That movie rules
Saw The Eight Mountains over the weekend. Really great, and worth finding in the theater if you can to see the Italian Alps and the scenery on the big screen — just a gorgeous setting.
I watched Out of the Furnace last night. It's got Casey Affleck in it which sucks. But Woody Harrelson is incredible as some backwoods Jersey lunatic meth dealer
Watched the Dennis Villeneuve Dune again last night. I think it's a really fantastic science fiction film, I love Villeneuve's style. I think the washed out brutalist look is appropriate for the type of world. Rebecca Ferguson's performance really stands out. She portrays the complexity of Lady Jessica so well.
“Reality” on HBO Max with Sydney Sweeney was perfectly fine, perhaps even interesting. Short and sweet too.
I was just telling The Blackfish about Rebecca Ferguson being a babe last week after rewatching Fallout
I think when the sequel comes out I'll read the book the week before, then watch the first movie, then go immediately to the theater.
Thankfully Dan Villanova left out the part where Baron Harkonnen asks for the Paul lookalike sex slave to be brought to his chambers for the night
