Not sure how much saban actually being on the sideline matters other than in game decision making which is kind of a crapshoot anyway

Fair comment. I guess if it were me and the media literally reminded the nation of this fact every time Sabes plays an assistant....and then I am the first assistant and the media didn’t give me the credit I’d be chagrined

There's got to be something wrong the the testing and reporting. Ole Miss and UF have multiple out after weekend games, yet they weren't positive on the Thursday test. Or they were and teams didn't report it. Testing daily is the only way to stop these outbreaks if you aren't gonna put them in bubbles IMO.

No we haven't. We had a pre-season outbreak and now we've had positive tests after superspreader Saban came to Oxford.

I know. What I'm saying is I seriously doubt they got infected Saturday and tested positive already. Not when supposedly none of our players have tested positive yet after the game. That's why I'm saying the testing every 3 days is missing cases or the reporting is bad.

Did you mean that Ole Miss and Florida have had multiple out after *this* weekend's games? Your phrasing made it sound like you were saying we had multiple people out from practice who ended up passing Thursday tests and playing.

Either way, our issue is significantly fewer than what Florida has reported. Across the entire student body there were four new cases Monday and two on Tuesday. The rumor is that we had one player test positive and two are being quarantined due to close contact. I think more than likely, their positives and Saban's are unrelated to the game.

Yea after the the game, not before and played anyways.
I was trying to say that they (all schools) are most likely missing cases.
Not that there's a guaranteed way to catch them all before a game.

Don’t be fooled by what Ole Miss did to that Alabama defense. Georgia is built differently. Alabama is more equipped to keep Georgia contained on offense and there’s enough big plays out of Jaylen Waddle in the slot, and too much balance on offense for the Tide to be shut down. I liked the Tide before Nick Saban’s COVID positive test. With Saban out, we’re just getting more value.

Take Alabama and lay the points even presumably without Coach Nick Saban (COVID-19). The Crimson Tide will walk in knowing that they can beat Georgia. The Bulldogs will walk in hoping that they can beat Alabama. I don't care how good Georgia's defense is, Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, his wide receivers and running back Najee Harris are good enough to put 30 points up on the board. Is Georgia's offense willing and able to play that style of football? Nah.

Kind of agree with him there but then I started thinking about how you'd do that and I'm not sure how you could make that work.

Wow. I just assumed coaches could coach from an isolated "coach's box". That's pretty wild he can't even come to the stadium.

No common sense. Just get there a little early. Go straight to the box and leave after everyone clears. There's no chance of any viral spread.

I don't think that would help Bama's ability to win the game. I just think it's silly a coach can't be in an isolated area if they feel ok.

How is that different than coaching from home if you set up a contactless path to a box? Walk up isolated stairs, down a hall, and thru a door.

There's a reason all the experts tell you to isolate and quarantine. The risk of infecting someone by doing what you're suggesting isn't zero. Coaching a football game is a really dumb reason to possibly expose people to a deadly virus.

Of course you should isolate. And I get it, the story would be "saban's job is more important than your job" because that's what we do.

I do think the risk of spread is zero by isolating an area for him to go to a box, and the decision is based on optics.

His job isn't that important to people who aren't terminally sports brained and it's not zero when you're in public. Aerosolized molecules that contain the virus stay in the air for minutes. It can stay on surfaces. Anyone who has to clean or use a common area that he did would be possibly exposed.

Let Saban put on a real mask (not his little screen). Isolate the path at 10am. He hangs out till game time with some pbj's, coke, and little Debbie's. Leave an hour after the game. Clean the area 8 hours later with a mask on.

I think it's dumb, but more importantly, hope Saban has a quick recovery.

Have him wear a hazmat suit and walk in by himself to a private suite 5 hours before the game. Have him leave after the stadium is empty.

Or just have him stay home bc its really not that big of a deal. Its a football game.

    Not sure on players.

Saban was positive on Wednesday. As long as he doesn’t have symptoms, If he tests negative three days in a row, on the third day he can be declared able to participate based on the assumption it was a false positive.

All our testing is handled at REC Labs in Bessemer.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I kinda wish he'd come out and say "I tested negative a couple times but damn this is a football game and these are kids out there, I'm not risking their safety. It's not worth it. I'm going to stay home for a week and then we'll worry about football." Be the adult and put everyone's safety over football. Wear your masks.
