Major spoilers of what aired Sunday in HBO Everything about this looks godly The footage contains a 2:30 minute sequence followed by a montage of scenes and snippets.
Happy to read that. That first trailer was the tits but I had a feeling it might be some flapjacks held up by a push-up bra. Hope I'm wrong.
Seeing a “character”/storyline that began as entirely anti-America develop into big budget American productions is peak what in the actual fuck. We may as well have Mann reshoot (Akira Kurosawa’s) Dreams.
Looks like most of the Godzilla subreddit love it for what it is An unabashedly awesome clash of Kaiju with fantastic action scenes Ghidorah lives up to his name If you're looking for human plot development, this is not your movie - it seems the mixed reviews are due to this fact, looking for inter-intra personal human plot development
Have five tickets for Sunday matinee If I want human character development, I'll watch Game of Thr- uhhhhhhh, The Wire
Rocketman tomorrow night but I’m finding time sometime this weekend or I’ll be going it alone during work next week.
I hate going during opening days or weekends. Can't stand the talking and cheering yada yada of the packed theaters and the idiots in their phones etc. Trying my luck tonight, IMAX at 8 with the hopes of the glorious action scenes and sound effects drowning out the idiots.
Honestly, I usually find the Thursday night opening shows to be the best. At least the really late ones, 10 PM or later ( the only exception was X3: The Last Stand in Tampa.....so many nerds dressed up in costumes ).
Just finished in IMAX My thoughts which are probably all over the place. Spoilers below and sorry for grammar spelling etc Spoiler Act 1, or the beginning of the movie was phenomenal for me. Good pace, visually stunning. Didn't dive too much into the human aspect of things and focused more on Godzilla and what was transpiring. It was a fun lead up to the initial Ghidorah appearance. Of which was heart racing. Reminiscent to my reaction when Fury Road really took off. From the moment they truly showed the size of Ghidorah, the collective breath of the theater was being held. He is fucking massive, gorgeous, and scary in stature. The first fight that took place between Godzilla and Ghidorah was exhilarating. You could hear the theater catch its breath when it finished. They truly did Godzilla, Ghidorah and Co. justice. For the most part, there was non stop action with short cuts to human interactions etc, and straight back to action. Rodan's following appearance and action scene was easily the best in the movie. He had 5 minutes of pure destruction on his hands. All in all, the monster have an impressive amount of character and detail to them - even to the point when Ghidorah had 3 separate selfs between his 3 heads, each acting on their own accords. I think everyone will be pleased with the sheer power and destruction that each monster is capable of. Mothra's scenes were extremely enjoyable and held true to old Godzillas. The mixing was fantastic for the most part, with a few wonky parts. But you'll definitely get your heart's content with explosions and differentiate of sounds between each fight and monster. The characters themselves were generic, but they played their part. It wasn't as bad as 2014. But, like 2014, there were times where monsters are clashing or things are exploding in glorious colors only to cut away and force the viewer to watch from afar in the cockpit of whatever vehicle the characters are in or completely gloss over the action. I wish they used less close up shots and more actions shots from afar that would capture everything. I enjoyed the ending. Burning Godzilla was as great as could be. But I can definitely see the ending be polarizing. You do have to reallyyyy suspend your belief with some of the things that happen to our characters. Honestly there were times that were a bit much or where things were overly unrealistic. The soundtrack was fantastic. You had your call back to the Godzilla theme when he would make an appearance etc. The humor was definitely over the top and killed scenes. Ken really stood out for me. The others were forgettable. Ghidorah was top tier and I am glad they stayed true to him not being from Earth. The reference to Infant Island was unexpected and welcoming.
Overall, I loved it and you'll definitely find nostalgia to Godzillas of the past Big Hollywood budget movie that was made for fans and didn't let down
Also immediate credit scenes are fun and important so pay attention and there's a short 30 sec post credit scene that sets things up for KvG
