I can be wrong here. Would love to hear the counter. I just don’t get how it’s a monopoly differently than other major sports.
have been anticipating that to be the case would be funny if a liv event is scheduled at the same time in 2023
It’s not. And in fact less so. As the judge noted and others noted, LIV has 14 events next year, he’s signed 48 players, 5/10 PIP and are turning away top 50 players. Worst monopoly ever. the real fight will come with LIV v OWGR. Because that’s what’s gonna fuck the players when they have to join their buddy Reed in Singapore every other week scraping together points.
I just don’t see how the owgr lawsuit could be favorable for LIV. It’s an industry wide standard that all the bodies agree to.
Tend to agree. But I think it’s more compelling when the OWGR board is made up of the majors and your competitors. So from an anti competition standpoint, there’s more there. But you’re also right in that right now LIV doesn’t meet their standards, so they’d have to argue that the standards themselves are there to prevent competition
It’s an easy fix. You’d have to change the name, but go to 18 holes and get rid of the shotgun start.
I know you are just stating the LIV side for discussion, but owgr didn’t change their criteria to exclude LIV, which if that were the case it would be very problematic. So it’s hard for them to make the argument that it’s anticompetitive.
I have three ways around this but two really they are basically the same thing. The third is scummy. You create a fake account and book a twosome at that time. Then you book that time as a solo with real account. Then go back and cancel the fake twosome. the other way is to book a twosome and wait till a twosome or solo books as well. Then you just cancel one of your spots. If they don’t require a reservation credit card you can always just book as a 2-4some and just show up as a solo and play dumb.
3 creek doesn't take singles (JH) - had a guy offer to pay for drinks for the entire round if he could join us as we were a 3 top. Still not sure if this guy actually paid the golf course anything - but free bar tab.
Quasi similar discussion, how do y’all’s clubs handle 5 somes? I have a friend that annoys me. He’s quick to say yes but when he’s a no he just doesn’t respond. He went a few days without responding so I filled our group Saturday. Our online system defaults to 5 when booking and i see 5 from time to time. The club is a stickler for pace of play so people know not to fart around. We are playing Saturday afternoon and the tee sheet is basically empty so I don’t think it will be an issue. I’ve only been a member for a year and I try to lay low and not ask for things for the most part.
Yea the private courses in VB are the way to go. So much of the public golf is shitty and/or just beat up. Bayville, Princess Anne, Bay Creek across the bridge all solid but private. VA Beach National is an old TPC course and is pretty decent/affordable.
pretty much this. Default is 4. I’ve seen 5s. Played as a 6 last weekend but we were keeping up with the group ahead of us. so I would say it’s play as a 4 but they don’t care about a 5 until you start holding people up. But we also don’t have tee times on the weekend until the afternoon
Bay Creek is awesome and if you're a member somewhere else your pro can call and get you on. They're pretty relaxed about it. VB National is the best of the public in the area imo. Wide open and a lot of fun.
Their argument will be that exceptions have been made in the past around tournament format. Per the OWGR guidelines, the Hero World Challenge shouldn’t get point consideration, but exceptions have been made there. That lawsuit is going to be a very interesting one.
Davis Love III on NLU was pretty interesting if the whole legal fight between PGA and LIV interests you.
Looked at VB National but that was also no singles. red wing lake was an improvement. Ok muni. Solid layout. If it was in premium condition it would be great. Probably play it again while I’m here. got around in 2:30
I’m sure Scottie will say that was completely unintentional as he just looked frustrated but I’m all for the pettiness between Tour/LIV guys
problem with venue shopping the most liberal district in america is you end up with a judge who equivocates Majors to Dust-collecting Trophies of a Bygone Era
Back in my youth I almost took a gig at Shooting Star. Would have had to deal with skiing in the winter and I didn't want to.
Anthony Kim is the most overrated golfer of all time Tony Finau is on an almost identical career trajectory
pretty sure Anthony Kim finished top 5 at Masters while Finau was competing on Golf Channel's Big Break
I’m comparing them at the same point in their golf careers. Not Tony Finau at 32 and Anthony Kim at 37. Anthony Kim never won anything of note, and his major record is also not noteworthy compared to the youngsters of today. Sure, youngsters back then weren’t expected to compete in majors like they are today. But that only emphasizes the point that he’s nothing special compared to this age of golfers. His success is what Tony Finau has been able to achieve, which isn’t all that noteworthy.
Kim had 3 top 10s in 15 major starts. Finau had 4 in his first 10, and 10 in 26. And he never got anywhere near the same praise. Kim was young, brash, and marketable. But his resume never lived up to his legend. There are handfuls of guys on Tour nowadays that accomplished more early in their careers than he did. Guys like Will Zalatoris and Cam Young already have better resumes, yet if we never heard from them again I highly doubt they would receive the same narrative Kim does. His legend is weird.
