just imagine all the possibilities for years to come...this is the best era of golf ever tiger Phil dj Spieth Jt Rory Day rose Garcia another dozen or so guys that wouldn’t surprise any of us being in the hunt on a weekend: koepka woodland Pieters Noren reed Matsuyama Fowler Louie berger Adam Scott
Indeed. It will speed up play and that's a positive. They missed the opportunity to fix the worst rule in golf imo.
The 14 club rule? I agree; always hate the debate of whether to put my chipper in the bag on a given day.
I do but being penalized by having to play out of someone's divot that they may or may not have filled with sand is asinine
There are already like a dozen other instances where you don’t have to play it as it lies anyway. If it has been raining (lift, clean, place), if there is an ant hill, or a sprinkler head, if it hasn’t quite fully recovered from repairs, if you end up with a tweener yardage, etc. Seems like a ball ending up in a man made hole should grant some relief.
I think it is a bit premature but there's also this https://apnews.com/amp/001391abf57a438593f5a7de29dc247b?__twitter_impression=true
Kind of a local rule whereby if I’m in between clubs I can move my ball up to 10 yards (no closer to the hole of course!) to get the right number. Still waiting on an official USGA update on that one.
It’s similar to the ball retriever rule where if you are able to reach and retrieve your ball from the water with a standard issue ball retriever, it’s a free drop with no penalty (no closer to the hole of course!)
we have a local rule where you can toss the ball once a round instead of hitting it any update on that one?
My personal local rule (it travels with me) is that I can kick the shit outta my ball if I don’t like the lie.
There are people that argue that Spieth, JT, Dustin compare to Tiger. Go to a tournament where both play and see who gets followed.
As exciting as those guys are, they really aren't in the same stratosphere, compared to Tiger. Regardless of how he plays
For those that have been to the Master's before, any tips or things I should know that they wouldn't tell me otherwise in the materials they send?
Go the merchandise shop first thing when you get there. Walk the course in the morning. Follow some guys you want to see but make sure you cover the entire course. Head over and watch some of the par 3 in the afternoon. Eat a lot of egg salad sandwiches and drink copious $3 beers. I went to the Wednesday round in 2013 so I'm guessing parking might not be the same but back then it wasn't difficult to park close.
I like parking in the back entrance near 16 and basically avoiding Washington Road. There is a gift shop back there as well. You are going to wait in a long line at the gift shop no matter what, but its better to go first thing and just deal with lugging it around. You will not be able to bring a cell phone in but you can bring a camera. You won't really be able to bring in a bag of any kind. I would advise walking the course or at least most of it. There are some cool spots on the back like #12 bleachers where you can see 11 green, Some bleachers left of #15 where you can see #16 where you can stop and take a breather. I would probably try to get out on the par 3 course just to see it but would spend more time on the actual course. Food is amazing, sandwiches range from 1.50 to 3-4 bucks. Beers I think are 5 now but still a good deal. Get a peach ice cream sandwich. *If you are prioritizing I would walk 1 and 2 and skip 3-4-5-6. You can catch 6 green over near 16. I would definitely walk the whole back 9 and spend the most time on Amen corner 11 green through 16 green. Definitely go stand behind the tee on 11 and 18 and see what they are looking at. On 10 you can go stand where Bubba hit is shot from, its unbelievable. On 13 you can get near where Phil hit the ball through the trees. The range is also amazing and worth spending a few minutes at.
Also dont let a long line scare you off from the merchandise stores. Everything in that place is run to perfection and you will be amazed at how quickly the line advances. If you are buying quite a few items you can check them afterwards so you don’t have to lug them around.
