Random discussion that came up with a group of friends (from AL/GA) yesterday about the Masters. Do you think it's "cool" to wear Masters gear when you've never been (get a friend to buy some stuff for you) or do you see it along the same lines as "sidewalk CFB Fans" that have never been to their team's game but just rock car stickers and T-shirts with national championship shit on them? I personally don't give a shit if someone has been there or not and wants to wear the merch. But I couldn't/won't do it. I would kinda feel silly if someone came up and asked me about it and all I had was "no my friend went and got it for me." But bein in that fratzy atmosphere in the southeast you get used to seeing 50% of the people you know wearing Masters shit in college and not having been to Augusta. A lot more rare outside of the southeast, I think I probably see 1-2 masters shirts a year.
If there is one thing I've learned from this board it's that southern guys are very concerned with what other guys are wearing.
We've always really only recognized the full season standings. There really is no point to the "seasons" Yahoo has. It's not like they reset starts or players are in different groups for the different seasons.
I won Wednesday tickets a few years ago but couldn't go. Sold my tix to some friends and they brought me back all sorts of shit but I can't bring myself to wear it/put it on my bag (towels). Just don't feel right.
I went to the masters in 98 wasn't a golfer . Now a golfer have masters paraphernalia. Still no white belt though ..
Just found out I am going to the Masters on Monday then going back for Saturday and Sunday. I guess it will be nice to buy all my merchandise Monday before they run out of everything good.
Tbh, I would rather not go on Sunday again. Much rather sit at home and get to see the golf. /firstworldproblems
I work nearly every weekend and holiday, but come Masters time I get to just show up and walk in with PGA card. If I have friends going a certain day I usually try to go with them.
My wife's grandmother has had badges since she was born. We get a day to use them and it seems to always fall on the weekend. I doubt her grandmother is alive this time next year so our yearly trip is coming to an end
You get recognition at end of season from fish Kinda weird the winter segment is 11 weeks, spring 12 and summer 13.
In all the years I've gone (been every day but Sunday) my breakdow goes like this: Best day to buy stuff: Monday (obviously) Best spectator day: Tuesday Best golf day: Friday
Just booked trip to Birkdale for Thursday Round. Excited to finally check out the Open. Family had badges my whole life. Sunday is top notch if the year is right (day Ive been most since others would rather watch on TV) but Saturday is absolute best atmosphere. Monday is best day for apparel and eating (though DCP on Sunday might be better for that now). Wednesday is best for 1st Timer + full flavor.
Big fan of waking up and having live coverage on the weekend as opposed to Morning Drive/Golf Central. Golf Channel needs to bump up their weekend coverage every week
Got a question on match play. What do these guys do for practice on final holes when they win with a few to go? Like has John Rahm played 17 & 18 yet?
Rahm hasn't been to 18 yet, DJ hasn't been to 17 or 18. Someone asked Phil the other day if he would go scout the last 3 holes because none of his pool play matches went that far and he just laughed, so I don't think they're too concerned with seeing it other than in practice rounds
Aside from the wayward drive on 3 I think it was, DJ is unreal right now. Pretty pumped to see him at the Shell next weekend
I am in a golf tour league where you pick one golfer per week and only once per the season. Whatever money money that golfer makes is what you make. You also have the chance to double down for $5, 5 separate times. I have been cut when using matsuyama, Thomas and this week I chose Day. Needless to say I am sucking. And as a side bet me and 3 other buddies who live and work close by have a bet with whoever has worst score has to buy lunch every Thursday for the other 3. I m gonna go broke.
Rahm doesnt look 22 at all. And please Johnny Miller pump the breaks on Rahm being a top 5 player in the world right now.
Based on play right now, obviously aside from DJ, who are the 4 you'd have ahead of him? *Not saying I agree with Johnny but I can see why he'd be in the conversation
Rory Spieth Day Matsuayma Fowler Rose I could go on....Rahm is a very good player no doubt, but there is a reason he's ranked 25th.
Over the last month or teo, he's top 5 in the world. But that's still a very small sample size. Kid does have massive upside though.
He's also 4th in the FedEx Cup standings, ahead of all of the guys you named except for Hideki (JT is third)
