Just finished 72 at Arcadia Bluffs and South. Holy shit that was cold, particularly the bluffs on Friday afternoon/night but broke 90 there yesterday so had my revenge. I thought the South was very cool and relatively painless for high handicappers (1 tree on the entire course, no heather, fairway bunkers relatively shallow) but some of the most brutal and fast green complexes I've played so would assume it would be fun for better players too. Really fun and at $85 off-peak, an absolute steal.
There is a dollar figure, but it’s meaningless for those that get selected. Their overlap in membership with Cypress Point and NGLA is crazy. Way more golf focused than Augusta, which is a bit more “Titans of Industry” focused.
My buddy who plays all these places says Chicago Golf Club is up there as tough memberships to get as well. Said he worked harder to get on there than he did for Augusta, but a lot of that is just being from the south.
Chicago GC only has 125 members, which is super low compared to most of these other places. Makes it that much harder to get in, or even find someone else who has.
My caddie at Bandon last summer normally spent his time between Chicago GC and LACC but was out in Oregon during the renovation and to try something new. He said he’d try to find a member to have me out when I’m in either city, looking forward to eventually emailing him and getting ignored because he over-promised
Yeah I didn’t mean you don’t pay more so you can’t buy in and have to be asked to join and of a certain level the money is irrelevant.
I had the volume down for the majority of it yesterday because of kids napping but afterwards I heard Zinger reference this. I had no idea what he was talking about. Did they go into any details on it?
supposedly it wasn't food poisoning but both teams were just ravaged by stomach issues, someone told TC that a player even shit his bed
Not much. They’re not sure if it was food poisoning or a bug that was being spread but some guys were going to the ER to get IVs. I think Andy Johnson may have retweeted something that said guys’ bathrooms were getting destroyed because it was a both ends situation for some
Spieth on the NLU pod today. A little bit into it, but Soly is a little cringey with stating his fandom of JS. But overall a good interview so far
Masterclass Rory at Kiawah on Golf Channel right now He needs the fro and saggy pants again to win majors again
actually thought Soly was about as controlled as a fanboy could be. Really enjoy hearing Jordan talk about the game. He's just so open about his process.
I know a lot of you guys are in the southeast, anybody going to the PGA next week? We'll be there Thurs-Sat. I caddied out there right after college in 07-08, still remember everything about it. It'll be fun to see the course shine on a national stage again.
Finally got fit and ordered new sticks last week. Hopefully they'll be here in 4-5 weeks. Went with JPX 921 forged and hardstepped KBS $ shafts. I hit Callaway x-forged CB (I really liked them but the face was a smidge smaller than what I'm used to) and Apex pros, new Titleist, Taylormade P770s and P-7MCs, Mizuno MP-20s and JPX 921 Forged. Data showed it was down to the JPX and TM 770s. I just don't like the feel and sound of the TM irons for whatever reason. This will be my 3rd set of Mizunos. My current set is 10+ years old.
His two PGA Champ wins were absolute beatdowns of the field on tough courses. He makes it look Tiger-easy sometimes. EDIT: confused his Congressional US Open win with a PGA. Nonetheless...
Hit more or less that same array and also ended up with the JPX. I went mixed set with Hot Metal Pro in 4-6. So far so good. Got similar performance out of a couple (I think my runner up was Apex) but feel was unmatched I hope you get them in 4-5, but brace yourself for 7-8.
I’ve got tix for Thursday, spending the rest of the weekend in Charleston. Can’t wait, hopefully weather holds up
Ive been keeping an eye on it, I think it’ll be fine. I caddied there for 2 years, and on Cassique/River the 6 years before that. I can’t tell you how many times it looked like it would rain for sure, dark clouds over John’s Island, only for it to break up before it got to Kiawah.
Summer rates for florida residents finally announced for streamsong. Heading there at the end of the month to play black in the morning then red in the afternoon.
Did they do anything to adjust lofts between the hot metal pro 6i and forged 7i? The pros are a couple degrees stronger than the forged counterpart so I’d think the gap would be a little bigger than you’d want
Or Pine Valley....Or Cypress. Sign me up for trying that though, wonder what the logistics are for the day
Sunrise at Pine Valley is 5:45am. Say they play in 3 hours and immediately jump a flight which takes 3 hours, they could tee off at Augusta around noon. Play in 3 hours again, jump a 5 hour flight to Monterey and gain 3 hours for the time change, they could maybe tee off at 5pm. Something seems fishy about this “report”, but I guess when you have that kind of fuck you money you don’t care a ton about the experience at each club or playing your best
Would be infinitely more enjoyable to just play 36 holes at each over 3 consecutive days but I mean I'd still do it their way if offered.
