I think it was Andy on the Shotgun Start saying he hopes they get creative in course setup for week 2. Move tee boxes around, etc. I’d hope so too...
Are you guys really complaining about watching live golf competitions before they're even back?! Jesus, get ahold of yourselves.
It's summer time now and shit is opening back up. Wont be wanting to sit on my ass all wknd watching golf like I wouldve loved to do in the spring. So, yes, absolutely will bitch!
I'd think they would have to at least a little bit otherwise players will be landing in divots constantly by the end of the second week.
I'm getting back into the game and have a set of 25 year old Ping Zings and no fairway woods or drivers, so I'm in need of an upgrade and new clubs. I want to try different clubs and get something that's right for me instead of just buying something right away. Anyone have any recs for a beginner (or someone who hasn't played a round in 10 years) or suggestions for how to go about trying new clubs - do stores or clubs loan clubs for trials?
A lot of courses will let you hit almost any of their used clubs. And most will probably let you play a round with them. They’re trying to sell them, after all.
Sub70 is an online maker I’m really interested in. You can pay a deposit fee that you get back for them to ship you their clubs.
So on Monday I am getting fitted for new irons at club champion. Now is your time to talk me out of it Ty Webb and @1 and to go somewhere else.
No argument from me. Other than Firethorn in Lincoln I've never really heard recomendations on who the best fitters are with a large selection in the area. Where's Club Champion?
I've been shooting low 40s on 9 and high 80s low 90s playing 18. Big improvement for me but it comes from playing all the time. Hadn't played in 9 days and started off quad/quad/tripple. Settled down and parred two of last 3 on the front. Fucking golf.
Just played 18 up at Eagle Eye near Lansing. Front 9 is some of the most enjoyable golf I've ever played. Back is fine but still fun. If you guys are ever in Michigan (particularly for an MSU game, it's about 4 miles from Spartan Stadium) I'd highly recommend it.
I have a friend on staff and a few of us have been following him around the last few years. I was looking at finding somewhere for us to play when we come in the fall. Good to know. Any other courses you would recommend?
I'm going to be in naples for a week at the end of the month. Any recommendations for public courses?
The more difficult on campus course, Akers West, is terrific. East is fun too but very muni. I'm not sure how packed it is around game weekends but I've never had an issue getting on. Outside of the campus course and Eagle Eye (which has associated courses too) there's not a ton right near campus. If you're willing to drive 30-60 mins then your options get way better.
I bought a PuttOut mat and pressure trainer thing at the beginning of quarantine and have really enjoyed the combo. My mat is on a concrete floor so it rolls at a pretty good pace. My only complaint is that it’s a little bit short, if you’ve got the pressure trainer set up the longest putt you can hit is maybe 7 feet. The markings on the mat have really helped me with a more consistent set up
Good for you on getting fitted. I’ve got no firsthand knowledge of any fitters in Omaha. Club Champions got a pretty damn good rep nationally, don’t they?
Word of advice on club champion, watch out for crazy shaft upgrades. They have a lot of tech and you can see the numbers. Overall they do a great job. I just have had a few people I give lessons to fit into things like oban iron shafts that jack the price way up.
I've been playing a ton of golf, but I am just getting worse. Really probably need to take some time off. I am scoring about the same, but I've been getting a nasty slice lately. Doing everything wrong. Not fun
Golf partner of mine got fitted into an epic flash triple diamond with a fujikura atmos tour spec 7 black shaft. I easily hit that club 30+ yards farther than my driver. I was shocked to see that the shaft alone cost $300. I think the driver all-in was close to $800. Blew my mind.
New ping irons last week. New vokeys this morning. All shipped to my office and out of the wife’s sight.
I was talking to a friend last weekend about getting new clubs. He has a 4 year old who hasn’t really ever paid any attention to his clubs before. My friend bought a new set of callaway irons a few weeks ago and said that his son randomly pulled one of the bag in front of his wife and said “mom look how clean this is. It must be new”. My friend said he almost lost his mind.
I played my first full round in about two years yesterday. I had four birdies, each followed by a double or worse. It was quite the round.
This is funny for multiple reasons. First, that Club Champion would fit him into a Tour level driver at a cool $800. Second that the tour level head is hotter
I played every single day while studying for the bar and got down to an 8 or 9. I was outstandingly lucky yesterday. It’s a really short course and I was hitting my driver and long irons really well.
Question with the fitting, anyone know how aggressive they’ll be at the end with regards to purchasing. Like will they make me feel like a dick for wanting to decide? Or will they be all, well if you don’t act know you’ll lose out on our “special” discount?
I'm sure that probably depends on the fitter/salesman themselves. There wasn't really a timely discount in place for the clubs or the shafts so your last question wasn't an issue. He gave me the quote for the clubs and shafts (something nuts like $5000+ total ) and I just gave him a vague response and immediately used the spec sheet they gave me to buy similar shafts at MUCH cheaper prices on EBay etc, he definitely wasn't pushy or a dick about the fact I didn't immediately tell him to order up the clubs
He’s got a 3 index. Swing speed is around 120. I don’t understand the head comment. Fitting was at PGA Superstore in Scottsdale fwiw.
I shot an 86 on Saturday for 18. I’ve been playing like every other day Had a lot of rain here this week and played league night last night after 4 days off and had 3 quads and shot a 51, my worst 9 holes in I can’t remember how long. Almost threw my putter and wedge in the creek permanently
Club champion is getting paid well for their fitting whether you buy the clubs from them or not. They actually build the clubs at club champion, whereas if you get fit from me at the golf club I call and order them from Titleist, TM or whoever. That is why club champion often pairs you with random shafts because they don't care about the stock offerings. They buy heads directly from manufactures and shafts directly from shaft manufacturers and have them all in a warehouse.
