Demoed warmed up with a set when I went in for a driver fitting when they came out and loved them. I have the g10s now which are ancient and my irons are the last thing in my bag that’s not up to date. Definitely longer, lofts are about 1.5-2 degrees stronger but they felt so good. Easy to look at for a gi iron. I have a friend that loves his set. Just regripped my old set last summer and was trying to get another year or so out of them but had some extra cash that I keep for myself and that’s all I really cared about buying. worst part is the 2-3 week wait for them to ship
You could make the case that club champion has better quality control compared to the large manufacturers especially when you are changing lie angle and lofts. I also think that half of the people going to club champion are prepared to drop serious money and are expecting to get fit into something exotic that is "perfect for them". You then have the average guy go and all of sudden there is a 100 dollar upcharge per iron shaft for some crazy shit he doesn't need.
I feel like I’m more the latter. I’m kind of going in with a top number I’m willing to spend and hope I’m way under it. But I’m going to sell some old sets i have and an Evnroll putter and Scotty I’m not using to help that a little.
There are two dick's near me... One has a super knowledgeable golf department. The other the guys are completely clueless. Next time I buy something I may go to the shitty one and convince them to let me use the launch monitor for like an hour.
Just booked a tee time for Edgewood in South Lake Tahoe for next month. Played it once in 2017 and it was a pure as a course could be.
Shot an 88 today (44/44) and it was miserably hot and humid. Almost holed out on 13 today from 153 out, left an 8 iron 8” short
There are a lot of trade in deals out there righteous now. Can get an extra 50% value. In thinking of getting the Sim Max irons. Has anyone hit them?
Four of us just scheudled Bandon from 12-5 to 12-9. Praying that they are open and no Covid relapse. Can't wait.
Played my first full 18 of the year Friday. Had played 9 and 8 (before storms came) in May for first rounds of the year. Shot 71. Hitting some really bad shots but wedge game and putting were in tip top shape Friday.
I got fitted 2 weeks ago and ended up going with them after trying 6 different sets. They were really forgiving but still retained more feel than anything else I tried in that tier
Went for fitting today and my swing was an absolute mess at the start. My face angle was between -7 and -10 but after all that time off I don’t know why I would expect any different. About halfway thru got into a groove, my swing speed was down a few mph( which I was expecting for being out of shape) but my ball speed was still close to normal. Haven’t pulled the trigger just yet but feel like a new driver is incoming.
Which would you choose for a round of even par? A stress free 18 pars or 6 birdies with a double and 4 bogeys?
+2.7 Which is lower than it really should be. Got a 63 sitting on there that's bringing the whole thing down by a full stroke or more. 63 was a career low for me. Was a perfect storm of a day on the golf course. Went unconcious for a 5 hole stretch on the front 9.
I can relate. 63 is my career low as well. I holed probably 3-4 30+’ and missed 3-4 within 12’ that day. Super weird round.
How does a +2.7 play his first round of the year in June? Do you live in Antarctica and the only course is 5000 yards with no undulation in the greens?
Got a blended set up MP20’s earlier this year and they feel much better than the JPX 900 forged I had
Lie angle was the main thing at +3. Length and loft were kept the same and I got Nippon Modus 105x shafts. I have no idea what that means other than my swing speed was on the borderline of stiff/xstiff so we went with the 105x shaft.
Well couple things. 1) COVID-19 kept me off the course in march and april due to the kids being home and I live in the midwest. 2) it was my first FULL round. Had walked 9 and 8 (storm rolled in before I could tee of on 9) in May. So that's how a +2.7 plays his first full round of golf in June.
Just got home from my fitting. It was incredibly eye opening. I found out my current irons are actually too long, even from standard which I was told they were standard length...but not too big of a deal. First big issue was I hit the range to warm up before. Shouldn’t have, was a little gassed at the end of the fitting. found my best swing weight was D5. Was fit four the KBS tour V steel shaft and the Cobra SZ irons. It decreased my club head speed by 2 mph on avg, increases my ball speed by 10 mph on avg on my actual decent swings. We were trying to increase decrease my spin and got it down into I think the 4700 range with a six iron down form the like 5500 with my current one. only problem is total cost to me would be 1100 for 6-pw from them versus 615 if say I bought from tgw. Am I good enough to notice the difference?
I've been rewatching the different Strapped series by the NLU guys. I really, really hope they plan on making a ton more. It's such entertaining content from multiple angles. Big Randy and Neil play the absolute perfect roles. Then you have "narc" DJ Pie who reports back to the C-Suite. The whole thing is perfect and so repeatable.
The next one is Peoria Il I think. The did a contest for the city that raised the most donations for Jax Beach junior program won.
That's a good idea. Wish I would've known that. Could have tried to get a ground swell of support for Omaha going.
He was trying to decrease the spin on your 6 iron from 5500 to 4700? I’m by no means a qualified fitter but from what I’ve read that is the exact opposite logic for spin rates; some people have referred to multiplying your iron by 1000 for ideal spin rates, putting a 6i somewhere around 6000. Obviously, most players with any handicap are not going to spin it at an ideal rate like that, but the logic of him trying to bring down your 6i spin away from the ideal rate is confusing. What was your carry distance before/after? I’m guessing he was just trying to get you some extra distance? Trackman article with Tour averages for reference https://blog.trackmangolf.com/trackman-average-tour-stats/ Edit to add: good enough doesn’t matter, properly fit clubs will help. Also, I bought my most recent irons from Discount Dan’s in Oregon and saved a couple hundred bucks. Quickly looking at that iron set on TGW it looks like they’d also be making some swing weight adjustments but that price quote still seems high
The strapped stuff is really good and organic. Kinda has an Anthony Bourdain feel to it. I've enjoyed them all. Maryland was possibly my favorite. New Orleans was great too.
