Played there last summer and it was an awesome course. Gorgeous with a fun par 3 set up right there and great facilities. I got a good chuckle because the pro shop sells "Trump Turnberry" stuff along with standard "Turnberry" stuff. I asked them about it and the answer was exactly what you would expect, that the opinions on Trump are divisive so they sell both so people who don't like Trump can still get something if they want it. Spoiler
I have fubo and when you scroll through channels and hover over the golf channel the background graphic is a picture of DT at Turnberry. We’re probably gonna let him by TGC at some point during this four year term.
It was not sought out. It was part of a larger group trip around most of Scotland. Courses played were: Kingsbarns, North Berwick, New Course (St Andrews), Old Course (St Andrews), Royal Dornoch, Struie, Castle Stuart (now Cabot Highlands), Turnberry, Prestwick, and Royal Troon.
There's a great 100+ year old muni here (city-owned, privately managed) with an almost-as-old observatory (city-owned, jointly operated by the city and university down the street) sitting at the top of the hill right in the middle of the property, right between the 17th green and 18 tee box. The access road also cuts right through the landing zone for drives from 15 tee. The university hosts evening events at the observatory once a week with an 8 PM start, and there have recently been issues with arriving observatory traffic interfering with play trying to finish rounds before sunset. Things started to bubble over last week, when someone posted a rather tame sign along the main road criticizing the golf course, which resulted in the city essentially telling the observatory operator (who acknowledged knowing who posted the sign) to get it's attendees in line or it wouldn't host any events any more. Today, golfers found a pipe bomb on the course and police had to detonate it in place. What a wonderful country we have here.
To say I did a double take when I saw these at the grocery store today is an understatement. Did not know these were a thing
Meh, my joke didn't land. I was commenting on the wording indicating we were supporting the disorder and not the people with it or awareness towards it
Article said that he actually detonated one on July 3 and then they found this one yesterday. Not sure I would play a course where a pipe bomb was detonated within the last week and no arrests had been made yet. https://www.desmoinesregister.com/s...pipe-bomb-arrest-michael-valento/84566692007/ "An investigation alleges Valento detonated one of the pipe bombs at the golf course on University Avenue on July 3. A second pipe bomb-style improvised explosive device was discovered by golfers on July 10. That one had not been detonated, the release said. The Des Moines Police Department Bomb Squad determined it to be a live device and rendered it safe"
Munson: Well you know what the Bible says about not forgiving people right? Amish dude: No, what? Munson: ...it's against it
I don't believe the first one made the news at all, nothing I can find. The way that's written i'm not sure the course even knew what occurred on 7/3 until yesterday.
I’ve been so busy with traveling, work, and moving that I just played my first round at my club since Memorial Day. This was the first day they opened after aerating for the week. Greens were punchy/sandy. I’m not sure if this makes me a good or bad putter but I had one of my best putting days. Made 3 birdies on the day with one being from about 50 feet that plinko’d its way in the hole. Shot 76
I’ve had some great putting days on sandy greens. All touch out the window, just hit everything hard.
So looks like I might actually be able to get out to RTJ Dothan tomorrow afternoon. Looks like one of the courses is closed but everything else has plenty of availability it looks like. Any suggestions? stric006
driver 7 wood is my default approach into most par fives these days picked up Elyte 10.5 , 3 w, and 7w for $850 Got tired of my kid taking my clubs so instead of buying him clubs got new one. In his defense he is outgrowing his starter set. loving the new one woods (new to me, demo set that look brand new) hit driver 3 wood on one of the par fives today, rest were driver 7 wood
shot 89 with 7 pars and a birdiie I was drawn to water every time it appeared today on the course including my one and only slice still happy with the way I played and if you take out those 4-5 shots I too could’ve broken 80, ha
Lab is going through Costco now? https://www.costco.com/l.a.b.-golf-df3-stock-putter-rh.product.4000385570.html
I played The Glen Club in Chicago today and played pretty well but the rough and greens are ready for the Korn Ferry Tour event. And I am not ready for the Korn Ferry Tour
12 over through 14. Tasting breaking 90 for the first time. 9 over through the last 4. Just an unbelievable meltdown. Finished with a 93. Debating whether I should jump in front of a train or off a building.
it usually takes one or two totally epic choke jobs before the breakthrough finally happens. Looks like you got a good one of them out of your system. Keep knocking on the door
Met up with a buddy to catch him on the back 9 this morning. Altogether good round, including hitting it to 2’ on a 190 yard par 3. But lost two drives badly, one left and one right, that both led to doubles. Ended up with a 40.
Played incredible for 18 holes today through the rain and even some hail on hole 7. Decided to play an E9 and played like absolute shit. Know your limits bert, should’ve called it after 18.
Been pretty shitty the last week with like 7 inches of rain in the last 48 hrs. Took the opportunity to head to my local golf shop and traded off my 3 hybrid that I cannot hit for the life of me. Hit a few different replacement options along with my my current 3w, 5w, 4i and 5i. Was looking to bridge the gap between my 5w and 4 iron when I got my hybrid. The guy worked with me for quite awhile(like 2.5 hrs) and ended up messing with my lofts on my 3w, 5w, and set me up with a G440 7w with 3w shaft and Im pulling out my 4i. My gapping is great now in that range anf that 7w is so freaking easy to hit. Now I just need a break in the weather to get a round in.
say what you want about Rory but I think the biggest feather in his cap relative to his peers is when they show the "World Rankings 10 years ago" and "World Rankings 5 years ago" graphics, he is basically the only one that is still relevant and playing at a tippy top level* *reserving the right to edit this if Dustin Johnson wins the 5th major AKA LIV Indianapolis later this summer
